Bucs Game In London In 2017?

December 9th, 2016

“Listen, gentlemen, the Custodian of Canton is ready for Shepherd’s Pie.”

The NFL announced today that 2017 will feature a four-game slate of regular-season games in London, one more game than this year.

Of course, that increases the likelihood your beloved Buccaneers are one of those teams. Heck, that’s eight out of 32 clubs headed across the pond (assuming nobody plays two).

The Bucs lost home games in Tampa while “hosting” in London back in 2009 and 2011.

Joe talked to Bucs owner Joel Glazer in March of this year about the Bucs possibly volunteering to play in China, where the NFL is exploring opportunities.

Joel Glazer: We’re seeing a lot more international games. We’ve played our two games in London already. We are always going to what to do what’s in the best interest of the National Football League. And you see a lot of teams stepping up and playing international games, and you’re seeing more and more of them. So, all teams are going to have to contribute at some point. We will always be a contributor at the right time. I don’t see it happening in the very near future. But at some point, all teams are going to be asked to play some more international games.

Joe would be stunned if the Bucs volunteered to give up a home game to play in London again. However, Team Glazer is eager to support league initiatives and Joe would not be shocked if the Bucs expressed great interest in being a “road” team in London next year.

Spreading the gospel of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, to London tabloids would be magical.

  2. Joehelldeloxley Says:

I’m fully supporting a road game in London !
I missed the 2009 and 2011 game and I really want to go and see the Bucs at least one time in my life !

  3. Cannon Says:

    Great Britain loves their Bucs.

I lived in Grand Cayman (a British island) for two years, and had some of the best Bucs watching experiences there at a small pub called The Pirate’s Den.

Joe, if you are ever there, look it up. The locals call it “PD’s”

  4. BucTrooper Says:

I think we dodged a bullet with the two London games… saved the season ticket holders some money… both losses in crappy seasons.

    No no no

I lived in the U.K. for a while and used to play touch football with my friends in Hyde Park when the weather was nice. Many of my British friends are really starting to get into American football. I think as long as they schedule the teams to have their bye week either immediately before or after a London game, the travel shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

i was there for both drubbings in london. it was lots of fun aside from the result. not worth losing a home game over, but as a road game it would be nice to go and come back with a win

This is WHY fans should own these teams. Packers have proved it over and over. Buc fans copied them, and guess what? They got ripped off and got Culverhouse shoved down our throats. Same mindset that brought you the tRump show for Prez. Some things never change. Brits are not into USA football. They are a very old culture, and have their own sports. Check out Manchester United. That’s Brit football.

    ENUFF SAID!!

I’m 100% against the Bucs playing in London period. I call it New World Order BS. It is just wrong in so many ways. Bad idea! The limeys have their boring kickball. In reality England is not an American ally.

  10. TampaTown Says:

Stop with the International BS! And put an end to Thursday night games. Anyone living abroad who likes football can plan a vacation on this side of the pond.

  11. unbelievable Says:

    Ugh, no thank you.

    The London games suck. Always.

If I’m not mistaken it’s the national football league, not international….

  12. Pickgrin Says:

NFL needs to quit trying to internationalize the game. It creates too many issues. Too many inconveniences for the players and the teams.

How about fixing what’s ailing the game of American Football – right here in America. In denial King Goodell? Check the ratings!

welcome to sports in 2017. about 2% of the world’s Manchester United fans reside in Manchester. There’s probably a province in China where the team has shipped more Wayne Rooney jerseys than are sold at the Old Trafford team shop. A fraction of Premier League fans live in the UK. No amount of local or domestic support makes it worthwhile for a team or league to ignore the possibilities of a global fan base

international fan bases are good for internet revenues in particular, and eventually allow you to sell more valuable TV rights packages overseas.

More money for doing the exact same thing they’re already doing….do you really expect 32 billionaires to just ignore that prospect?

I’m British (Welsh, not English) and love your Football, and guess what? There’s NOTHING you can do about it. Go and get angry about that! Idiot.

‘Boring kickball’. Football/Soccer is the biggest sport in the world. This is not a matter of perception, this is a fact. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it ‘boring’, it means you find it boring.

Stop spouting your uneducated opinions as though theyre factually correct, when you are clearly not intelligent AT ALL.

Join the current century, and open your eyes.

The 2009 game in Wembley was one of my biggest experience despite the heavy loss to the belicheats… I’m a Bucs fan from Hungary / Europe so an other derby in the UK would be great! Cant Wait for it! :))

Joe, love the site and wanted to thank you for introducing me to
The podcasts, both commish and Mr. Kaufmann. I’m only posting because I am a man of faith and wanted to tell you man to man that all this “messiah and gospel” talk really makes me cringe every time I see it in an article. Dude, I love my team. I still keep pieces of the now leveled big sombrero in a mason jar with an old bucco Bruce sticker on it. I get it. Relevancy feels great but bro I can no longer read these little excerpts without saying something. Others may call it blasphemous but at this juncture I’ll call it poor judgement. Please consider the power of words and inference when using terminology designated for the sacred.
