Cousins, Redskins Dance Bears Monitoring

February 15th, 2017

Contract drama.

Joe is sure that after the Capitol Collapse in 2015, the crown jewel of the lazy Lovie Smith era in Tampa Bay, no Bucs fan ever wanted to hear the name “Kirk Cousins” again.

But intelligent Bucs fans who pine for a wide receiver should closely monitor the contract talks (or lack thereof) between the Redskins and Cousins.

As Joe has noted, Cousins, the same quarterback who mounted the biggest comeback in the storied history of the Redskins against Lovie’s famed defense, will be a free agent unless he and the Redskins work out a deal in the next few weeks or the team franchise tags him again.

The Redskins also have two other big-name free agents of interest — and Joe certainly is — wide receivers Pierre Garçon and DeSean Jackson.

If one of the three — Cousins, Garcon and Jackson — is franchised, then it is a good bet one of the remaining two will be re-signed. Don’t expect the Redskins to afford all three.

Frankly, if Cousins leaves, what’s the point of keeping expensive receivers if there is no one to throw them the ball?

There is no way the ‘Skins franchise anyone besides Cousins. They arent gonna pay Garcon or D-Jax like a top 5 WR (which is what the franchise tag does). If they dont tag Cousins they probably just wont use it.

    @Joe

Don’t underestimate NFL GM Bruce Allen to move the funny money around!!!! They were up against the cap last year, and all of a sudden they were able to give Josh Norman a huge contract!!!!!!!

I would prefer Kenny Britt or Kenny Stills. Both are younger, stills has killer speed and Britt is a strong reciever playing on a horrible team. My money says Livht brings stills here but I would lime Britt as well, garcon and jackson are not as attractive options to me

I would be happy with any of those receivers including DJAX. Heck let’s get two and that frees us in the draft.

The word in the street is Bruce Allen is letting Cousin’s agent know “Quarteback of the Future” is coming to D.C. He will not waste his time waiting on Cousins!!!!!!

    Whoa!!!!!!!!

  6. Kevin Says:

Dont get me.wrong I would love to see djax playing for us, but not sure how durable he will be and how many years he will play. Still or Britt can sign a longer term deal and solidify the position for a while while we develope a draft pick or two over the years. But if they wanna sign djax AND another fa reciever bring him on board!!!

  7. SB Says:

I have been chatting with Redskins fans on an NFCE Blog site lately and they all seem to think the organization is going to keep Garcon over DJax. Id rather have DJax anyway.

  8. ndog Says:

Lets just sign Kenny Bell back.

Britt has an ugly injury history and we all know how fans around here take to a player that has any ding or dang..?!

  10. LakeLandBuc Says:

*You Like That* ….a phrase Kirk Cousins coined after bringing the Skins back from 24-0 against the Bucs. Then he went out and got a trademark for it. I guess the Skins didn’t ..Like That… He haven’t got a long term deal yet.

  11. Adamant Says:

Ndog – Kenny Bell wouldn’t even be an upgrade to the Tampa Talent team in a Let itFly tournament

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

@ndog and Adamant- He has great hair though!!!

  13. ndog Says:

Correct Kenny Bell couldn’t even make THAT team!!!!!

  14. unbelievable Says:

    No to Kenny Britt.

    We need speed at WR.

  15. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Wish we could have got Norman
