“Two Weeks” And Full-Go For Jameis

January 9th, 2017

Help these guys!

The face of the Buccaneers, the Kwon Alexander of the offense, sent quite a message to his Buccaneers brethren this morning.

That’s how Joe saw it when America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, took to the ESPN2 stage in Tampa during pregame festivities for tonight’s college national title game in Tampa.

Jameis explained his winter plans. In short, Jameis will be grinding to greatness by the end of the month.

“Right now just get your body, get your legs back up underneath you. In two weeks, we’re going to start training hard, man, trying to build our way up to hopefully a Super Bowl here,” Jameis said.

Joe sure hopes the rest of the Bucs were listening and preparing to emulate their leader. Officially, the Bucs report for the 2017 season on Monday, April 17. So there’s a load of down time ahead.

When Jameis was in locker-cleanout mode at One Buc Palace last week and spoke to local media, he mentioned he’d be going back to famous trainer Tim Grover, who is best known for being Michael Jordan’s performance guru. Grover worked with Jameis last offseason and guided Jameis’ highly-publicized body transformation.

When can Winston start working with the coaching staff again?

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

……there is such a thing called “too much work” there young Jameis

……I know he still has a sour taste in his mouth for not almost making the playoffs…..but dangit!…….he’s gots ta chill!!!!!

  3. Kevin Says:

Great work ethic…but dont burn yourself out. This is why I think 2018 he will shatter nfl records…but this year will still be a learning ecperience with improvement.

  4. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Great leader licht get rid of 93 and get another #1 pick, guy wont fall into 2nd banana and dont need his 8-8 is great attitude

  5. Buc believer Says:

Hell Dusty #93 wanted to have a parade for a 9-7 season. Dude is a proven loser!

  6. USFBUC Says:

He will have a world class trainer so no need to worry about over working himself. That trainer will have a solid plan to keep Winston in shape and pushing his physical limits to get stronger.

  7. 813bucboi Says:

    great to hear…GO BUCS!!!

Oh Goodness…….don’t get me started on GMC…….aka “Mr Softie”

…….so sick of his “soft” antics……injured every year, disappears every year,………..ain’t there when you need him except for when he’s getting garbage sacks (non impactful)…..

He’s dead weight and a cancer to Jameis ambitious superbowl dreams!

  9. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Winston’s focus this off season needs to be mechanics. His feet, his hips, his arm need to get on the same page. I’m all for him staying in great shape, but Michael Jordan didn’t know how to throw a football. JW needs a QB guru to coach the pitcher out of him. I’m not “hating”, just acknowledging what I believe is the one area of Jameis’ game that is keeping him from MVP status.

  10. JameisDungy Says:

    @BigPoppaBuc

You’re not wrong, but he made great strides this season. HIs jump from rookie year to 2nd year was impressive for a 22 year old. Didn’t show in stats because we had less talent this year.

The strong running game last year bailed out Jameis’s poor mechanics his rookie year.

He won’t be perfect next season, but I expect he’ll be improved mechanically.

  11. LakeLandBuc Says:

Jameis Winston need to work on his poor decisions. 18 INT will not get you a playoff berth, unless your defense is getting a lot of turnovers.

  12. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Lakeland totally agree but IMHO i definitely think he will be focused on his mechanics and as stated by I think chris spileman, who observed that jameis over strides a bunch….im really glad the bucs have Jameis and he wants to bring super bowl to tampa and is doing everything in his power to do that…hopefully some of the locker room lightweights will shut up and join his desire for this

  13. 941BUC Says:

How about yall guys lay of of 93?I wanna see yall guys try to get past a double team and still perform because if it want for him no one on the dline would’ve had as many sacks as they did this year.he is the reason the dline performs how it does even if it looks like he isn’t doing much.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

TRADE GMC!!!!!….trade him for a first….hell i’ll trade him for a second and third….after last years,” everybody just go have fun ” speech and now this years, “they don’t respect us” while smiling speech is all I can take…..we need a pissed off dt that never smiles and impacts the game every series…..no more getting a sack in the first quarter on the second series and being invisible for the rest of the game…..no more getting a tfl in the first quarter and being invisible the rest of the game…..we need more pissed off defenders like ayers and kwon….GO BUCS!!!!

  15. Mort Says:

We have one of the best DTs in football and you boneheads want to trade him for a lottery ticket? Good grief.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

Bucs will never win consistently or a big game with 93 on roster. His pathetic pre game speech is being used on 40 states for viagra overdoses. The new bucs are determined and hungry 93 is soft and mentally weak. He’s not cut out for football maybe figure skating curling

  17. Trubucfan22 Says:

Id rather see him working with a QB guru. Our QB needs help with his mechanics.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

@941….that can be debatable…..when ayers went out in week2, the defense sucked until he returned….we couldn’t stop the run or pressure the qb….how much more help does he need?….GO BUCS!!!

  19. 813bucboi Says:

@mort…..the best dt?….LOLOLOLOLOL….SMDH….I guess you only read stats and don’t watch the games…..GO BUCS!!!!

  20. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

93 can go and he has infected LVD as well….the loafing that joes showed in saints must win playoff game was the epitome of the 93 shuffle, maybe trade him to Cleveland or Tenn for one of their #1s, 93 could be happy in cleveland

  21. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    A trubuc
He also has a qb trainer. I believe his name is Whitfield or somthing like that. (Don’t quote me on that)

  22. Waterboy Says:

    @LakeLandBuc

I think adding more talent should help with the poor decision making. When you have guys that don’t really scare other teams that tends to create tighter throwing windows and less room for error.

  23. ndog Says:

Lets see does no one open, no running game and no time to throw lead to mistakes? Survey says YES!!!

  24. Duke Says:

    @bigpoppa, jameisdungy,

It’s not like it’s the first time I’ve heard “coach the baseball out of him”, can either one of you explain how/why and what results are expected?

The issue of his “mechanics” continues to be brought up by fans. The issue with baseball is something that everybody seems to be in agreement upon.
But is it just repeating what you’ve heard to sound informed or is there some tangible knowledge behind it.

  25. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’d only get rid of McCoy for at least 2 2nd rounders or a 1st. But we’re not shopping him.

Most locker rooms have a mix of personalities. He’s not the leader of this team anymore so I really think it’s that big a deal. If other players on our team sucked because of a bad speech McCOy gave that’s on them

I’d rather keep McCoy and just add another disruptive interior lineman via FA if we can. Dream would be Kawaan Short if Carolina somehow decides to move on after drafting Vernon Butler last year.

  26. DB55 Says:

Doesn’t really matter, the glaziers ain’t really trying to win. They ain’t trying to spend no money to bring in winners therefore 93 is their perfect ambassador.

Jameis will be gone before Rainbow Dash I garuntee you that!!!

  27. tmaxcon Says:

    DB55

You are very accurate sadly. Glazers could careless about product on field.

  28. 813bucboi Says:

@lord….k.short will be resigned…but Mario Addison might not….that’s someone we need to keep on our radar….GO BUCS!!!!

  29. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Wow…the Bucs post a winning season for the first time in six years! This is a team that has lost twice as many games as it’s won over the life of the franchise.

We discover some talent…we put up A FIVE GAME WIN STREAK…I’m too lazy to google that one but it’s been forever since the Bucs ran off a streak.

And yet the negativity in here for “some” posters..as in “some” cases is just sad and pathetic. Would not want to be you guys for anything in the world. As a Buc’s fan though it no longer aggravates me because I truly feel sorry for anybody negative enough to resort to such hyperbole a thoughtful person would be too embarrassed to post.

STOP ALREADY!!! You guys are literally making fools of yourselves. Nobody is saying that GMC is HOF or Sapp’s equal. NOBODY is saying he’s the best DT in the league….BUT FREAKING EVERYBODY IN THE LEAGUE SAY HE’S A GOOD PLAYER!

You embarrass yourself in life when you take shots a guys with actual achievements from a keyboard.

There is a Zen saying….you see where you place your attention…if you wish to CONCENTRATE on GMC’s shortcomings then that’s what you’ll SEE…if you wish to CONCENTRATE on GMC’s strength’s that’s what you’ll see….if you wish to observe an honest view of the situation with some BALANCE..that’s what you’ll see!!!

What is sad is that a teams fans would feel the need to disparage one of the best players on that team simply because the TEAM has not achieved success.

Add into the mix that the guy being trashed may be one of the very best humans on our team and a class act…and let’s face it…that’s the very reason a few..not alll!!!! but a few twisted minds here dislike GMC because he’s not a flaming AA-hole like Sapp…doesn’t beat women..so clearly he cannot be nasty enough to be a good football player!!! Just sad…I end with one name…

    Derrick Brooks!

  30. Reach87 Says:

@Stpete, concur 100% and well-said. Its utterly ridiculous how some posters carry on. An article about Winston preparing for the season turns into an indictment of McCoy. I would offer, if you wish he were nastier, say that. Don’t call him soft from behind a keyboard…cause he’s not. Many of these comments have no semblance of being a Bucs fan. They sound more like fans of another team, the way they try to tear us down. Talk about locker room cancers…how about JBF cancers?

  31. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Some of you are just miserable people.

  32. TarzanTheBucsFan Says:

St.pete exactly. Gmc is a class act. Because he is not warren sapp (one of the worst persons ive ever met) does not mean hes soft. He is a good player and a better person

  33. c-spann Says:

I know you guys arent hatin on JW. But some of you guys are saying he has bad mechanics, he still threw for 4000 yds bad mechanics and all that is saying alot about how special this young man is

  34. macabee Says:

Jameis Winston should seek the counsel and training on Tom House, former major league baseball pitcher, turned passing guru to the best QBs in the NFL.

Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, and a long list of other NFL QBs have been advised and trained by House. Being a former baseball pitcher himself, I think Winston could relate to House’s experience and would be of immense help with his stride, mechanics, and accuracy. Tom Brady and Drew Brees swear by the positive effect House has had on their game. Drew Brees continues to this day having an annual visit with House!

Winston would be wise to at least spend a week with House. The NFL greats can’t all be wrong!

    ————————————————————————————-

You’re another example of another stat geek / checker fan………………and it sure doesn’t seem like you actually watch the game closer than a casual fan.

How many yards you throw doesn’t truly relate to how “well” you actually throw the ball down field / to open receivers.

Jameis tends to overstride alot………and all that overstriding leads to over thrown balls and balls sailing high over the receivers heads.

When I used to coach youth football, I had to break bad habits from QBs who often were pitchers for baseball and then QBs for football……and here’s what all their problems were:

    #1 MECHANICS
    #2 FOOTING
    #3 RELEASE

It’s not like they were purposely trying to do it either.

Jameis has improved……I give him that much, but his MECHANICS is still a huge issue going forward for next season until he proves otherwise.

  36. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I feel so blessed to be able to read a blog with so many football experts who know more than everyone else. I mean, why would I listen to coaches, GM’s, front office execs, former players, current players, media, and other people who do this for a living when I can listen to people with no expertise, no experience, and no credibility whatsoever? To add to that, they are anonymous, which makes their word even more solid. It is especially encouraging to know that they actually believe what they type!!! I feel so enlightened with each analysis that I am hoping to one day possess just a small portion of the knowledge that they have.

  37. Stpetebucsfan Says:

@Anthem and others who mirror his thoughts about #3.

    #1 MECHANICS
    #2 FOOTING
    #3 RELEASE

I don’t think anybody doesn’t believe there is room for improvement. I’ll be gauging that like the rest of you. I think if he improves half as much between years 2-3 as he did years 1-2…barring a totally collapsed running game we’ll be in the playoffs…even if we didn’t get another WR or TE.

But Anthem at the end of the day for me 1…2….and 3…are still far down the list for me.

Show me the money!!! I do not care how pretty he looks if he wins 12 games next year he can stride how he wishes and release it where he wants.

At the end of the day do we not all agree with the late Al Davis?

    Just win baby!

  38. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    ——-

Lol. Yes, he will join a long list of DT’s that are the reason teams can’t win big games. It doesn’t matter that he is the first or second guy mentioned by EVERY single player on this team in regards to the guy with the best work ethic and greatest leadership attributes on the team. They are probably just saying that because he’s a nice guy, or maybe because the Glazers force everyone to do that since they obviously could care less if we win or not. I trust the inside information from guys like you who obviously have spent hours upon hours in the locker room and meetings, which is how you know what kind of a person and leader McCoy is. It’s fantastic to know someone who knows more than the media and players. Thank you so much!!!!

  39. Rod Munch Says:

I disagree, not everyone needs to only get 2 weeks off, a lot of guys can actually benefit from getting away for a while. It’s a personal choice. It’s easy to get burned out when you do too much – in particular if you’re just a role player. For guys who want to work year round, that’s great, some people are wired that way. For guys who aren’t however, they shouldn’t be looked down on for not working on things for next season before the Super Bowl is even played, burnout is a real thing and it can ruin some people. With that said I personally never took a sick day or anything in 15 years, and over 15 years I took maybe 4 weeks total of vacation, so not approaching it from the lazy side or anything, but I know most people aren’t wired like me and they couldn’t do it. I see that as me being special in a good way, not them being lazy in a bad way.

  40. 813bucboi Says:

@st.pete…..did you read @morts, comments?…..some do think he’s the best dt in the league LOL…..is he a good player?…no doubt…but is he a $100 million dollar player….I don’t see it….if you never watched a bucs game and just picked up a paper a read his stats for the year, you would think he’s the best in the league….but what if I told you that 70% of his tackles and sacks came in the first quarter….were is he the following 3 quarters?…..the funny thing is he gets half his stats/sacks vs. atl….no one else….no one says he needs to be an a$$hole like sapp….but he could have a mean streak like ayers….there’s nothing mean or scary about GMC….its all smiles and hugs with him…..he’s not driven to win, he’s driven to be a good guy….he wants to be known as a great player….Winston wants to be known as a winner…huge difference….year after year all I hear from gmc is how he wants 10sacks….not a playoff game…not a superbowl ring….but 10sacks….gmc’s attitude has effected other players on this team and im sick of it….its only a matter of time before Winston and kwon call his a$$ out for being all smiles and hugs all the time….shoot, Winston said last year after the panthers game that players need to focus on the “whys”…..gmc said he was satisfied with this year and Winston was dissatisfied….you see “why”…..GO BUCS!!!!

  41. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“but what if I told you that 70% of his tackles and sacks came in the first quarter….were is he the following 3 quarters?”
    ——–
If you told me that, I’d say you were lying, because it’s not true.

“he’s not driven to win, he’s driven to be a good guy”
    ——–
How do you know what drives him? Are you a friend of his? That’s pretty cool. I wonder why he is already working out today? That doesn’t seem to backup your statement, but I’m sure there’s a reason. Maybe he’s working out for curling?

  42. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“year after year all I hear from gmc is how he wants 10sacks….not a playoff game…not a superbowl ring….but 10sacks”

    ————

Complete lie. I’ve never once heard him say a word about 10 sacks. I’ve heard him talk about winning a Super Bowl more times than I can count. He has put it on social media. He has said it in interviews. You are flat out lying, and it’s pathetic – as if people are so stupid they would just believe you. Your ignorance is laughable.

  43. 813bucboi Says:

he’s working out today?…really?….maybe he is….but I doubt it…..the very first thing he said when lovie was hired was he should get 10sacks with this system in place….not playoffs…not superbowl but 10sacks…..I don’t care about social media….you are just in denial….and its hilarious….SAD but hilarious….GO BUCS!!!!

  44. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“he’s working out today?…really?….maybe he is….but I doubt it…..the very first thing he said when lovie was hired was he should get 10sacks with this system in place….not playoffs…not superbowl but 10sacks…..I don’t care about social media….you are just in denial….and its hilarious….SAD but hilarious….GO BUCS!!!!”

    ———-

So you never heard him speak at that exact same time about getting championships for Tampa? Funny how you hear what you want. And yes, he was working out today. Perhaps you should open your ears to what everyone else is saying. And you say I’m the one in denial, lol. You have no idea

  45. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Nuff said HAWAIIAN BUC and STPETE…🖒

Who cares how pretty JW plays, as long as we get the W.

IT AMAZES me how these professional finger-tapping athletes know how to do it all!

  46. 813bucboi Says:

IN 2016 GMC had 34 tackles- 21 of his 34 tackles came in the 1st half of the game…..13 came in the second half….WHEN GAMES ARE WON!!!!!….que the, “but he gets double teamed all the time”…..I saw ron leary kick his a$$ 1on1 every single play and leary is a back up playing only because le’al Collins is injured….

suh had 72 tackles and 5 sacks….now that’s a 100million dollar dt….the best in the league….while leading his team to the playoffs….GO BUCS!!!!

  47. 813bucboi Says:

ACTUALLY, suh had 75tackles including the playoff game…..suh had 33 tackles in the first half of games with zero sacks…..he had 42 tackles and 5sacks in the second half of games…..big time players step up when the games are on the line….GO BUCS!!!!

  48. 813bucboi Says:

“And yes, he was working out today.”…..

did you see him working out?….or did you read it on social media…..men lie, women lie,…numbers don’t lie…..GO BUCS!!!!

  49. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    813bucboi,

You’re talking about tackles and a 3 technique, lol. Hilarious.

  50. BuccaneEric75 Says:

He’s the second youngest starting QB in the league. Plenty of time to get better.

  51. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, my comment telling the McCoy haters to please travel to northern Iraq where they’re hopefully get beheaded, that was removed? The censorship Joe… come on man, these people are morons, wishing their heads would get detached from their bodies would be a good thing.

  52. Rod Munch Says:

Winston is only 2nd youngest only behind Goff, if you consider him to be a starter. Pretty impressive Winston has two 4000 yards under his belt already, and he did so this year with only Mike Evans and a bunch of UDFAs and against on the toughest schedules in the league and has stayed healthy.

BTW the Tennessee Titans have played the league’s easiest schedule over the last two years combined (32nd this year, 21st last year).

  53. muvlodge Says:

No such thing as too much work in football yes you need to let your body recover and some aspects but actually if you can keep going your body respond better it’s when you stop working out when your body reacts in a bad way. You can keep working out in some way or another the body will respond much better if you keep it going, physically as well as mentally. Not to mention Jameis is still young so he better get it while the gettin’s good.

  54. DavidBugBucsfan99 Says:

Fameis needs to work with ME13 on hitting him in stride and bring his passes down. ACCURACY ACCURACY ACCURACY is the keyword of the offseason!

  55. DavidBugBucsfan99 Says:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bhnTooCe-Lk.

Fameis learns to do this more often he’d have some killer stats and Bucs would have more wins

  56. Skyline Crew Says:

Agree with a majority of people here. Winston needs to work on mechanics and timing. He can’t continue to throw interceptions at the rate he does. We lost a game or two due to this. Will be nice to see his accuracy improve this upcoming season. Maybe we will make the playoffs. Time is on our side since the best passer in our division (Brees) is getting older. Just have to worry about Panthers and Falcons.
