Koetter Nearly Had An Accident

April 27th, 2017

All smiles and dry pants.

Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter felt like it was Christmas as he took the podium at One Buc Palace Friday night to talk about his new toy.

Though neither he nor Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht would reveal who they had atop their (realistic) draft board, it seemed clear by their reactions and words that Alabama tight end O.J. Howard was their top choice all along and he somehow fell to them.

Joe swears Koetter smiled more tonight than he did when he was introduced as Bucs head coach after sorry, lazy Lovie Smith was banished from the premises.

In fact, as the draft progressed and Howard kept falling and falling, Koetter found himself in a bad spot, nearly having an accident.

“The last six [picks before the Bucs] I had to go to the bathroom,” Koetter said with an ear-to-ear smile. “I didn’t want to stand up and jinx [Howard’s free fall].”

Koetter refused to get into specifics on how he would use Howard. He said that was premature, but Licht said Koetter might be up a long while drawing up plays.

In fact, Licht said he never received a tighter bear hug from Koetter until Licht pulled the trigger on Howard.

Licht said the war room of the Bucs was the most excited he has ever seen it when NFL strongman Roger Goodell called Howard’s name at the draft headquarters in Philadelphia, with the exception of the historic moment when the Bucs drafted America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

Where is NOS? I’ve looked on every story

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Where’s my money NOS?????

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

NOS, you said I could borrow your old lady for the night!

  4. JA Says:

It’s Thursday, not Friday night…although I hope he’s just as happy tomorrow night.

  5. cmurda Says:

You guys do realize that Dalvin is still on the board. It’s not impossible for us to either jump back into the end of the first or still have Cook drop to us in the 2nd.

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I’m so so disappointed in you Noles for not showing up

    ……..you better honor your bet!

  7. theodore Says:

I’m confused. The top punter was still on the board.

  8. buccfan305 Says:

Well Atlanta’s pick just embarrassed the F#@k out of them on national TV. No pun intended. LMFAO!!!!

  9. DBS Says:

He must be hiding at the Days In.

  10. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Never draft a RB in the 1st rd!!!

  11. NJBucsFan Says:

Cook in the 2nd is ok. He’s not a first round talent so I’m glad we didn’t waste a pick on him there

  12. firethecannons Says:

LOL!!!!!!! I am so on board with this pick! no doubt they were stoked in the war room. When titans picked adore Jackson,, they turned the card in super early I was praying it was not Tak McKinley–(went to the Falcons who traded up!!) so happy!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ buccfan305

    Yeah he sound really unintelligent

…….but who knows….he’s been though alot

But if he brings that same passion on the field…..he’ll maybe a wrecking ball

  14. Gencoimports Says:

I would rather we focus on defense tomorrow but if we take Cook tomorrow I won’t get sick if it had happened tonight.

  15. TallPaul Says:

Man, really wanted Cook but simply can’t complain about Howard. Looking forward to a two tight end set with Brate and Howard. Still plenty of time to get a good RB and speed WR/returner in later rounds. Wonder what they plan on defense … need depth for some aging starters.

  16. buccfan305 Says:

Cook won’t make to the 19th pick in the 2nd round. We can forget about Cook. I hope we finish strong in this draft.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  17. MadMax Says:

Now give Mike an accident and get OBI!!!!

  18. Tbbucs3 Says:

Cook is absolutely first round talent. I’m fine with the OJ pick but we still have no running game and that needs to be adressed.

  19. Trubucfan22 Says:

His name is not nosbos anymore. Please refer to him as “Princess”. 😂

  20. Pickgrin Says:

Way to hold it and not jinx the Howard pick Dirk! LOL

The curses are now officially kaput. The Bucs are blessed. What an awesome 1st pick. Howard is truly the steal of the 1st round at #19.

  21. JonBuc Says:

Koetter killed it with Tony Gonzalez at the end of his career in Atlanta. Howard will improve Winston’s completion percentage a few points and will help cut down on sacks ( from blocking and as a safety valve receiver as well. )

  22. Stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m happy with this pick, very happy because OJ passes the cliche test…he is a generational, game changer who can be a perennial All Pro.

But I’m still after an RB next..then we can spend the next five on defense I don’t care but I want an RB.

Tonight’s pick seems to elevate Foreman now on my wish list. He broke the legendary Earl Campbell’s record at Texas…running in the same conference as Mixon Foreman hit the 100 yard make EVERY game!

He’s an Eddie Lacy/Marshawn Lynch type…smashmouth football from a big guy who is relatively fast and agile. And he is considered one of the top blocking backs among the group. I’d love for #3 to have an insurance policy back there capable of cleaning up a missed block by the OL.

The biggest knock on Foreman is he only caught seven balls last year. With OJ and Brate and ME and DJAX and whomever ends up in the slot…Hump…there are plenty of targets and plenty of miss matches for Koetter to exploit without needing an RB in the pattern. And if the RB is a great blocking back that presents some genuine advantages! If the RB is a pounder and the middle of the line has three road graders like Pamphile, Marpet and Sweezy…we’d have a complimentary punishing running game capable of getting 3rd and short….capable of ensuring more TD’s in the red zone…All that passing from #3 and all the new targets with two old ones still in house balanced by a MEAN OL RB combo that is able to eat up 4th quarters when we get the lead.

The very best way to combat the great QB’s in our division is to develop a really great beast mode running attack to possess the ball, eat the clock, and keep the ball out of the hands of the other QB.

  23. buccfan305 Says:

    @Anthem

I was talking about the hugh F Bomb he dropped. Deion shocked….lmao.
Rich Eisen had to apologize to the live TV audience. I get that he’s emotional, but you have to keep your composure and be professional. Oh well he’s going to Alanta so I wish him absolutely no luck againt the Bucs.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  24. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Steelers draft TJ Watt

  25. Trubucfan22 Says:

My opinion has always been that cook is no more than a day 2 pick.

But lets let the Teams decide. We’ll see where he lands eventually. I wouldnt be surprised to see him there at #50

  26. richardtyson Says:

That was my problem but i guess coach Koetter has a better bladder than me.

  27. JimmyJack Says:

We need more talent o defense. I would be happy to see us get a S or Edge rusher tomorrow.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

Stpetebucsfan…I want a RB too…but do you not see the firepower we now possess? We’ll get our back in this draft I’m sure of it.

  29. Jeagan1999 Says:

I called Howard in Round 1……let’s see if Coach Koetter and Jason Licht are still listening……Curtis Samuel round 2! Joe Mixon or Kareem Hunt Round 3!

Thrilled with the big Alabama TE at 19!

  30. JimmyJack Says:

Good post StPete……I’d like to add that you can also combat opposing QBs with a pass rush

  31. richardtyson Says:

Oh yea, gd and hell mother eff’n yea. Go bucs!

  32. Supersam Says:

    Love it!!! Unreal!

  33. unbelievable Says:

@305 who gives a f@k if he dropped an f-bomb lol?

  34. cmurda Says:

We had to wait like 10 minutes or more for our pick to be announced but Licht had the pick called in like 4 seconds. I love the confidence

  35. Gambelero Says:

Bears, Chiefs, Browns fans going wtf; nice to be in happy land. Top 7 player at 19–and a two way TE was a real need.

  36. NFLNut Says:

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stumped for O.J. right from the start and explained that Jameis loves 2-TE sets and that OJ Howard would be the best possible pick as he is a true 3-down TE that never needs to come of the field … however I didn’t actually think he would still be on the board at #19 as the chatter was he could go high as #4 or at the lowest #10.

OJ is the type of player that could be with Jameis for the next 10+ years, have a HOF career and be one of the best TE’s to ever play the game!

    I AM STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I will say that if we get Cook or JOE MIXON, we could have the scariest, most talented, most dynamic and flat-out BEST group of 5 skill players in the entire NFL.

Mike Evans and D-Jax on the outside with OJ and Brate on the line and either Cook or Mixon in the backfield … NO DEFENSE COULD MATCH UP WITH THAT … that would be sick!!!!!

  37. Lunchbox Says:

Jeez guys, take it easy on NOSBOS. I know he was all in on DC at 19, but if we got him in the 2nd round, do you think he’d be upset? Relax. IMHO, I think Cook will now be gone when we pick again. If so-I’d like us to take Mixon. IF NOT-I’d hope we get Jordan Willis and then Perine/Foreman/Hunt. Personally, I’m hoping for Perine. I see him as Alstott 2.0. Who wouldn’t love another bruiser like Alstott? Minus the huge shoulder pads maybe lol.

  38. NFLNut Says:

I love NOSBOS … a passionate fan who’s posts are fun to read … I think he’ll be thrilled if we nab Cook in the 2nd round which is possible as the Packers could go CB, the Bengals could go OL and the Eagles could go CB and those are the three teams with the biggest RB needs as I see it.

I will say that one of DALVIN COOK, ALVIN KAMARA or JOE MIXON will probably be available at #50 and I would be stoked with any of them as they can all catch and could give us the most dynamic offense in the entire NFL!

  39. German Buc Says:

Great post, StPete! Would love to see our Bucs that way. Add a Safety capable of blitzing to the mix and we fans will have to make a trip to Minneapolis in February!

  40. 941BUC Says:

Joe dare I say it?!TAMPA BAY IS OFFICIALLY THE LEGENDARY 5 HEADED MONSTER OF THE NFC SOUTH?AND MAY ADD ANOTHER IN ROUND 2?Man the south is looking dominant and separating itself from the NFC “elites.”

  41. teacherman777 Says:

    In 2015,

Doug Martin and Charles Sims were the BEST RB in combo in the NFL!!

They are both healthy and still on the roster!

Now we have added Jaquizz Rodgers, who I loved when he played for ATL,

And Peyton Barber with his huge gluttious maximus.

    We are FINE at RB.

I wish we could add Blount but NOT draft a RB!!

    Pick a RB next year.

We have other pressing needs this year.

    Go Bucs!!
