Brent Grimes And Picks

October 16th, 2016
Getting the job done.

Getting the job done.

Joe knew it was coming a couple of weeks ago and it did.

Bucs fans were awfully grumpy when Aqib Talib and the Broncos came to town and once again started beating their favorite piñata, former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik.

Why? Because it was Dominik who was responsible for unloading Talib.

Far too many Bucs fans have short memories. With Tampa Bay, Talib was hardly a Pro Bowl corner (remember how Eli Manning carved up Talib as if he was Myron Lewis?) and did everything he could to be a knucklehead.

Hell, even Talib admitted to Joe last year at Super Bowl Media Night that he burned all his chances by being a constant fool if not tool.

Well, it seems the Bucs have just as good of a corner now, and his name is Brent Grimes.

Grimes, who saved the Bucs last week with a key tackle at the goal line followed by a pick in the end zone at Carolina, has as many picks as Talib. That’s right.

Since the start of 2013, Grimes has 14 picks, the same total as Talib, and only three NFL players have more. So it is not like the Bucs are hurting at corner with Talib long ago in the rearview mirror.

Love those aerials. Both he and VH3 give us some amazingly athletic jumps. It’s great to watch their athleticism. Just icing when they give us a win.

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Aqib Talib would still be getting into trouble if he was still in Tampa. It took him getting sent packing to get through to him.

Most of us felt that would be the case at the time. We hated giving up a decent CB, but for his own good, he needed the life lesson.

Sometimes we have to put our selfish wants as fans aside for the better good. This was such a case.

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

    WTF! Is this for real?

Talib is a top 3 shut down pro bowl corner in his prime…

Grimes is an old aged cornerback with diminishing skills. At present time Grimes s more popular being married to a outspoken wife and a tax cheat than anything

    Must be bye week

  4. R.O. Says:

Granted Grimes is at the end of his career. However, AT is closer to the end of his as well then the “Prime” at 30. Nice try though.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I never missed Talib….he was a bum here & everybody knows it. Penn & Zuttah on the other hand were good players & good characters….no reason to let them go.
We have finally rebuilt our Oline and have some great depth….

This team is missing the following:

    Speed WR
    Dominant TE
    Safety (2 each)
    DE

  6. Issic Haggins Says:

Grimes has been around the play allot, but short of the pick last weekend he has at times been abused this year !!

  7. CalBucsFan Says:

Anybody know what’s happening with Banks?

  8. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampabaybucfan

you left RB and DT off the list which are equally weak position groups. 2 of the fragile 3 at DT are already out. Doug martin can not be counted on. He can’t stay on the field. Funny how he can tough it out when he needs to get paid then reverts right back to 50/50 dougie.

  9. buccfan305 Says:

If you accout for all the times Grimes has been burnt for aTD or big play this year, his few picks this year don’t look so good.

Picks taken vs TD’S givin up his probably -8

  10. ElioT Says:

It took Talib going to a top notch franchise like the Patriots to change him and get him to take his craft seriously.

The Patriots don’t give a s**t who you are, if you want to win, put your chin strap on and let’s go. If you’re not serious about winning, get the f**k out of here.

The Bucs are still light years away from that kind of mentality and culture; thanks in large part to countless HORRIBLE personnel decisions by Mr. Dominik.

Your “Rockstar” was a horrible GM and his repeated errors set this franchise back years and years.

Such a Rockstar that he can’t get another job in the NFL or even a decent broadcasting gig.

    Kobe strikes again

Did he fall off his horse?

  14. unbelievable Says:

INTs are only a small part of the story.

Talib is hands down a much better corner than Grimes.

Doesn’t really matter, we have who we have. If Grimes can continue to make plays on bigger WRs for the rest of the season I will be happy.

  15. SOEbuc Says:

Maybe with Talib in Denver now, that weed has calmed his nerves to where he’s not trying to stab taxi drivers

  16. SOEbuc Says:

^ but the weed hasn’t helped Aqib from being a gigantic a$$who!e ^

  17. ptwalk Says:

I can’t believe anybody in their right mind would say Grimes is as good as Talib.

  18. PRBucFan Says:

Except one is at the end of his career and one is in his prime.

  19. orlbucfan Says:

Hey Joe, (great golden oldie tune BTW) 🙂

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH BANKS?? HE NEEDS TO BE OUT THERE PLAYING. Talib was a big waste of character time here. Good riddance!!
