“I Would ‘Eric Hipple’ His Ass”

October 22nd, 2016
Scot Brantley wants a piece of him.

Ex-Bucs LB wants a piece of him.

If only Scot Brantley could turn back the clock.

One of the most ferocious-hitting linebackers in Bucs history, Brantley seems to be chomping at the bit trying to find a magic elixir so he can become 30 years younger and take the field at Levi’s Stadium tomrrow. He openly drooled at the thought of knocking Sideshow Bob into the middle of next week while speaking on the “Ron and J.P.” show yesterday, heard on WDAE-AM 620 yesterday.

You know, Sideshow Bob, the National Anthem-kneeling, history-challenged, Supreme Court Justice-sparring, Fidel Castro-loving 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

“I tell ya what: Colin Kaepernick, if I am a defensive player, I’m getting 15 yards,” Brantley said. “I would clothesline his ass. Or if he is going to the sidelines and is stepping out of bounds, I’m pushing his ass over and into the wall. I will take my 15 yards and my fine. I’m taking him out. I would Eric Hipple his ass.”

The Eric Hipple reference is to the former Lions quarterback. Brantley, a Bucs starter at middle linebacker through much of the 1980s, splashed him so hard after he rolled out of the pocket to the sideline, local authorities likely found Hipple’s teeth on Dale Mabry Highway. It was one of the most bone-rattling hits Joe has ever seen. Video is below.

Later in the interview, Brantley softened his stance, only a little, saying, “I was kind of kidding. I wouldn’t want to hurt somebody.” Brantley also said he would be very surprised if someone on the Bucs defense doesn’t already have a mental bulls-eye planted on Sideshow Bob.

The interview in its entirety is below. Audio courtesy of Joe’s friends at WDAE-AM 620.

Bettting line is san fran is favorite -1 over tampa

Lets see how good the bookies are

    Linemakers are pretty good

  2. canadian bucsfan Says:

I hope someone plants him into the ground sunday. The world cup of hockey was on not long ago and team Canada’s coach was asked what he would do if one of his players sat through the anthem?. He kinda laughed and said we don’t need to worry about that were Canadian.
I think Colin Kapernik should try and make millions and be a role model in a different country.

  3. Bculaw Says:

Funny that the last thing the announcer said in tat video was “a good clean shot by Brantley.” Today, he is getting 15 yards, a significant fine, and possibly a suspension. In college, he’s ejected for targeting. Times change, I guess.

  4. Eastsidebuc Says:

Lol at the colonists y’all need Jesus to help you with your hate. I’ll pray for y’all

  5. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Yeah Buclaw today that would be not just 15 but a fine and maybe suspension. Then again players today are not envious of the scrambled brain poor Scott has after all those vicious hits.

But hey…Scott knew what he was getting into and who wouldn’t trade a brain for ten years of great hits. At 68 I really regret not being a pro football star in my youth so I too could wonder what the hell day it is…Jim McMahon is never really sure.

  6. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Nice hit! In today’s NFL I can’t imagine what that fine would be. I miss those nasty hits

  7. BKNYfootballhead Says:

Joebucsfan…for the Archie Bunker in us all.

“A new high in lowness”, he once said.

  8. Dark Wing Buc Says:

this is sad. You guys want to hurt someone because his views don’t align with yours. That’s fascism. Ironically the cause of this hate is a man excercising his American rights. Fascism against the American way and domocrey sounds more like the way of Isis than patriotism.

  9. JMN Says:

That hit with multiple yellow streaks flashing across your screen? That is when the NFL was good! Way too soft now and with all the flags every other play, no wonder NFL ratings are dropping (side show bob is also a reason). I find myself only watching Bucs games in their entirety now. I used to watch most games on TV from start to finish. Not any longer cause I get annoyed with the flags.

  10. R.O. Says:

“American” rights? People all over the world have the same rights as “America” most people have more Rights and Freedoms then us “Americans”. But I’m sure you only speak “American”.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Guys, too much political B.S. … ignore the trolls. Brantley’s hit was a clean hit, yesterday or today. John Lynch delivered many similar ones. So did Hardy Nickerson. But keep in mind that Hipple was 6’2″ & weighed under 195 lbs. Brantley went 6’1″& weighed 230 lbs. That 35 lbs difference makes a big difference.

Lavonte at 6’1″ & weighing 233 lbs hitting Cam Newton at 6’6″ & weighing 260 lbs more than likely won’t have the same results.

  12. BKNYfootballhead Says:

    @ Defense Rules

It’s safe to say Joe is the one trolling here. This is literally a hit piece.

  13. DB55 Says:

Fun fact: on Thursday a 66 year old handicapped women was shot and killed by police. Sounds weird and unimaginable right?

Let’s try, on Thursday a 66year old handicapped black women was shot twice in the chest and killed by police. Now that’s much better and easier to believe right?

Yea so a 66 year old handicapped black women with mental illness was shot twice in the chest by a police SGT. She dropped a pair of scissors but when she picked up a baseball bat the SGT shot her dead. The lady suffered from schizophrenia and probably thought she was being attacked. But whatever one less N* off the street right?

Alright Everybody now. “O beautiful for spacious skies,
    For amber waves of grain,
    For purple mountain majesties
    Above the fruited plain!
    America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood. FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA”.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

If the news were to report everytime a white or a black person is shot by police, they’d have no time to report anything else. Yes I truly believe that.

An unarmed redneck gets shot by police in Florida. Does it make national news? Of course not. No one really cares. Why? Cause he’s a redneck.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

The news media has an agenda, and it’s not good. They report what they want to report on. Cherrypicking what they want and disregarding what they don’t want you to hear or see.

I don’t even watch cable news anymore and with good reason.

  17. BucinJAX Says:

DB55, I’ll listen to your arguments when you’ve spent a decade or more facing the threats and split-second decisions our officers live through and must make everyday.

  18. BucinJAX Says:

    Thanks Joe, for the slogan.

There are exceptions to every rule. I’ll make an exception to my rule of never wanting to hurt someone. Every defensive play of the BUCs game on Sunday I’ll be chanting, “Eric Hipple’ His Ass”.

    Gonna be fun.

  19. DB55 Says:

    Jax

My father spent a decade making those decisions yet he never shot anyone. Certainly not a 66 year old women who neighbors called cops to get her some help.

It’s sad that you guys can even try to defend that.

  20. BigHogHaynes Says:

That’s what you call playing the game DIRTY! if I were Colin and linebackers tried to take me out, I’d show up at his front door with the GLOCK chocked full of 9mm hollow points, I wouldn’t kill him but it would be season ending or maybe even career ending, this great nation is crazy as hell, so you have to get crazy every time you step out the door! No brother is going to try with intent to hurt Colin, but one of you European Immigrants might try that sh*t, and the league should suspend his ass for the rest of the year and next year also! PLAY HARD BUT PLAY FAIR BUCS!

  21. DB55 Says:

    87

My reply to you won’t post. Idk.

  22. unbelievable Says:

DB55 you can never win with some of the folks around here. They’ll find a way to justify every killing no matter what.

  23. Louis Friend Says:

The way some people get worked up about Kap’s protest is incredible. Advocating violence against a man for exercising his right to free speech. Or in this case, just kneeling and not saying a word. I’ve read people in these comment sections hoping he’s legs are broken, that he’s hit so hard he’s forced to stop playing, etc. You guys only like flag kissing kinds of patriots huh? Sad.

I don’t agree with what he’s doing, or how the media has overblown it. But he’s got every right to do it until his employer tells him to stop doing it on company time. Where’s the NFL and SF 49er’s in all of that? They could tell him to stop it and he’d have no choice. Want to blame someone? Blame them for allowing it.

  24. Pruritus Ani Says:

Ah yes….. The free speech debate. What people forget is with is that with free speech there will also be consequences especially if the “speech” or in this case a protest is outside of what is considered societal norms. Some people are going to like what you say or do, and some aren’t. In the end, there are always consequences for what is said and or done.

It was a clean hit by the way. I wish the defense would target every opponent that way regardless if they kneel for the national anthem or not.

  25. DB55 Says:

Agreed it was a clean hit. Shoulder to shoulder, he might have been a half step out of bounds though.

  26. Piratic Says:

Get your head out of your BigHogHaynes.

  27. "That guy" Says:

    What a shot.

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I predict 6 sacks on him.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The solution to stopping Colin and these other players from taking a knee is simple. The networks need to keep the cameras off the players during the anthem.

If the players are not getting the exposure, they will have no reason to do it.

    Problem solved.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

People are straying from the real issue here. The issue is not the police-related shootings. It’s the taking a knee during the anthem.

I’d be fine with Colin and the other players uniting with a certain gesture after TDs…maybe take a knee in the End Zone…to get the attention to the issue. That would make a lot more sense.

The insult to the country is where the issue is.

  31. SB with Jameis Says:

I was sitting second row 30 yardline for that game. I will never forget it.

  32. Rrsrq Says:

I guess based on what these folks believe, they should let Joah Brown kick against the Rams and rough the kicker, oh but wait, he’s ….., never mind, he’s an American Football Player

  33. Pit Says:

Since my comment won’t post for some reason I want to thank Bonzai for stating the Obvious and I don’t understand why ppl don’t take their head out of their as* and see what we are trying to say.

  34. buccfan305 Says:

    @ Bonzai

So the fact that the anthem supports killing slaves, that’s not an insult huh??? Funny how the narrative changes for some ppl.

Freedom and Justice for all ???

  35. Fred E. Buc Says:

Awesome article…Manchild Colin in Santa Freakin Clara needs to be reminded about respecting the National Anthem on our time, and protesting on his OWN time. And Buc time…is to keep him from kneeling down by leaving him pancaked on his…backside.

  36. buccfan305 Says:

I wanna know how many folk on here that try and justify all the police shooting. How many of you will trade places with a black man or women in this country.

Joe you should run a pole to see how many ppl would jump at the chance to be black. Let’s see how many ppl who take it sence it not that bad and blacks just wine and complain. Of course you guys will come up with a bunch of reason to Justify why you wouldn’t. If it’s not that bad give it a shot.

  37. PD Says:

    @DB55

How much blame due assign to BLM for the killing of an innocent victim?

Let’s consider how her murder advances the narrative and cause. Because who gains when an innocent Black Women or Black Person in general is shot by a Police officer. It’s not the Police.

BLM could care less about Black Lives unless those lives are taken by a person in blue.
So Who exactly is cheerful and WHO is thinking not again.

  38. BigHogHaynes Says:

@ petri-dish (AKA) Piratic: we all love the perks of this “great nation”, some here worry about the so called justification of a police killing or shooting or whatever you want to call it, my worry is that it will never stop, that brings me to the protest, a freedom we all have, a right we can all exercise peacefully! All Colin is asking is that we hold police accountable for their actions! One thing I do know Pitri-Dish (AKA) Piratic these unarmed killings will not continue to happen without repercussions!…….BLM!

  39. BucinIL Says:

It’s interesting that people here are saying that they want Kaepernick to be hurt because he has different views than you…but some of these same people were willing to give guys like Greg Hardy a second chance for physically assaulting women or complain about the organization getting rid of cab driver clubbing Aqib Talib.

There is no insult to the country by taking a knee during the anthem. Consider that players weren’t even on the field during the anthem until 2009. Besides that, the implication that the flag is seen in the same way by all across the country is ignorant, arrogant and completely dismissive of this country’s history, as well as the many currently present problems.
