“Home Run” Hitters

September 29th, 2016

demaryiusHow bout that Bucs secondary!

Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are coming to town, Denver’s prolific wide receivers. Both are proven veteran performers in the their prime, with four Pro Bowls combined.

Tampa Bay has allowed explosive plays week after week. Without a visibible pass rush since Robert Ayers went down in Arizona with an ankle injury, how exactly to the Bucs feel about facing these receiving giants?

Dirk Koetter was asked that question by Denver media this week. Below is his answer, via the Broncos official website.

“A lot. A lot of challenges, because they can both hit a home run at any time,” Koetter said of Thomas and Sanders. “There’s plenty of good receivers in this league, but there’s very few teams that have both guys that are capable of going the distance on any play, either throwing it over your head because they’re fast enough or their big enough or both, or in the quick game and the screen game being able to take a ball and make guys miss and outrun them. So as a tandem, boy, I can’t imagine there’s many better.”

Ouch! The hard truth there is making Joe queasy.

Mr. Derrick Brooks spoke yesterday on WDAE-AM 620 about how at the very top of the Broncos’ playcall sheet will be deep shots and plays with big-play potential. Until the Bucs prove they can stop them, Brooks said, that’s the diet they’ll get early and often from every NFL offense.

    Yummy.

  2. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Yea, Sanders and Thomas could definitely be in for big days. Only saving grace is that Siemien isn’t all that good

This secondary has the structural integrity of Lindsey Lohan’s nasal cavity. If we can’t get any pass rush then this could be a long day on the defensive side of the ball

    …………..

  4. Destinjohnny Says:

We need to start looking at next years drAft.
Plus we need to spend $ on a free agent wideout.
Then draft d lineman after d lineman after d lineman
Like we should have done this year

  5. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

W/o a pass rush, even Revis was exposed when he was here in Tampa, and unless we can come up with a way to get to the Denver QB, Trevor Semen will have a big day, at our expense.

  6. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Yeah, its gonna be ugly. Not as ugly as it would be if the Bucs were playing in Denver, but ugly. U.G.L.Y. I’ll have my paper bag (for wearing, then vomiting) and my bottle at the ready.

  7. The Real Malloy Says:

    Destinjohnny,

You are the reason that Bucs fans are so lame. Its %ucking week 4. Calm down. The Panthers have the same record.

We pull off 1 of these next 2 games, and we come back after the bye with Ayers and Dougie and a much more favorable schedule.

We ALL knew this first part of the schedule was going to be tough.

  8. chris conte Says:

Take d thomas, v green, e sanders in your fan duels cause i am toast!

  9. GhostofSchiano Says:

One thing I thought I would see under Mike Smith would be some linebacker blitzing packages. I cannot recall one. I did not see the Arizona game (had to work) but it would seem that hitting these rookie QB’s would be a most effective tool to neutralize a passing attack. Any opposing view?

  10. shouldhavedraftedefiert Says:

hold no hope for this secondary except maybe Hargraves takes a step forward and start getting his hands on the ball, A win would be that Winston stays healthy and has a solid game. I want to see a 90+ QB rating and no INTs for Jameis this week!

  11. Supersam Says:

Well So much for starting Our defense on Fantasy this week.. Evans however has been gold for me .

  12. go for the face30 Says:

The Key is the Bucs Defense. Having a hard time imagining the Bucs offense scoring more than 2 touchdowns. This is a really bad matchup. HOWEVER – it is a bit interesting that the betting line is only 3 and a half. A team that isn’t used to humidity, traveling all the way down here etc. There could be a decent chance that we won’t catch them on their “A” game.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs don’t match up particularly well against the SB Champs (go figure), but that’s not to say that Bucs couldn’t win. Denver (3-0) has beaten 3 solid teams, but 3 things stand out. First, their defense has been GRREAT at pressuring the QB (12 sacks, 5 turnovers in 3 games is impressive). Second, Denver’s WRs and RBs are averaging 67% receiving and 12 yds/reception with a rookie QB, not too shabby. And third, Denver’s not beating themselves (like our Bucs are wont to do) … they’ve only given up 5 sacks total, are less penalized than their opponents, aren’t giving up big plays, and have come up with the clutch plays when they were needed. It looks like they can be run on however (Panthers & Bengals averaged 150 yds against them). If the Bucs are going to beat them, we’ll have to play good solid football though in all 3 phases of the game, especially (1) protect Jameis, (2) no turning the ball over, (3) don’t give up the big plays, and (4) make the critical stops and get off the field. And fortunately we’re playing here at RayJay where the Bucs really shine. Oh wait, that was the sun that was really shining last game. Still recovering from heat stroke.

  14. Espo Says:

Keep the safeties back. Only blitz on occasion.

DONT BITE ON EVERY SINGLE PLAYACTION

  15. teacherman777 Says:

I thought we drafted the next Grammatica.

Instead, we totally wasted a HUGE draft pick.

    2nd rounders should be starters.

We could have drafted another DE, DT, WR, S, OG, CB

Wow….I still can’t believe we drafted a kicker

I still think Licht has done a really good job, but man, he really messed up on picking Aguayo.

I can understand maybe drafting a K in the second round, if you are a very deep team with a top 5 defense and offense, but seriously?

The Bucs? We have sucked for soooo long, we aren’t good enough to make “luxury” picks.

  16. Coulditreallybeworse? Says:

Sorry but no way the bucs beat the defending champs.

If you have money bet it all on the Broncos.

  17. Kobe Faker Says:

best friend would have been the run game…not doug martin…

Mostly logan mankins…we have been sweezied

Only chance we have is stay close and jameis has to play clean. No dumb turnovers and under control. 3 and outs is ok. Tough defensive game decided in the humid 4th quarter

    Guess who?

    Yippy I aguayo!

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

I’m not ready to bury this team just yet.
Are we outgunned and outmanned? Yes! But I believe that the Broncos can still be beat. If we play mistake-free football, control the clock, tighten up the defense, and make field goals and PATs we’ll be OK!

  19. DB55 Says:

Evans > Thomas. Look it up.

  20. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Creamsickle

    Nice metaphor! LMAO

the structural integrity of Lindsey Lohan’s nasal cavity.

Now that is turning a phrase. Well done!

  21. rayjay1122 Says:

I am 42, was born in Tampa and obviously I grew up a Bucs fan and since there was so much excitement in 1979 and 1980 over the team’s newly found success, I was heavily influenced by my Father. I wish I had of been born and raised somewhere else. Being a Bucs fan is exhausting, embarrassing, maddening and boring. Now the problem is that since I grew up with this team, I can’t bring myself to jump ship the way my Father did several years ago. So I actually don’t blame the Bucs for my misery, I blame my Father for doing this to me. Thanks a lot Dad!!!

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

I believe Our next president will be better than our present one. I believe mortgage rates will go up next year. I believe we will make tremendous strides in curing cancer the next few years. And Finally, I believe our Bucs will take an A..Whipping this Sunday. Jameis will be on his back for most of the game. And I believe the final score will be in Denvers favor. Ohhh Yeah, I believe alright. Can’t help what my analysis and review of the facts..allow me to…BELEIVE!

  23. cmurda Says:

I like how every prediction that has us winning from the posters here also includes us playing a perfect game. Hold on. When have we even been close to mistake-free. I have every hope in the world and yes, it is possible but….

  24. FLBoyInDallas Says:

It won’t be an Arizona-like beatdown but it’ll still be a loss this Sunday.

    6-10 here we come.
