“Who The Hell Do These Bucs Think They Are?”

September 20th, 2016
Ashamed of the Bucs.

Ashamed of lax effort Sunday.

If there was one person locally who would put the Bucs in their place for throwing up all over the birdcage of the Cardinals in suburban Phoenix Sunday, it would be the Dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Joe’s good friend “The Big Dog,” Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620.

Duemig took a personal affront to the news that the Bucs might have skated through practices last week with heads swelled over beating the Dixie Chicks on the road.

As one could expect, Duemig let the Bucs have it.

“Who the hell do these Bucs think they are?” Duemig wondered aloud. … “You have visions of playoff fairies dancing in your head after one week — one week! Really? Really? You have been a cellar dweller for how many straight years? And now you think everyone is going to lay down for you and let you win. Remember what I always say: It is real easy to lose in sports. You just show up. And get beat. It doesn’t take any work to do that. You just show up and lose.”

Duemig has a valid point. As Demar Dotson and Joe Hawley told Joe in the locker room Sunday after the game, too many got high on their Atlanta win and forgot they had to do more than just show up in Arizona. Even Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said he saw warning signs when the team had a sloppy practice Wednesday.

Didnt koetter talk about we should talk about superbowls last week

The honeymoon for hc koetter is over…the tampa reporters is going to rip him a new 1 in the bye week if we go 1-4

**the Teflon jason gump surprisingly still is the almighty

  2. Clodhopper Says:

I just recently found Big Dog on the podcast app. I heard this one last night. I gotta admit, I never really cared for him from listening to Joe on his show. But these monologues are a very good listen. I also agree with him more often than not.

  3. "The kevin" Says:

He’s just an angry old man that sounds like he hates life. Always sounds pissed off and revels in the bucs failures. Can’t stand him.

  4. "The kevin" Says:

Bucs are young. Things will get better

  5. MarineBuc Says:

People actually still listen to him?

  6. meh Says:

They’re “youngry”, right kevin? I’ve been hearing they’re young for over half a decade now.

  7. Old Time Buc Says:

Actually he is boring at times but the one thing he does is tell it straight and most people want the sugar coating they’re used to. He always has the facts to back up his statements. Not exciting, sure, but truthful.

  8. buccfan305 Says:

At least our Bucs know where they F#@ked up….now go fix it ASAP… go hard in practice. …no excuses.

  9. rrsrq Says:

This game against the Rams will test their mental aptitude. Need to get this home winning streak going. Next week against the Broncos, call up a cabbie to pick up Aqib Talib and a few of his friends. Yes they are home, but they have to sit around for a while before the game starts. Whatever Jameis needs to do to get his throws back on target, he needs to be doing Sunday morning. They should beat the Rams, but we thought that before.

  10. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

The Bucs are going to roll the Rams this weekend, go to 2-1, and stay in first place in the NFC South. It is just how the NFL works. This is a good young team. They were facing a pissed off Super Bowl contender on the road and laid an egg. Burn the game film and move on. We are still a stud safety and WR away from being a playoff contender but this year will be competitive.

  11. Waterboy Says:

How many days did they practice last week? I know they talked about leaving for AZ on Friday and Monday’s are normally off days.

  12. Patrick in VA Says:

@Old Time Buc – Couldn’t be further from the truth. He rarely has any facts to back up what he says. Often, it sounds like he didn’t even watch the games. He rarely knows who is on the team and he’s more excited about the fact that he has relationships with people who know what’s going on than he is in actually knowing what’s going on himself.

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

Our Bucs got their//Electric spanking this past week. Their..wake up call. They ran into a buzzsaw. And actually it might have been good. They are now..back down to earth. Ain’t nobody easy to beat in this league. Even teams without an offense like the Rams. They got a monster Defense. So I do believe we will see a fired up Buc team come Sunday. Especially it being the home opener.Usually when a team gets embarrassed like we were, they come back the next week with intense effort. And we are gonna need it against the stout Rams. Game will not be easy. But I think we pull this one out.

  14. "The kevin" Says:

    @meh

No I’m not on the youngry train. I’m just saying it’s got to get better eventually.

    ____________

Even that is questionable. The best was about 10 or 15 years ago when he broke the news from one of his best inside sources that Debartolo was buying the Bucs.

  16. LargoBuc Says:

One of the few on the station whose opinion I actually care about and want to hear.

  17. Patrickbucs Says:

He has the best opening monologues locally of any radio host IMO. He also has great shows and guests about betting, fantasy, and other really good guests especially on Friday. He has excellent knowledge on both football and hockey otherwise he would of been gone a long time ago. I may or may not agree with everything he says but isn’t that kind of the point in sports and life?

  18. LargoBuc Says:

And he’s right. The fact that this team’s ego interfered with their practice and game prep, that falls on Koetter.

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

Good for a few laughs. The people who call in are the best part.

“He’s just an angry old man that sounds like he hates life. Always sounds pissed off and revels in the bucs failures.”

Given your history of posting, “Kevin”, I don’t think you have room to talk.

  21. BucinJAX Says:

“The Dean” don’t talk so swell, especially with all his filler phrases, as far as that’s concerned.

  22. Tom Edrington Says:

Steve is pretty darn good at what he does, otherwise he wouldn’t have been on the air as long as he has, notice how many other “hosts” have come and gone from the other time slots over the years.

He’s there for a reason. Good ratings, good observations. Some bozo called yesterday and said he’d get him (Steve) fired because (Steve) wasn’t a Bucs fan….hilarious….Steve will be here for as long as he wants.

  23. Stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m not going to say anything about Duemig other than IMO he’s far better on the NHL and golf than the NFL. YMMV

  24. simpleasthat Says:

that pretty much sums up this past debacle.

  25. "The kevin" Says:

    @bonzai

I have a great history. What you talkin bout Willis?

  26. DiscountBucsFan08 Says:

    “”Bucs Fan Since ’76″”

Bucs Fan Since 76 I really like what you said man. By far the most honest and truthful response to this entire post! I totally agree with you on how this is the NFL, you get blowout to a good team and everyone thinks your garbage. You come back the next week strong and redeem yourself and everyone forgets the loss the week before. Bucs are still a tough team, we just have some work to do now, need to play the Rams tough, REAK TOUGH

  27. DanTheBucsFan(Atlanta) Says:

Love how Steve laid into them… even better was the host of Bucs Unsensored. Though, I don’t know if any players or coaches even listen to these guys or if they put any stock into what they say in the unlikely event that they do.

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

Ditto on BF76 too. I would say that VJax needs to wake up.
