Martin was last seen in a Bucs uniform with his right hamstring wrapped in Arizona. (

The dark cloud of disappointment won’t be clearing from the skies over One Buc Palace soon.

Doug Martin has “had a setback” in his recovery from a Week 2 hamstring injury, Dirk Koetter said this afternoon at One Buc Palace.

Koetter said it happened 10 days ago. He offered no specifics.

What a kick in the groin to Bucs fans yearning for a playoff run and a return to the punishing and diverse running game of 2015. Maybe Jacquizz Rodgers can pull off more heroics on the heels of his career high of 30 carries and 101 yards rushing against Carolina. But how much punishment can his 5-6 frame take?

Man, Joe was so hopeful Martin would be back raring to go for the Bucs’ three-game homestand following Sunday’s 49ers game.

    We are cursed. I’m convinced.

  2. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Dougie is not worth playing unless he is 100%. Not 80, not 90.

    100%.

  3. Warrenfb12 Says:

Unbelievable. Wonder how he had a “setback” on the weekend…guy gets paid and cashes it in for half a season on a hamstring injury.

  4. BradentonBucFan Says:

Long time reader, first time poster. I felt compelled to post out of frustration with the injuries on this team. I am have been a Bucs fan my entire life and each year I fall into the trap the Bucs set with their optimism and how this season will be different than the last. It seems to me like we have more misdiagnosis by the medical staff and soft tissue injuries than any other team. I cant be the only one that feels that way…

  5. @Hands2theface Says:

Well, Poop! Quizz it is…he might only be 5-6 but he’s built like the man formerly known as pocket hercules, MJD.

  6. theodore Says:

I can’t wait for the last year of his contract again.

  7. tmaxcon Says:

    get well soon mr. martin…

  8. Knucknbuc Says:

The return of dougillac!! I wasnt ecstatic when we resigned him. This is why dude is incredibly injury prone. Id be fine with dumping him after the guaranteed money is off his contract.

  9. Arealbucsfan Says:

    @Matthew was friggin right! Wtf!

  10. Charmin Ultra Yucs Says:

Waste of $. Add rb to the long list of draft needs

  11. tmaxcon Says:

it seems majority of bucs players with durability came from the Marc Dominick failed Team Captain / Choirboy days… Is it a coincidence. I don’t think so… Bucs need talented hungry football players…

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I love how people are such haters, especially on the guys that make money. It’s also great how people who have never met him judge his character and make the determination that he doesn’t want to play because he got hurt. I bet you wouldn’t say that to his face. You have absolutely zero evidence, but it’s just something you apparently want to be true. You guys must be so fun to hang around with. I bet the women just line up for someone like you.

  13. tmaxcon Says:

    Hawaiian Buc

how are you today sir… It’s a great day to be a buc fan! The future is bright. you should not let negative people get to you. Be more positive and open minded like me. you will feel better. Be positive!

  14. Buccfan37 Says:

Doug will be back for the home stretch, last 6-7 games or more. He is out with an injury of undetermined duration. I detect a pattern of hiding the injury.

  15. Fred E. Buc Says:

Setback doesn’t mean another month necessarily. It could mean he’s just not ready this week. Hamstrings are tricky, and they can feel good but give out right away. Look at this as more time to heal, and they didn’t build a gameplan around him. Here’s to hoping he’s back by the Thursday night game hosting the Dixie Chicks.

  16. 911bucs Says:

How many actually expected him back that soon? Not shocked in the least.

  17. 911bucs Says:

    Bradenton,
I’m with you on that 100% about injuries suffered in this team

  18. Fred E. Buc Says:

I’m not ready to say “Eureka! Look what I discovered!” because I know the coaches and players know a lot more than I do. But other than Raheem and now Dirk, I’ve always seen the players line up and go through their pre-game stretches as a team. Now, they just come out and do their own deal and pick up with drills. With the litany of sprains and strains and pulls, I can’t help but wonder if there is a connection here.

  19. Dick Butkiss Says:

Martin had a solid rookie year, nursed injuries year 2 and 3, and had a remarkable year 4. I am not surprised he is hurt right now. This is why you don’t pay guys based on their contract year. The entire length of the previous contract needs to be evaluated, not just the most recent season. Disappointing as a fan, but not shocked he is hurt right now.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

@Bradentonbucsfan….your right….first misdiagnosing sweezy….then Vjax playing on a bum knee since who knows when and now doug has a set back….we need to revamp our medical asap…..GO BUCS!!!

  21. Arealbucsfan Says:

And honestly I’m with @KnucknBuc. Two good seasons out 5. I didn’t really care that we resigned him. And how did he get a setback?! Dude has done Snot the whole dam time. So please explain this setback. I’m so tired of SH!T! Fire the dam doctors. And get rid of these expensive injury prone players. I want my players on the field not on the sidelines taking up cap space on someone worthy

  22. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

“Excuses are for losers” my old ball coach once said. So figure it out or we will find someone who will! Accountability. Go Bucs!

  23. Buc1987 Says:

I was a franchise tag fan.

    Everyone bellyached.

  24. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Again….8 different backs have AVERAGED over 100 yards for the first six games of this season.

I’m not going to join the hyperbole crowd and say good running backs are a dime a dozen…but IMHO the running game is far more dependent on the offensive line that the guy running behind it. Open the holes and Jaquizz can do the job.

Open the holes and Bobby Rainey can do the job.

If our OL plays well our running game will be fine. Again I really like Doug but how many times did he get caught from behind last year when other backs could have taken it to the house. How was he running at the start of this year?
As well as the line blocked for him which wasn’t that great.

  25. Cobraboy Says:

Being paid a lot of money and getting hurt are not in the same universes.

“Hurt” can happen to anyone who steps on the field, whether All-Pro or FA rook try-out…

  26. unbelievable Says:

Not surprising. Hamstrings always tricky and usually take a while. I saw the argument for the franchise tag, but that also leads to the possibility of him walking. No way to predict injuries, but Doug certainly has his history.

Re: run game in general, st. Pete is spot on. Dallas could plug almost any running back behind their o line and he would be in the top 10 of the league rushers. Then you put someone special back there, and watch out. Our oline needs to get beefed up in the offseason. Run blocking was improved last week but hard to gauge against a team like Carolina. Right now C and RT are the biggest needs. We’ll see how pamphile does the rest of the year.

  27. monk Says:

Hamstring injuries are rampant in the NFL. My theory is that squats, leg presses and other weight-based leg workouts result in muscle tightening as well as strength. Lighter weights and more flexiblility exercises would cut down on hamstring injuries. Tight muscles get stressed beyond their natural limits and result in injury. I’d like to hear from trainers and PT’s on this.
BTW, pectoral and bicep pulls and tears may also be caused in the same way.

  28. BucGator Says:

I have been told several times that Doug is a heavy drinker. No wonder he has soft tissue injuries.

  29. Doctor Stroud Says:

As I recall, Bill Parcells used to clear out the injured players from the locker room because it demoralized the healthy players. I tend to agree with that approach. Just tell the “walking wounded” to stay away from One Buc Place and the stadium until they get better. I’ll let you know when they can return.

  30. DanTheBucsFan(Atlanta) Says:

Did that “setback” involve a charity basketball game?

  31. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“I have been told several times that Doug is a heavy drinker. No wonder he has soft tissue injuries.”

    ——-

There it is! The good ‘ol “I’ve been told by several (credible) people speech! Because obviously most professional athletes don’t drink.

  32. PRBucFan Says:

He’s a weapon for us when healthy, he probably got reinjured from trying to come back before it was ready.

Come back at 100% and not a second before.

  33. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Hawaiian,

As John Mellancamp once sang….Aint that America for you and me.

No facts required…some people have played this card to a high level…

    I’m not saying it….but I’ve heard it…and from smart people…

Not that I’m saying it but I did read it on the internet…

    People are saying…not me…just saying I hear it…

It’s disgusting in sports, politics and life and is the mark of a horrible debater.
Fact free. I’m saying this or I’ve heard others say it ergo it’s true.

  34. The Buc Realist Says:

The Bucs are NOT cursed!!!! They just had mark dominik as gm for 5 years!!!!

  35. JonBuc Says:

As an economist, I can’t help but think of the incredible waste of salary this season on Sweezy, Jackson & Martin. Over 25 million for a few games and no touchdowns thus far. Yikes!

  36. Spacebuc Says:

What a load of bull chips.
I read somewhere, maybe even here, that Robert Ayers the toughest dude on the team bar none is DM 22.
But, no, you bunch of d bags say from All pro to a-hole.Pathetic.
I, for one, will proudly wear my 22 jersey at the Thursday night game!
    GO BUCS!

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Well, this is why I DID NOT want to pay him. Most everyone else here did, but I didn’t. Once again, I’m right. Eat me, people.

How long of a setback will this be?

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    BucGator Says
“I have been told several times that Doug is a heavy drinker. No wonder he has soft tissue injuries.”

You should be banned for claims like that. Or sued for slander.

  39. tmaxcon Says:

    Stpetebucsfan

be careful quoting Mellencamp wasn’t his keyboardist a world famous / fbi most wanted pedophile.

  40. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc Bonzai

Maybe he misheard that “dean martin” was a heavy drinker and thought he heard doug martin!!!!!!

  41. Kevin Says:

Yep I was a franchise tag fan as well….

  42. gotbbucs Says:

Never sign a RB to a 2nd contract that isn’t extremely team friendly.

It’ll be fun to watch him flounder through the next couple injury plagued years collecting huge checks.

  43. Issic Haggins Says:

Fred E Buc You R Correct : One Guy has a drill with the correct Phillups screw bit and the other guy has the same drill but the wrong bit ,”wrong guy ” strips a bunch of screws and doesn’t realize why !!! Sounds simple but the average person can’t figure it out!! Nor do many GMs or Owners really understand the current player !! It all looks the same but the results are much much different !!! With all the different supplements that tend to dewater muscles that are being used by the players it is crazy important to stay warm, loose , stretched and hydrated ; way way more important than 15 years ago . I would argue that a really good trainer could reduce injuries by 50 percent. I would also argue that seeing seven figure trainers may not be that far fetched as a really good one that can take charge may help keep more of your 125 million payroll on the field !! Right now the bucs prob have about 50 million in salary not playing!! Over half of their best players !!! Licht when you want some help just give a shout !!! Btw your trainer is very very important and it is evident ( this isn’t all by chance) that this team needs some 2016 athlete education !!!

  44. PRBucFan Says:

Wait your right because he pulled his hammy and will miss some time?

    lol bush league

  45. PRBucFan Says:

    Ms. Cleo… is that you?

  46. Trubucfan22 Says:

Im pretty sure i could run for 100+ yards against the 9ers defense. Quizz will do alright this week. But in the long run we do need to have Martin back. I do feel better about quizz being the back up rather than sims. Sims is trainwreck behind the LoS. while quizz is kind of a poor mans doug martin, short and stocky that can be elusive and powerful at the same time.

  47. KingBuc17 Says:

Agree “Trubucfan22 Says”: Just hope the set back is another 2 weeks not 4. would love him to come back for the last 7 games a go on a tear….I’m confident that Quizz and Barber can get us through the next 4 but Im more worried about WR2….

  48. Capt.Tim Says:

Im ussually pro player. But you cant ignore history
And I said this here , Numerous times, before we resigned Doug Martin

He had a great Rookie season. Nothing the next two years but lackluster play and IR time.

Great Contract Year( boy, isnt that common)

Gets big Payday- back on IR

This is such a common occurance in the NFL, no wonder ratings are down

The secret is, to have everyones contract year the same year!
The team will win the Superbowl.

Then rebuild from scratch. Most of those players wont play hard again, until next contract year. Let somebody else pay them big money to be on IR

    Definitely not our Fathers NFL

  49. Matthew Says:

I gave everyone the info on Martin I got yesterday prior to Joe or anyone else in the local media had it, & proved to be good. I’ll keep everyone updated if I hear more.

  50. D-Rome Says:

Now we all see why Lovie Smith was very cautious when it came to hamstring injuries. Players shouldn’t try to play through that kind of injury until they truly are 100%.

  51. D-Rome Says:

Well, it looks like Matthew got the scoop on thisyesterday. Kudos to you, sir.

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Look at it this way…I pointed out that Doug Martin was a 50-50 player…2 years of bad, 2 years of good, before he signed his deal.

Now, the scales are tilting toward 60 bad – 40 good.

    Changes perspective, doesn’t it?

  53. Bucdup08 Says:

Maybe if Doug stayed away from the SOHO nightlife “Josh Freeman” he may get healthy faster!! Just saying. I know they are humans but dude is out often for being “injured”. Accountability TAMPA…

  54. LakeLandBuc Says:

It’s amazing that people actually thought that Doug would be back on the field, after resting his hamstring for a few weeks after an major injury to his hamstring. Hamstring injuries can be mild to severe, Doug injury was not a mild strain. Mike Evans had a mild hamstring injury, and he missed a game. Doug injury is far more serious, you cannot predict a return for him.

  55. Brownlee Says:

I have read alot of passionate comments from a battle weary fan base (I am one too). It is frustrating to me after watching Iron Mike Alstott play for so many seasons and I can count his missed games on one hand……not saying anything directly or indirectly but its one of several things I think about after reading about Martin out again….

I’ve always heard hamstrings are frequent injuries for players not in great shape after off season, and/or they are not stretching out before all games and practices. Perhaps the Bucs should bring in yoga instructors. Simeon Rice swore by them and he’s another former Buc who played all the time.

    We’re missing something.
