“JumboTron” Watching

Mike Evans, like most Bucs, are more concerned with New Orleans than the current NFC South standings.

How locked in are the Bucs with the tasks at hand?

Well, consider this exchange that Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans had in the locker room after today’s game in San Diego.

Joe was standing near Buccaneers.com reporter Casey Phillips when she talked to Evans about the game and asked if he knew about the Dixie Chicks’ score against the Chiefs from early this afternoon.

“Yeah, we saw [the score] on the JumboTron” scoreboard, Evans said. “I think we are in first or second.”

Evans honestly didn’t know. When Phillips mentioned, yes, the Bucs are in first place, it was like someone lit a firecracker behind Evans the way he jumped.

“Are we in first?! Aw, that’s awesome! We have to keep winning!”

That was pretty much the common theme when Joe asked several Bucs players their reaction to being in first place in the division.

“Have to beat New Orleans.”

“Have to keep winning.”

“We have more work to do.”

Evans was the only player who looked excited about being in first place. That’s not to say no one else was happy. They were. The thing is, the Bucs know without more wins, it doesn’t mean squat that they sit atop the division — tied with Atlanta — when they touch down at Tampa International Airport.

There is work to be done. No less than three more wins.

Dirk said in the locker room that we need to not get hyped up. (Speak softly, but carry a BIG MUTHA F#UCKIN STICK.) Lol I love it

A very healthy mentality. Worry about the games ahead instead of reveling in your accomplishments. I think that Arizona game drilled that into them.

It’s good to know they have worked this hard and it is paying off with a first place record. But obviously the season is not over and there are a lot Loren football to be played. Keep working.

Joe, have you considered hiring Casey away from the Bucs media dept? She’s a slick presenter. She knows the team.

Love your work and all, but one day you might wanna move into video content a bit more. And we’d all prefer to be watching Casey than either Joe. No knock on your journalistic abilities; just being honest here 😛

This team is going to keep winning. The attitude of not checking the standings, or who is next, but focusing on one game at a time and the idea of winning is awesome. So excited for the future. GO BUCS!!!!
