“We Like Our Guys”

April 3rd, 2017

Bucs GM weighs in.

This will be sort of like a cold shower for those Bucs fans pool-jumping with excitement over the thought of 32-year old running back Adrian Peterson, coming off a knee injury, joining the Bucs.

Last week at Phoenix during the NFL owners meetings, a day before winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter seemed to enjoy hearing how Peterson was working out with America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht did a stand-up with Kim Jones of NFL Network. It was first broadcast Friday night on “Total Access.”

Jones specifically asked Licht about Peterson and the Bucs. Licht acknowledged Peterson was one of the better players in recent NFL history and said he’s always looking to upgrade his team. The following words from Licht, however, did not sound like a guy desperate enough to turn to Peterson.

“Right now we do like our guys and we have the draft coming up,” Licht said. “We will look anywhere where we can add pieces that will be good for the Bucs.”

If anything, it seems Licht all but promised the Bucs will select a running back during the draft. That’s not exactly earth-shattering news, either.

In fact, in the interview, Licht didn’t even mention Peterson’s name. Not once. Peterson is a free agent, so there is no tampering issue there, if Licht talked about him.

As Joe stated last week, all the time Joe has spent around NFL movers and shakers and with Bucs shotcallers the past five week, Joe has not heard one credible word that the Bucs have Peterson on their radar.

Sure, it could happen, but at best, Joe would suggest it’s a 15 percent chance Peterson wears pewter and red.

That is, unless Peterson buys a Jameis jersey online.

It’s a bit like the backup QB situation. Koetter said he likes what he has at the moment.

and basically we all disagree with him!

If Jason Licht says he is happy with the RBs situation at the moment, he is surely right and we will see what happen at the draft or later.

If I’m not wrong season starts in 157 days so there is still plenty of time to adapt. Last year we were all happy with Doug Martin being re signed, lots of talk about drafting Aguayo and so on, and look now.

Jason Licht is a very good, we should all trust him “Come to the Licht side of Life” !

  3. BKNYfootballhead Says:

Would Licht be tampering speaking of Peterson? I thought you can speak of free agents after FA begins, just not about players still on another team’s roster. Help me out here.

  4. BKNYfootballhead Says:

Also, Peterson is visiting the Patriots today.

  5. ARGH_M8E Says:

    He’ll sign with them too^

  6. ARGH_M8E Says:

Watch the rich get richer smdh, a 1 to 2 year deal would’ve been a no-brainer at the right price, ain’t nobody gonna overpay for a old A$$ playa, hence why he’s peeping the Pats (Best shot at a ring). Whatever, Draft it is… NO WORRIES, but to be honest… if the Pats sign him, I will be super pissed! Ya think?! Damn Pats, will those 2 fckrs go retire already – nobody likes u, Kraft must have sold his soul to the DEVIL!!!!!!! Yup I live in New England, sick of this BS!!!

    Monday’s.

  7. tdtb2015 Says:

yeah Patriots will sign AP. We will get Cook.

    Super Bowl LII
    Patriots vs. Bucs

    Lets get ready to rumble!!!!

    We got this!!!!

  8. Bucnay Says:

I think they said they liked the group of receivers they had last year
We know how that turned out

    Preach Jason Licht..

  10. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

-and we have the draft conning up

  11. gotbbucs Says:

So, with that said, can we put this Adrian Peterson nonsense to bed for a while, like some of us suggested we do weeks ago.
Nobody in their right mind is going to sign him before the draft.

  12. BurgDweller Says:

He’ll go to the Patriots and get a ring.

  13. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

I don’t see anywhere he even implied we would be taking a runningback in the draft. He simply said he will look at every way to improve the team. From the question asked of him he was simply dispelling the foregone conclusion AP was coming to the Bucs just because he worked out with Fameis. If good ol Lichtning boy deems AP will greatly improve us then he’ll get an offer.

  14. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I didn’t see anywhere he said we wouldn’t either.

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Peterson may go to the Patriots, and they will become the first undefeated team since the 72 Dolphins.
LOL, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the best keep getting better.

  16. Jim Says:

No problem, we got America’s RB, Pro Bowler Doug Martin…

  17. Dreambig Says:

ESPN has a good artical today on “Buyer Beware” for any teams who sign Peterson. They make some good points on Peterson’s pass blocking limitations even in his peak, they also talk about his decline in availability during the last few years. Another stat: Only 10 RBs since the 1970s have produced 1,000 yard seasons at Petersons age. Draft one of the young studs in the first or second round and set yourself up for years to come or failing that, given how good Peterson has been, maybe he has one more in him and is worth taking a one year chance. This might be a moot point because if he still worth anything the Pats will sign him today.

  18. gotbbucs Says:

The Patriots will bring anyone in for a workout. This is just their way of sending a message to Blount to sign for what they want him for, or they’re trying to get some stupid team on the fence to sign him before draft night if they show interest. My guess, Blount will now sign with the Patriots a couple days before the draft.

Does anyone really believe that Belichick is dumb enough to sign this guy for what Peterson wants three weeks before one of the richest running back drafts of this century? The closer it gets to the season, the cheaper Peterson will be to sign.

  19. USMC-Buc Says:

After the draft, and only if the don’t get D. Cook or another guy they want to give the ball to 15-20 times a game.

  20. DB55 Says:

Can you imagine the competition in the RB room with:

    AD
    Cook
    Martin
    Mixon
    Rodgers
    Simms

    That what I’m hoping for.

  21. bucs_365 Says:

The Adrian Peterson drumbeating is become this year’s Johnny Football mancrush on JBF. So annoying… Can we stop? There’s no news here until someone signs AP, and indications are, it won’t be the Bucs. Give it a rest.

  22. unbelievable Says:

I’m pretty sure the only way AP comes here is if we don’t take any RBs in the draft, AND Doug Martin gets cut.

  23. LongSeason Says:

Yeah. Pats will sign AP and we will sign Charlie Day so we can say “It’s Always Sunny in Tampa Bay.” Danny Devito is our new center on our “Taxi” squad.

I do have a bridge to sell you across the Grand Canyon.

If I were Jason Licht, I would not be talking AP if I were interested because playing coy could keep AP’s price down if he doesn’t sign elsewhere. Could also be Licht just isn’t interested.

  24. skipper Says:

Licht likes our guys? Koetter doesn’t, he wants play makers.

  25. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LOL DB55 maybe they can trade Jameis for Elliot and and Mike Evans for Melvin Gordon too! Are you out of your mind??? SMH!
