Hargreaves Should Have Received Game Ball

Used both mind and body to help Bucs win.

Used both mind and body to help Bucs win.

Some pretty cool stuff from Keith Tandy about the impact rookie corner Vernon Hargreaves made on Sunday’s win.

We all know about the fantastic play Hargreaves made tipping a pass deep in Chargers territory up so that Lavonte David could haul it in for a game-changing, pick-six.

Well, in the other interception of the game, the play that all but sealed the win for the Bucs, when Keith Tandy hauled in a lob from Philip Rivers, Tandy explained it was Hargreaves who set up the play by his mental awareness.

“[San Diego] came out with a formation that we’ve seen on film,” Tandy explained. “And then, actually it was the rookie, Vernon Hargreaves, that said ‘Hey watch this route.’ And they ran a route that he called out so I just tried to make sure that I had good eyes and turned when I got in phase with the receiver. I saw the ball come and tried to make a play.”

How cool is that? Hargreaves, a rookie, actually read the exact route Chargers receiver Dontrelle Inman was going to run and told a veteran where to go. And sure enough, it put Tandy in perfect position to help win the game.

Joe thinks that is some very cool ish right there.

Jason Licht strikes again! While some people did doubt this kid, man he has been awesome. It is amazing to see how the young players are leading this team. Jameis, Kwon, and now VHIII. Good times for the Buccaneers fans who have suffered long enough.

Any chance Mike Smith will stick around next year? Pay the guy head coaching money, treat him like Monte Kiffin. One more defensive output this week and I’m ready to spend some glazer money. The player’s progression this year has been insane.

I liked him in the first round but I’ll admit that I was concerned about the pick after a few games. Now he’s getting better every week it seems. The little things that help us win. Good pick men!!!

Its called preparation and it breeds football intelligence. Winston’s relentless quest for excellence is setting the tone and the new young stars like Kwon and VH3 and Spence are eager to work on their game and watch tons of film and prepare just as hard as what they see their leader doing.

Remember the reports of Kwon having hour long 6am meetings with Mike Smith every day in the beginning? He was determined to learn the defense as quickly and thoroughly as he could. He understood the importance of him knowing all the details and nuances, because as the signal caller of the defense – it is his responsibility on each and every play to get his teammates into the right position based on the call coach makes.

These guys (and we’re also talking about Evans, Hump, Brate, Marpet, Smith etc) are film rats and they all love playing football.

Good things are on the horizon for this franchise! This young band of dedicated brothers that Licht has assembled (and wlll continue to add to) are going to do special things on the football field together over the next few years.

I’m very impressed with his intelligence. Now just waiting for him to get that first pick. It will come, but teams are wisely not throwing his way a whole lot.

what VHGIII has is what this team has been lacking….players with HIGH FOOTBALL IQ….its one thing to be talented, but its a different ball game when your smart and talented….being able to take what you saw and learned from the class room and transition it to the field is the definition of being a professional athlete….I wanted VHG in the first round and he hasn’t let me down yet….keep ballin….GO BUCS!!!!
