“We Are Starting To Believe”

December 4th, 2016
Still won't touch the p-word.

Still won’t touch the p-word.

Joe has a hard time typing the following because, with a nod to Barry Switzer, Joe is not a fiction writer.

(That’s what Switzer used to call sportswriters he didn’t like: fiction writers.)

The Bucs are in first place. In December. Unreal! Yet it is very much true.

Of course, Bucs players won’t talk about the p-word. More about that later. Not even Bucs coach Dirk Koetter likes talking the p-word, but it is getting harder to ignore.

How the Bucs have gone from a team that got totally gouged by Carson Palmer, Derek Carr and Matty Ice, to a team that has peeled off four games in a row and is on the verge of something special is amazing.

Koetter after today’s victory in San Diego wouldn’t dare eff with the football gods and talk playoffs with four games left on the schedule, but he admitted something odd is arising with the Bucs.

“I just think we are one of those teams that are starting to believe,” Koetter said. “We are starting to believe that — it is crazy what confidence can do. When you starting making plays, it starts building on itself.”

Yes, this could be something special. Hell, just the fact the Bucs are in first place with four games left in the season is amazing enough.

Do the Bucs have enough mental confidence to sweep the Saints and beat the Stinking Panthers to get to 10 wins and a shot at a playoff berth?

Giddy thoughts indeed.

I’m all in that we can beat the Cowboys as well. In fact, I fear the saints more than the Cowboys.

    Go Bucs!

  2. EA Says:

Confidence comes with winning. Winning doesn’t happen by chance. Practicing hard, repetitions, trusting in each other, grinding. beating teams like the Chiefs and Chargers away and Seattle at home should give this team a lot of confidence because now they know what it takes to beat elite teams, been there done that as a group, with young Jameis at the helm. We have an exciting team here that is going to be fun to watch for many years.

No offense Gio but you should watch more football! The Saints suck and the Cowboys are really good!

Dirk’s post-game locker speech was great. Mainly the end of it… It was definitely a passionate moment and one that was Lovie wasn’t capable of having with this team.

To quote Dirk (and Roosevelt, I think), ‘Talk meek, but carry a Big Muthafukin Stick!!!’
