“The Hall Famers … They Get The Ball, Too”

Noah Spence got a lesson after his first sack

One of the few Rays of sunshine in Sunday’s alley-beating by the Cardinals was the first sack for rookie DE Noah Spence.

It was part coverage sack, part hustle and part great awareness.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network, veteran defensive end Robert Ayers called it “a veteran-like play.”

“He read off the offensive linemen, he read off the blocking scheme, and he read off what Gerald McCoy did, and he was able to hustle to get to the play,” Ayers said of Spence.

But Ayers said he didn’t let Spence bask in the sunshine of his first NFL sack. Ayers reminded the rookie that “the Hall of Famers, you know, they get the ball, too.”

Ayers said it seemed Spence just wanted to squeeze Palmer and get the first sack, versus going for a strip-sack.

The broader message from Ayers is that the standards on the Bucs defense remain sky high, and with Ayers now out with a bad ankle, the rookies, Spence and DaVonte Lambert will be expect to raise their games to starter levels.

And this is one of the bright spots behind the dark cloud.

Spence needs reps in real games to get better. He’s going to get better.

I think Buc Bonzai was the first to point out the season breaks well for us.
Yeah the first five games were beyond brutal but then we get the bye.

We’ll have experience against the three toughest teams in the NFL…we’ll get a week off to heal…Doug should be back…Ayers should be better and those last 11 games…at least ten of them are winnable.

If we can win on Sunday and go into those final 11 2-3 I stick with my ten wins prediction. Lose on Sunday and I’m not so sure.

BTW this schedule not only sets up for us…if we play well we’re going to get the most exciting game at RayJay in recent memory. If the Bucs go into the final home game against the Stinkin’ Panthers at 9-6 can you even imagine the crowd and excitement that will show up for the first “real” showdown of many to come between #3 and Cam.

Time to get Coached Up so he can began to Play Up to Potential! 14 games to play 8 games to win would show progress nothing less!!

SPBF – we just got beat 40-7 and you are predicting winning 8 out of the final 11 if we can manage to beat the Rams but lose to the Broncos and Panthers?

That’s a tall order my friend. Hope you are right but I would have to see back to back wins before even contemplating such playoff hopes much less expecting them.
