Jameis Playing Like A Veteran

One of the first things Dirk Koetter said after the win over the Chiefs was how well America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, played.

One could argue it was his best NFL game, given the circumstances, opponent and venue.

Well-respected Xs and Os analyst Greg Cosell of NFL Films agrees. In a piece for Yahoo! Sports, Cosell breaks down Bucs-Chiefs tape and marvels at the inside game Jameis played.

Winston made some excellent throws in an upset win, and the most impressive part of his performance was how calm he was in the pocket. He looked like a veteran with good progression reads and anticipation throws. He has shown high-level quarterbacking traits before, and they were on display against the Chiefs. …

Winston was decisive from the pocket in this game, and had a very good feel for route concepts against the Chiefs’ coverage, which was mostly man. I was very impressed with his progression reading.

At times this season Winston has looked like a second-year quarterback trying to find consistency. He played like a long-time veteran on Sunday.

Cosell dives deep with screen shots to illustrate areas where Jameis excelled. It’s a good read.

And people still don’t want to do the war chant?? Come on Tampa!!!

War chant and Jameis played arguably his best game of his career. Correlation does not equal causation which is why it should be tested!!!

  2. buccfan305 Says:

Call it the Tampa chop and ppl will jump on board.

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

I say no war chant, we do need something though!!!! Like the sea shanty “drunken sailor” and put some new lyrics on it!!! it is pretty close to a war chant if the stadium it was screaming it!!!

youtube ” sea shanty drunken sailor vocals only” !!!!!!! I would link it but Joe was blocking everything a couple of days ago. It seems our admin status as ” The Bucs Disciples” is still pending!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. T in Orlando Says:

How about the “Seminole Hard Rock” chop, so at least it makes some sense for the local area.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

The kid’s going to be oh sooooo……NASTY!

  6. Clodhopper Says:

    Ok Realist

Ill be more than happy to compromise and sing “Shave his belly with a rusty razor” all game long. I’m on board!!!!

  7. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

Hope our players aren’t drunk on the recent success and are getting ready for a great matchup this weekend. Would love for our guys to stomp the arrogant Shehawks.
We could call the tomahawk cheer, The Tom Mchale Pork chop!

  8. Bucsince1976 Says:

Isn’t Cosell the yahoo who said Jared Goff was a better prospect than Winston?

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I like Winston plenty, but playing like a veteran? Well, I suppose a 2nd year QB is considered a veteran, but he certainly isn’t great yet. I believe he will get there, but he isn’t there yet.

He has weaknesses to overcome, just like any 2nd year player.

  10. gilhealy Says:

Thanks Bonzai. None of us knew he was a 2nd yr player who still needs to grow. Darn, we thought he was a finished product. Thanks for tempering our enthusiasm for the young man’s play of late. Good thing your around.

  11. gilhealy Says:

    *you’re around.

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

He played extremely well against KC. I couldn’t help but think what it would have been like if he hadn’t sailed a few passes. It’s fun to watch. He’s so close.

  13. R.O. Says:

All I’ll say is none of it would be possible without the protection. Also it seemed to me the Chiefs did not blitz a lot. Probably thinking they could get pressure brining 3-4 rushers. Played a lot of Man cover 1, because they locked up EB on CB the whole game.

  14. Patrickbucs Says:

Joe’s are you going to post and comment on the NFL Executives future projections Winston vs. Mariota article by John Clayton on BSPN? I personally cannot open as I am not a insider subscriber but I have heard the outcome.

  15. Vincente Says:

    War chant! Why not!?

  16. Newbucsfan2 Says:

Call it the ” Buc War Chant”.

  17. Pit Says:

You can’t make a new chant if you are not organized and the nfl fans are not.

So I don’t see what the problem is with using the FSU one. For the ppl that say why is he so attached to the school where he played only two years the same question goes for the ones that don’t us to sing that chant. Why are you so attached to a different university and hate FSU so much.

Anyway we will need to put this on the big speakers of the stadium.

  18. Ocala Says:

The crazy thing is outside of an elite receiver in Mike Evans
Jamies is becoming dominant with not much help from other weapons.
No matter how this season goes if the Bucs can pick up
a free agent WR for their number 2(Michael Floyd, Kamar Aiken, Terrell Prior or Robert Woods) a deap threat(Marquise Goodwin or Cordarrelle Patterson) along with drafting another pass catching TE in the 2nd or 3rd round(Evan Engram or Bucky Hodges) the Bucs offense will become elite next year.

  19. Clodhopper Says:

What Pit said!! Everyone is over thinking it. It’s like Evans’ and VJax nickname. Godzilla, Dunkaneers. Twin Towers. Too many ideas and none panned out. Just do it!! Don’t over think it. Just chant and chop and go home knowing you helped the team win!!

  20. The bucfan 88 Says:

lol I’m a Georgia bulldog fan and I hate the war chant but if it helps Tampa win next year when I go to the Georgia dome I will get sum speakers and play the chant just for Jameis
