Moore: Shoulders The Key

October 25th, 2016

jacquizzWho doesn’t love intelligent Xs and Os from a former Buccaneer with a whopping 16 years of NFL service?

Joe’s talking about glory days tight end Dave Moore, a 2006 Pro Bowler on special teams.

Moore peddles insurance these days and is the color man on the Buccaneers Radio Network. Speaking on WDAE-AM 620 this week, Moore explained his affection for Jacquizz Rodgers, everyone’s favorite 5-6 running back, who’s more durable than a wrecking ball.

“The one thing I like about him, he’s similar to Doug Martin in the fact that when he gets the ball, he never turns his shoulders to the sideline unless it’s obviously designed to run a sweep or get on the outside,” Moore said. “He keeps his shoulders square and he uses that little jump cut to be able to avoid penetration and cut back. And it gives him the ability, at any point, when something opens, to accelerate and get through the hole. So he has a similar style [to Martin].”

Moore remains a Martin believer and considers him bigger and stronger, but Moore acknowledges Rodgers has the subtle skills of the greats.

“Rodgers is so good and kind of tucking back behind there, staying north and south, and then coming out of that crease when he has the opportunity,” Moore said.

Joe can’t get too hot in the pants for Rodgers. He’s been dominant against two garbage defenses (yes, Carolina was garbage) after a career as a change-of-pace back. But a big game Sunday for Rodgers and Joe will be ordering a No. 32 “JACQUIZZ” jersey.

Its just a really nice change to have the next man up actually come in and do a more than good job. Im still waiting on and hoping Martin comes back and can dominate. But it sure is nice knowing Jaquizz is there if we need him

Raiders run defense is meh, so let’s hope he’s poised for another big day! I wouldn’t expect 200+ yards again, but a cool 120 should suffice.

This should actually be a very good but tough game, the Raiders and Bucs are pretty evenly matched in several areas, including points given up per game.

But the Raiders have the edge in points scored, along with less turnovers and more experienced players.

Bucs Defense will need to switch between doubling Cooper and Crabtree and make Carr eat some dirt!

Doug likes to explode into holes and tackles

Jaq cuts back against the grain. There was a few where he hit the middle and bounced around the end. Ant smith had a similar cutback

Its tough to put a big hit against cutpack runners. The tacklers are always imbalanced with their legs and reaching with their arms to tackle

2 of the best curt warner of seattle and curtis martin had long and relatively injury free careers

  5. Doctor Stroud Says:

Last week, the Jaguars, with Chris Ivory at RB, ran only five times but for 48 yards, so they showed that it is possible to run against the Raiders’ defense. However, they fell behind early and went away from the run game (sound familiar?). The Bucs cannot afford another slow start.

We picked him up off of the street, he’s had plenty of time to rest those weary legs. He’ll be fine . plus Peyton Barber got a few carries last time so expect him to contribute a little bit more on sunday.

Always giving football strategies that doesn’t make any sense. I’ve let the last few go but calling Curt Warner “durable” is where I draw the line. He blew out his knee his 2nd year in the league and was never even close to the player he was the year before when he was AFC Rookie of the Year.

As for cutback runners never being hit square. That’s a load of crap too. Dancers like Sanders, Dunn, and Martin don’t get hit square because opposing players are just focused on getting them down to the ground, cutback runners like Curt Warner was, Terrell Davis, Marshall Faulk, and others took some hellacious hits BECAUSE they cutback into tacklers. Gliders like Marcus Allen, Emmitt Smith, and Tiki Barber ran with their eyes and never seemed to take a good lick.

You really need to go back and look at some of the “strategy” and football “insight” you’ve been writing about. You’re way off base more often than not.
