Derrick Brooks Had Flashbacks

Derrick Brooks speaks

Iconic Derrick Brooks was hearing ’90s music in his head this week.

No. 55 was watching his beloved Bucs on Monday Night Football and saw an offense pounding the rock and “position the kicker to go in and close it.”

Ahh, sweet memories — the kind Team Glazer dreamed of when it hired Lovie Smith.

Brooks explained during Tampa-2 on WDAE-AM 620 with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig.

“They set the tempo and they stayed the course. They did not get away from it,” Brooks said of Dirk Koetter’s game plan. “And again he shortened the game. Reminded me a lot of game 20 years ago (laughs) 16 years ago. Shortening the game, limiting the opportunities, especially on the road. And getting in manageable situations. … They did a good job of it.”

Brooks said Jacquizz Rodgers’ 30 carries represented balance that was “much needed” in the offense.

Interesting note: remember before the Bucs-Rams game; Keyshawn Johnson was on Los Angeles sports radio talking about how Koetter needed to commit to 30 carries to get his quarterback thriving again.

Hey Aunt Geraldine… look at that picture above. That’s what a real captain looks like.

  2. q Says:

well said ray…DB55 set the tone every week ….he never had a tackle or an interception and said to himself okay I did my job let me get out of his game maybe ill just say my calf hurts

  3. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Good to hear from our very own Brooks!!

  4. Fire the glazers Says:

I still think it’s a bit funny that without McCoy and the ghost of former great lavonte David, we pulled off a victory against a talented team. Newtonless or not, that team is built firm.

  5. LakeLandBuc Says:

Dirk Koetter is a PASS HAPPY OC, just take a close look at his history.

and LakeLandBuc is a dinosaur who thinks Dungy’s offenses were exciting…

Speaking of stats you might want to research the last 10 years before you spout off… sure if you are going to include all the back to super bowl 1 you maybe right but that is irrelevant today with the rule changes and the philosophical changes in the game. Modernize sir!

I will never understand how people can take a post about HOF’er Mr. Derrick Brooks talking about the OFFENSE and turn it into an indictment of a DT who most likely won’t even have his name in the Ring of Honor (please prove me wrong GMC!). Derrick Brooks is incomparable!!! The point is automatically moot when comparing him to anyone NOT in the HOF. STOP IT!

I don’t care who you are, you HAVE to have a run-game to win football games in this league, especially with a young QB

Unfortunately GMC will not be able to prove you wrong any time soon. He will be going in for a complete Labia reconstruction after his calf boo boo heals.

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

@tmax- LOL!!! Issues, man you have issues!!!!

  11. Chris Says:

Lol Tmax, will I get moderated for a lol?

  12. Chris Says:

Think I’ll just put Curly Joe as my sign on. Better be careful it’s not allowed to pick on the most disruptive force in the NFL Tmax. Also, can not compare him to any of our great defensive players of the past, it’s just not fair to Geraldine Beckham

  13. Chris Says:

Thanks Tmax, that’s the best laugh I’ve had all day, needed it

  14. Ray Rice Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Aunt Geraldine Beckham! LMFAO!!!!!

  15. DB55 Says:

    Beckham, nice!!!!

  16. Turd Koetter Says:

Love how you computer pu$$ies sit back and criticize a 6’4″ 300lb man. Would never say it to the man’s face. Sit there with your #40 jerseys and sip on your Tab…I’m a tough computer cowboy! Colossal pu$$ies.

  17. tmaxcon Says:

    Turd Koetter

are your little feelings hurt because people are tired of your favorite player being a wuss….

  18. Chris Says:

Turd Koetter, made up a name, hidden veil of racism thrown by saying we’re all wearing Alstott jerseys . Too bad I compared him to any good- great defensive player for the Buccaneers, all of whom are black. Dip spit , who’s the computer tough guy. I’ve face bigger and scarier guys than calf strain McCoy.

  19. Chris Says:

I love guys who talk spit about other guys on blogs, calls them p….ies and have no idea who they’re talking too

    Is that you Geraldine?

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

Brooks/Sapp/Lynch..living proof you do not have to have a no 1 top draft pick at QB to win. And you do not have to have a great QB to win a superbowl. But you do..have to have a great Defense to win one. For some reason..over the years, Our Bucs forgot that!

  26. Eric Says:

one time my finger cramped up scrolling down the comment section.

Thought about IR, but toughed it out.

  27. THETRUTH Says:

Somehow actual players in NFL rate McCoy in Too 100 every year. Yet some buc fan think they know game better. I will stick to what coaches and players say that actually know the game and they all say he is disruptive and top 3 tackle. Yes tackle buc fan who think he should post stats of a DE, cause they don’t know the difference.

The day McCoy is gone these same genius fans will be complaining of lack of play on DL And how we need to depth and draft a DL.

Twisting your ankle and walking to the couch to sit and watch a game doesn’t make u tough as some of these guys posting do here. I think serious injury and getting slammed ever okay by a 300 pound man would.

  28. Old Time Buc Says:

THETRUTH: Couldn’t agree more. Some of these guys complain about everything. Before you go and trade McCoy or release him: who are you going to bring in to replace him and how good is he really? Not many better but if you can get a great deal what’s wrong with who they (any team) are willing to let go?
We’ve been stuck by too many who are hiding injuries.

  29. q Says:

lmao tell me how many full seasons McCoy has played in his NFL career vs how many games missed please….id rather have someone who is consistent and shows up that is not a glass body

    GMC is AWESOME!

Anybody hating on GMC is a sadistic, sick, toxic, PYSCHO!!

Every team in the NFL game plans for him!

He played the entire season last year with a serious shoulder injury.

Reading comments on here reminds me of why someone has toxic as Donald Trump is popular with 40% of Americans.

You guys need to learn a little about brotherly love and RESPECT!
