Bucs lose Ben Gottschalk, Sunday’s starting left guard, and make roster moves.

In two short weeks, Ben Gottschalk played a ton of snaps at center and started Sunday at left guard — and he played well.

Now he’s done for the year.

Those were Gottschalk’s first NFL regular season snaps after two-plus seasons fighting for a shot in the league.

The Bucs announced he was placed on injured reserve today. Gottschalk went down on the field in the first half against the Chiefs.

Tampa Bay promoted Josh Allen from the practice squad. Allen had some rough moments on the field for the Bucs in past year, but he did have a solid preseason. Like Gottschalk, he can play guard or center.

The Bucs did some other roster shuffling, including releasing running back Russell Hansbrough from the practice squad, a sign Jacquizz Rodgers could be ready to roll against the Seahawks.

    Crushing hit? Really?

Pamphile is likely to be cleared from concussion protocol and Smith should be back in a week or so….

    I wouldn’t say crushing.

big hit to our depth….any more injuries and we’re screwed….GO BUCS!!!!

Doug Martin was getting big holes to run through with him in and when he got hurt we had way to much action in the backfield as he was getting the ball. This is a hit not only to this year but to this young mans great opportunity.

Thank God for the $weezey $igning….just activate him and we’re good!

I may be wrong, but I swear Benenoch actually got the start Sunday and was pulled immediately after the very first pass play for a complete turnstile whiff. Can anybody confirm this?

When is the paltry Bucs media going to put the screws to our ego-in-chief GM about what went down with IR Sneezy?
Godchalk didn’t cost a truck load of cap money but IR Sneezy did and we didn’t get so much as an OTA out of this conman. GM needs to explain himself. His power, fevered ego and the conflicted Bucs media are allowing him to take a pass. Total BS

This is about the stupidest thing Joe has read in a while. Sweezy’s been written about 100 times. It’s a failed signing. Simple as that, and the Bucs could have used the money in other key areas. The truth on his injury is unlikely to ever come out. Why “put the screws” on when what his injury is/was is not relevant. Next. –Joe

Allen had a great pre-season, we’ll be fine if he is our backup center.

Honestly I am more concerned with the loss of Hey Jude. He wasn’t perfect by any means but Safety and Nickle was already a weakness. Time for Robinson to step up.

I know its unwritten rule amoung various GM’s – not to touch another teams practice squad prospects. An for some odd reason this year our GM Jason Licht has been extremely reluctant to do so.

But C’mon brotha – when the cupboards are bare – U gotta do something. Or the kids won’t kid. So I think its about time – he throws his ski mask on, and plunder & pillage

NosBos and I have a Jersey bet on the UF / FSU game.
I told him to go ahead and get me a ME13, 1XL on Black Friday so he can save some money.

Nope, what you saw was a FOX graphic listing Benenoch as starting RG, but from the Bucs 1st play from scrimmage, it was Gottschalk in there (similar numbers, Benenoch-77, Gottschalk-72). They must have tapped Gottschalk for the start just a few hours before the game. Maybe CB missed a curfew…or something? Or maybe, they just figured Gottschalk had earned the start.

Tough for him to go down in the only start of his career. Looks like he just stepped backward in pass protection awkwardly and tore some gristle in the knee.

  15. JP4 Says:

My bad, Benenoch was listed…of course..as the starting LG, not starting RG. Sorry, Marpet is apparently doing just fine!
