High Comedy At SI.com

June 26th, 2017

These are tough times for the print industry. Anyone working in it sleeps with one eye open waiting for that dreaded e-mail, “report to your editor immediately to be informed you are now unemployed.”

It doesn’t matter if one works for the smallest of daily papers, or a formerly august national publication like Sports Illustrated.

The weekly magazine has been laying off in droves over the past couple of years and it is beginning to show in its football coverage.

For example, the outfit recently had its NFL writers pick a non-quarterback, top-10-players list for every NFL team. The usual suspects were chosen for the Bucs and Joe will have more on that later. Outside the top 10 for each team were players who received votes but not enough to make the cut for their respective team. For Tampa Bay, kicker Nick Folk had as many votes (one) as cornerback Brett Grimes.

Yeah, that’s right! A guy who isn’t even on the team (yet?) had as many votes as arguably the best player on the Bucs defense. Talk about a facepalm!

The last time Joe laughed that hard was when Joe received a text from a Bucs bigshot tearing Joe apart for a story Joe never wrote.

Joe suspects someone at SI.com is going to be the latest recipient of MikoRage.

    “Fake news”!!!
And a kicker? C’mon! Unless that kicker is named Vinatieri, no kicker should ever be atop a top 10 list. Shameful, downright shameful!

  2. Fsuking Says:

It’s not a top 10 best list, it’s a ten most important. Huge difference! Now I can’t argue that Brett Grimes isn’t a 10 most important player but whoever our kicker is certainly becomes one of the 10, perhaps 5 most important non-Jameis guys around

When do we start training camp?????

2017 is all about Offense in Tampa Bay!!!

    Go Bucs & Rays!!!

  4. HFXBUC Says:

so…. if Tom Jones is an idiot for saying the exact same thing you just wrote in this article….
C’mon, dude. There is no comparison whatsoever.–Joe

I do not disagree with your point but it does beg a question. Do we have a kicker yet. Who will be lining up?

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

@Fsuking- “top-10-players list for every NFL team”, “non-QB”

Not saying that kickers aren’t important but, in order for a kicker to be valuable, their teammates have to put them in a position to kick. That’s why I would rate other positions ahead of K in a top 10 list.

  7. EP Says:

so it means 2 of 5 thought each was at least the 10th on their list. big deal. I think Joe’s should give it a shot and see how they stack up. 10 most important…let it rip Joe’s

  8. QQQ Says:

We would have been in the playoffs last year with a competent kicker, no?

  9. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

Qqq as bad as our kicking was last year I don’t remember Roberto losing any games for us…somehow
