Joe was unaware at the time, but it seems the Bucs inadvertently put together a football instructional video last night for generations of coaches to use from the NFL all the way down to the high school level.

It seems the clinical video the Bucs produced was how not to run a two-minute drill.

That is the conclusion from John Breech of CBS Sports. No NFL team can be that bad on purpose, he writes.

If a football coach at any level needs to give his team a lesson in how NOT to run a two-minute drill, that lesson should be easy to teach from now on. All he needs to do is press play on a video that shows the ending of Sunday’s game between the Buccaneers and the Rams. …

The Bucs quarterback admitted that he probably should’ve thrown the ball in the end zone. “I was just trying to bait them and get closer to the end zone,” Winston said. “In that moment, I’ve just got to give somebody a chance in the end zone. That was just dumb on my part.”

Although Winston admitted it was dumb, it wasn’t as dumb as Tampa Bay’s clock management. If the Bucs — who had a timeout left WHEN THE GAME ENDED — had used a timeout at any point earlier in the drive, they would’ve had at least 15 extra seconds to work with. Instead, they showed football coaches across America how not to run a two-minute drill.

You know, since the Bucs stink so much, so badly over the past few years, this is something Team Glazer could hang its hats on.

If you are going to be a garbage team and be adept at choking away leads and lead the NFL in losing at home, then you may as well produce a series of “How Not To” videos and make some cash off them.

You know, “Football for Dummies?”

    Its absolutely mind blowing to me how we are 55 yards away with 2 minutes remaining and 2 time outs and we run out of time. Maybe they should hire an expert football fan like myself to be the game manager! BTW….The main reason Mike Smith is no longer a head coach is because of game management. Just ridiculous. And don’t even get me started on our pathetic 2nd round kicker. We sure could’ve used some more depth on either line last night with that 2nd round pick that cost us the game.

    Personally, I like Mike Smith, but facts are facts. Tampa has given up more plays over 40 yards in 3 games, then we did all the season before. Koetter is great with offense, let us all hope that Mike Smith was not a mistake on the other side of the ball.

    That last drive was very robotic. As if Koetter made it clear he was not to run or call a timeout. Like both decisions were taken out of his hands. Last year, he easily would have took off running on that final play.

    Total meltdown? A bit melodramatic on the part of CBS Sports I’d say. Bucs had several opportunities to win the game in the last 2 mins but couldn’t connect. Jameis said afterwards ‘It’s on me’. Time management in the last 30 secs or so left a lot to be desired, since Bucs ended up with 1 timeout left. Koetter said ‘It’s on me’. Losing that game stunk because it was very winnable, but I saw a lot of plays that contributed to the loss big-time much earlier in the ballgame.

    I am unable to post using Att Modem…..have tried 2….used to work until I was sent to the cooler….hasn’t worked since.
    Any help from you or others would be greatly appreciated.

    I will give Koetter a pass on this mistake for the following 10 reasons:

    1. I like him.
    2. Everyone makes mistakes, even stupid ones.
    3. He’s a rookie head coach.
    4. There were other reasons we lost the game.
    5. I trust he won’t make this mistake again.

    There was one play where Jameis juked about 5 defenders in the pocket. Amazing play. Showed a lot of agility. If I were Dirk is think about incorporating the qb option ala Cam Newton while Dougie is out. Add another dimension to the O.

    Lets place the blame squarely on where it belongs..Coach Koetter! All of you//jumped for joy, sang stars and stripes forever, anointed him as the 2nd coming. So you wanted him, deal with him. At least with me he gets final words and a last supper after next season. You said (including you there Joe) and various buc media outlets..this defense would make Lovies defense look sick. Well, Lovies defense looked way better than that Sh..I witnessed yesterday. I told you people 10 months ago Verner, Conte and Banks needed pink slips.     This team is just lacking front line talent and quality depth at almost every position group.

    Needs:
    1.) DE – Need more than Spence, Ayers, Gholston and Jones.
    2.) S – Conte is water trash, McDougald isn’t a starter.
    3.) WR – Evans is all we got, Hump is strictly a slot WR.
    4.) TE – Too predictable, need one who can catch and block.
    5.) DT – McCoy could use a partner and a break every now and then.
    6.) RB – Need another every down back.
    7.) K – Roberto sucks.
    8.) SLB – Smith is old and invisible.
    9.) Depth – Paper thin everywhere except O-Line and that wont last forever.

    That’s more holes than a Cambodian whore house.

    Maybe a couple surprise unknowns will rise from the shadows, but I’m not counting on it.

    first as joe pointed out earlier jameis dropped back 60plus times….60….does dirk even believe in running the ball?….don’t want to hear the doug excuse…you have to run the ball to keep the defense honest and prevent your qb to get hit….

    After sims got tackled in bounds I yelled “timeout timeout!!!”, but then I paused and second guessed myself thinking Dirk had a plan, maybe leaving as little time on the clock as possible if we scored that way the rams couldn’t kick a last second field goal. Boy was I wrong. I’m disappointed Winston didn’t just call the timeout himself. The way dirk said he was busy looking for the next play makes me wonder if he forgot he was the headcoach and it’s his responsibility. He’s been a coordinator for so long..

    Any one of the above things could have won the game. And should have. But Dirk is a smart man and he will learn. The time outs were a cluster but for the most part, he called a great game.

    2nd year Jameis found the right guy all day long but missed him a few times.

    Mike Smith is running a brand new defensive scheme with some players that may not be right for it. People are going to miss assignments.

    Let’s just take a deep breath and watch a few more games…….

    That’s my theory anyways. He had to have been aware of the situation. He really doesn’t seem as inept as the last 2 coaches.

    Lets consider a few things….

    1) Our starting DE / Free agent was not on the field.

    2) Our starting RB was not on the field.

    3) Our big free agent signing Guard was not on the field

    4) This is a game we should have and could have WON

    5) Our next two games should be our hardest games at HOME and AWAY (No offense KC)

    6) I believe in momentum, our team had it just before the rain delay.

    7) Our secondary needs better communication, missed assignments, players out of position hopefully this gets fixed ASAP

    8) IF the Saints win, we are still in first place (Can’t believe I am saying this but “GO SAINTS”!)

    9) I believe in Dirk Koetter

    10) I believe in JAMEIS

    Last night’s game down by 5 the defense stopped them deep inside the twenty for force a punt!!!! The offense got the ball inside the redzone then running 5 plays inside the redzone!!!!! they were in it!!!! They were in this game!!!

    They were no where close 4 games ago!!!! Clean up just 2 of the many mistakes and they win!!!!!

    Well given that every tipped ball has bounced for either a pick six or great field position…every fumble has been lost…one of them bouncing perfectly for another TD return.

    Someone talked about momentum at the end of yesterday’s game and how the lightning came at just the wrong time.

    So there it is. All of you Joes included should just give up! I cannot for the life of me understand why people would be talking about the draft…what difference is the draft going to make?

    We are cursed…even God hates the Bucs and sends a horrible lightning storm at just the right time.

    I’m hoping God has a sense of humor and is just efffing with the negative nellies here…getting their hopes up so they can expand a poor start at 1-2 into an entire decade of futility.

    I’m literally loving about how bad our defense is now that I’m thinking back to yesterday’s game. I wonder how to defence likes it knowing that their fans are laughing at them? Yeah I even heard one of the local radio announcers laughing at the Bucs today. It is part of the healing mechanism of an embarrassed fan.     @realist…face it…your boy’s dirk and smitty look worse than lovie and frazier….the defense is giving up an averaging of 33 points thru the first 3 games, we cant get any pressure on the qb and we cant create turn overs….dirk refuses to run the ball and cant manage the clock….

    we looked worse in this game vs the rams than we did last year….gave up more points in this game than we did last year….coaches made more mistakes in this game than the players did last year….face it…it aint looking good….not with a high flying Denver coming to town and a pissed off panthers team on deck….GO BUCS!!!!

    I know this might sound weird but what Jameis did Sunday was actually a smart play. And here’s why once he seen and realized that there was 8 defenders in the end zone he passed the los. Jameis knew that he had passed the line of scrimmage but he realized if he would have taken off right away the defenders would have converged on him hence which was why he acted like he was going to throw the ball. So I feel like Jameis wanted to get as close as he could to the end zone so it would have been a higher chance at scoring the touchdown. And he really had everybody fooled other than Robert Quinn because if think about no defender even made an attempt to approach Jameis to tackle him which is why he kept buying himself sometime.
    Overall great thinking by Jameis but you have to give props to Robert Quinn for his hustle and awareness in that moment of the game. Which Jameis kind of did in his press conference Sunday by saying he wish he had eyes in the back of his head.
