Time To Finish The Job

April 27th, 2017

Yes, Tampa Bay added monstrous, crazy-talented and versatile tight end O.J. Howard tonight in the first-round of the NFL Draft.

Adding that kind of juice literally changed the balance of the roster, and now it’s time to double down.

The Bucs offense is pretty darn loaded, assuming guard J.R. Sweezy can play football again.

But the Bucs are still one ankle turn from the receivers crapwagon they landed in the last two seasons. It’s a passing league, dammit, and the Bucs have America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. Stock that cupboard.

Joe is so fired up. There is no reason to play games again with Donteea Dye, Freddie Martino (from the velvet-lined lounge of the Vero Beach Ramada Inn), Bernard Reedy, Josh Huff and the rest of the CFL-ready gang currently wearing pewter and red.

No Mas!

Enough!

The Bucs should jump into this second round and not screw around. Take the best available receiver. Get your guy. Maybe that’s Zay Jones from Eastern Carolina, or Chris Godwin from Penn State, and then go see if Vincent Jackson is willing to battle in training camp.

Make it happen, Jason Licht. Make this offense lethal — and deep.

Starting to think Doug Martin stays.

  2. Tampa Tony Says:

WR, CB and RB needs are apparent

  3. NJBucsFan Says:

Where is NOS? I’ve looked on every story….I can’t find him anywhere

  4. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Would not be opposed to this one bit.

    O.J. in round 1.

Godwin/Jones/Samuel in round 2. Unless Mixon is there, the. We absoultely have to take him.

    Hunt/Conner/Perine/Hill in round 3.

BPA on Defense/Oline for the rest of the draft.

  5. Broy34 Says:

Tampa. Enough dude. Most negative dude eve

Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter on O.J. Howard: “That’s a nice late-night present we just got.” General manager Jason Licht said he was the one player they wouldn’t trade down from 19 if he was still there.

  6. JimmyJack Says:

We really need another playmaker on defense. what’s with the wide reciever lunacy?

  7. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

Trade up in the second round to get Cook if he is still there

  8. buccfan305 Says:

Hard Knocks is gonna be FIRE!!!!! is it September yet!!!

    GO BUCS !!!

  9. JimmyJack Says:

There’s gotta be somebody late they like for WR. WR depth can be addressed later. backups can be drafted later since we currently have backups set to start for us.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

This is what I’ve been saying this off season Joe. Draft heavy O. Load this wagon up with weapons and heavy firepower. You’ve got the QB so load his gun.

This ain’t Brad Johnson and the dominate D anymore. We have a quarterback now. Better load those cannon’s.

  11. Eric Says:

    time to go defense…..

  12. NJBucsFan Says:

Can we please get off of Cook? He’s overrated by most of you because he went to FSU.

3 years there and 3 surgeries. Similar stats to Ameer Abdullah coming out of college and fumbled.

If he went to another school…say UCLA, Notre Dame, Texas, or West Virginia would anyone know his name or pound the table for him?

Jason Licht will make the best pick for the team not continue the streak of drafting Seminoles.

  13. DallasBuc Says:

    Make Mixon a Buc

  14. Buc1987 Says:

“If he went to another school…say UCLA, Notre Dame, Texas, or West Virginia would anyone know his name or pound the table for him?”

NJ…YES they would cause he’s rated pretty damn high on draft boards and we happen to need a RB.

  15. BucFan90 Says:

BFST now wouldn’t that be something

    #DreamTeam

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Wonder if Jaso Lichts gamelan has now changed since he wasn’t planning on TE(assuming)

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

    Absolutely Joe! Spot on
We draft a talented youg reciever, bring back Vincent Jackson.
I also have some faith in Derrel Walker. Hes not Evans, D Jackson, or V Jackson.
But I think he’ll beat out the Reedys, Marinos, Huffs, etc .
It will be the best recieving corp in team history.

Im warming up to Doug Martin returning- on a “Show me” contract.
He has skill, he just lays down on “non Contract” years.
Make the lil thief earn his money- and he’ll run with purpose again.
But if he wont sign a restructured Contract, then shake him loose-
And draft one of these young talents

  18. DallasBuc Says:

What are the chances Cook is still on the board after I get back from a late cocktail lunch on Saturday?

  19. NJBucsFan Says:

    Mixon > Cook

  20. NJBucsFan Says:

1987 youre delirious thinking that. Every person pounding the table for Cook in the first round is doing so ONLY because he went to FSU

  21. Mojiska Says:

Im hoping for wr, safety, rb in that order unless mixon is available.

  22. RawBucFan Says:

Save WR/DE for 4th & 5th Rd. Go get CB Chidobe Awuzie in 2nd & RB D’onta Foreman in 3rd. OJ Howard dropping to 19 was a sign of great things to come because his value far exceeds where he was drafted. Thank goodness for the over valued QB market.

  23. Pickgrin Says:

Zay Jones or Chris Godwin in the 2nd. Hunt or Perine in the 3rd. Defense after that.

Unless either Cook or Mixon happened to be sitting there at 50 in which case I would take the premier RB without hesitation.

  24. Bucfan951 Says:

I have a feeling mixon will be a buc

  25. Bucsalltheway Says:

No more Molly Doug Martin..if Doug can play like he did before the brinksmanship truck payout this team could be extremely scary score at will type team…I’m still pissed mccaffery landed with the panthers

  26. Issic Haggins Says:

Listen Peeps !!! I Tried to let the Nation know that if avail Howard would without questions would be the pick , so hate to be boring but clearly I TOLD YOU SO !!! All your posts and more posts but listen to those who know , Great Pick Up for this Team ………….. If Cook Falls a bit in the second I would go get him and Sims / Martin would be open for any trade to help me get Cook or a Safety!!!!

    BTW / B Baker is a Stud !!!

  27. Tampa Tony Says:

    @broy

My post had zero negativity just my list of wants

  28. Bucsalltheway Says:

    Brinks*

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Howard removed the need for WR since he can play both. I prefer safety now, then RB in 3rd and DE in 4th.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Safeties seem to be a premium in this draft.

  31. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

The Bucs are in a terrific position for Mixon. Great chance Cook and even Kamara go off the board before him. Landing Howard and Mixon would be a dream scenario in my book.

  32. Trubucfan22 Says:

I get it. But i dont totally agree. Im not a big college football guy or know much about who is left that is any good. But if there is a quality safety availabke in the second, we should look ling and hard at upgrading that position on our roster. There are also a bunch of o lineman that fell out of the first that we should keep an eye on. Back up WRs can be had all over the place in this draft. No need to force it in the second round. Continue to make value picks. BPA is still the way to go.

I agree we should add more depth at WR, but right now that is not a need. I am interested in derel walker as a #4 or 5.

    Evans
    Jackson
    Hump
    Walker
    Murphy? Vjax? Martino?

Im ok with the options we already have at this point. But i wont lie, adding a second round talent at WR would make me happy. I just dont think it is as important as Joe does.

  33. Gencoimports Says:

I would love to get another WR, but I think it’s. ore important to address the defensive line and secondary while we have the picks to do it.

  34. Trubucfan22 Says:

Cook was the 4th highest RB on Mayocks board, and that doesnt even include Mixon (who is obviously better) so make that the 5th best RB.. Bucs/FSU fans have been overrating him since day 1. He wasn’t a first round pick for a reason. Even though the FSU homers claimed he was better than mccaffery and the best RB in the class. They just couldnt see past the spear in his pants. He should have always been considered to be a day 2 talent. I dont even get into college ball too much, but watching his tape i knew he wasnt a first round talent.

  35. ShutTheBucUp Says:

We got a guy who’s competitive nature has been questioned. Hell fit right in.

  36. LocalJoker Says:

I think it’s going to be a safety. Obi, Budda, or Justin Evans. After what just happened don’t say they won’t be there.

  37. NJBucFan Says:

    @Trubucfan22

Budda Baker, Marcus Williams, Obi Melifonwu, Josh Jones are all highly rated safety prospects that could be available when we are on the clock in the 2nd round.

Marcus Williams would be my first choice, he’s that deep centerfield ballhawk we need to allow Tandy, Wilcox or Conte to jump the underneath/over the middle routes and help stop the run.

  38. Viejo_Sombrero19 Says:

    Juju Smith Shuster

  39. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Lifey again is going to make her prediction: I was right about Howard/TE pick..

We are going to get a Safety next…

  40. R.O. Says:

Can only pick 1 player at a time… Jesus!!

  41. NFLNut Says:

    I AM STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I will say that if we get Cook or JOE MIXON, we could have the scariest, most talented, most dynamic and flat-out BEST group of 5 skill players in the entire NFL.

Mike Evans and D-Jax on the outside with OJ and Brate on the line and either Cook or Mixon in the backfield … NO DEFENSE COULD MATCH UP WITH THAT … that would be sick!!!!!

  42. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Life, if we do I hope it’s Baker.

  43. Guzzie Says:

Honestly it doesn’t matter who runs the ball next year, Evans DJax Brate and OJ on the field the whole game, wait till the 3rd and get Foreman Hunt Perine or Hill, getting a stud like Curtis Samuel would be my dream pick in the 2nd, otherwise get a stud safety, no defense is putting 8 men in the box versus our 2 TE offense, any RB is gonna have lanes for days

  44. Guzzie Says:

Unless Cook or Mixon is available at 50, unlikely though, plenty of quality WR and RBs available late

  45. Guzzie Says:

Even Dougie would have success running with the weapons we have now, and I want Doug gone

  46. Lunchbox Says:

Life-great call!!! Howard was 2nd on my wish list (Davis 1st). I have a feeling Cook will be gone AND Mixon. IF SO, I really hope we could get Jordan Willis DE (Kansas State). Then we could go RB (Perine, Mack, Hunt). I WOULDNT argue with Smith-Schuster, Godwin or Samuel at WR in Rd 2

  47. alamba78 Says:

As much as WR seems like a good pick for the Bucs, you can’t draft above your true needs just because you’re scared one of your starters are going to get hurt. Come on man, draft for your actual need at this point in time. That is a S and DE first, THEN RB or WR depending on who’s falling. More than WR, I’d be scared if #3 goes down. Who do we have? I wouldn’t be shocked if we get a veteran QB before the season starts. This team is only as good as our QB’s health.

We’re comfortable with our WRs, anything extra in the draft is a luxury AFTER you go get some pass rush and a Safety that’ll make heads roll. I would like a RT as well, but I can live with letting that come after we address S, DE, WR, RB. We don’t have a RB that can take it to the house, unless Martin stays and plays his butt off – but I can live with 4+ YPC from anyone in our stable.

And what’s with people dumping on Martin? There are players in the league that have done worse. He needs a 2nd chance to get his ish straight and play up to his potential. We have a blocking TE and hopefully a consistent OL this year, so let’s see what he does. If he doesn’t pull an amazing season, then he’s gone.

  48. NFLNut Says:

I had Howard and Jamal Adams as the two best and safest players in the draft … and Howard as a higher ceiling player than Adams so I am 100% thrilled with the pick.

Now, add either Cook, Kamara or Mixon in the 2nd round and we will have the most dynamic and dangerous offensive 5 in the entire NFL with Evans/Jackson/Howard/Brate/RB … CRAZY SCARY!

  49. LifeOfABucFan Says:

BuccaEric..Budda Baker would be my choice too!! I’ll also beat the drum for Obi and he’s a Manchester U fanatic! So I am sure the Glasers love that!

  50. Doctor Stroud Says:

I agree that WR is a need because if Desean Jackson goes down for any reason, that would be disastrous. There will likely be high quality RBs in the third round. That being said, the Bucs might also consider secondary help. With all due respect to Miko’s training skills, Brent Grimes going down to injury would hurt, too. This will be a tough pick.

  51. NC Bucs Fan Says:

As an ECU graduate, it is East Carolina – NOT eastern – But yes, Zay Jones would be great.

  52. Casual Observer Says:

I think Lunchbox has it right. DE, then WR, then RB. Lots of talent – fast guys out there.

  53. Mo_Downs Says:

Does anyone else think it’s totally unfair for the Packers to add Joe Mixon to their roster..??

    Yeah, OK..

OJ is OK but Mixon is on the cover of Madden 19.

    Green Bay…???

    Oh, Brother..!!

  54. Lord Cornelius Says:

I think Light will stick to his board and go BPA at DE/CB/S/RB/WR/DT

I think best value may be a defensive player R2 looking at the players that are left due to the run on QBs/skill players R1. WR is SO deep that I think we can get depth in round 4-5 range there and with Howard we now have 4 legit pass catchers already. Seriously look at all these names – I think any of these guys could end up being solid depth and a potential #2 and at worst huge upgrades over Freddie Martino:

    Chris Godwin
    Zay Jones
    Curtis Samuel
    Ardarius Stewart
    Cooper Kupp
    Juju Smith Schuster
    Amara Darboh
    Carlos Henderson
    Taywan Taylor
    Dede Westbrook
    KD Cannon
    Josh Reynolds
    Isaiah Ford
    Josh Malone
    Malachi Dupre
    Chad Henson
    Shelton Gibson

That’s like 20 freaking WRs. I can’t say that about any other position. I sincerely doubt 10 WRs go in r2 and r3 lol that’d be the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. There’s 90 picks between 33 and 125; so a WR would have to go like every 4-5 picks on average to not have a shot at one of these guys. That isn’t going to happen. And we can always move up in R4 for one if we really like him over the others.

But if Cook is there you have to take him R2- unless he killed somebody or something lol
