Mike Evans Passes Extreme Fitness Test

September 28th, 2016

mike evans 1213Interesting take today by Dirk Koetter on the Bucs’ superstar receiver, Mike Evans, the guy whose hands have gone from K-Y-riddled to sticky.

Evans has been a monster with 21 catches for 301 yards and three touchdown through three games — and only one drop.

The Bucs’ head coach was asked about Evans today and noted how he has stepped up his game in ways that might not be visible on TV or in the stands.

“I think that Mike Evans is on a mission right now,” Evans said. “I think his concentration and his ability to play through being tired. You know, he got tired on the field. All those guys that were out there, you know, 60-70 plays in that heat and humidity. I thought Mike, since I’ve been here, that was the best game he’s had as far as pushing through endurance issues.”

Yes, the Bucs dropped back to pass 60 times, and Evans took a vast majority of snaps in the September steam. No cramps or muscle tweaks as he’s had in past years. And his hops were there on the Bucs’ fourth-quarter touchdown.

It’s just more evidence that Evans’ ascent from very good to great is real.

Keep up the great work Mike! All the hard work you put in shows.

He’s a number 1 receiver but some mofos will say otherwise lol. Listen to someone that lives outside of Tampa. He is the only player on the roster that other people outside of Tampa feel is a threat. And MCCoy somewhat but I’ve gave up on him last year.

  3. McBuc Says:

Bu fan… Martin is another guy talked about outside of Tampa, along with Winston.

  4. McBuc Says:

Sorry, auto correct messed up your name Bucfan.

It’s good to see ME be what we thought he could be, a #1 wr.

WAY TO GO MIKE!!! YOU AND JAMIES KEEP IT UP. ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL KOETTER, LICHT (OR BOTH ) REALIZE SMITH CAN’T RUN A DEFENSE, THEN THIS WILL BE A PLAYOFF TIME.

CONTINUE TO SHARPEN YOU SKILLS WITH JAMEIS AND ONE DAY WHEN THE TIME COMES YOU’LL BE READY. HOPEFULLY SOONER THAN LATER.

I trust that Mike didn’t hang with ASJ….

The wrap on Evans is he doesn’t have speed…..you can give me two more receivers just like ME13 & I’d be very pleased. What an absolute monster to cover.

  10. Warren Says:

I THINK MIKE EVANS DIDNT HEAR YOU BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T USE BOLD TYPEFACE AND LEFT OUT A FEW EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes too much KY can lead to sticky hands…

  12. Ed Says:

Evans, Humphries and Brate have all shown consistency this season and have been the bright spots in this offense. They get open in the short and intermediate routes and squeeze the ball.

Add a burner to this group and Winston could get the easy touchdowns like Keenum threw to Quick and Austin. We lack that element to the offense.

Would certainly like to see Winston make the short throws more accurate, no more lateral throws to Sims, his slippery hands have killed key drives. Like to see Russell Sheppard replace VJAX. Vincent has been ineffective, another game or two like the last and he will get benched.

  13. Kobe Faker Says:

    son o biatch

hawley didnt practice with ankle injury

he has been the rock so far for jameis. jameis needs the clean pocket to step into his throws

plays breakdown when there is a big push right front of jameis face… rolling out toward miller isnt good either…damn

  14. Conte Piscateli Says:

I never worried about ME13 hands, while he had a lot of drops last year, they were all lapses in concentration on the easy catches. You could tell he was pressing to make plays after the catch. He still routinely made the difficult catches look easy. He seems focused and involved and certainly ready for discussion with the NFL elite.

  15. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

So many of you guys are just sheep. The dude had a couple bad games and Joe decided to exaggerate it and you guys just fell for it. The dude was also a stud last year outside of one bad game and a couple of mediocre bad games. Go look at his stats from last year. The dude is a stud!

  16. SB with Jameis Says:

Mike Evans was credited with 11 dropped passes last yr.
    http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/drops/2015/

He had 6 drops in ONE game against NY

So 5 drops through the other 15 games!! Tavon Austin already has 4 through 3 games. Maybe the Rams should cut him and he should come here?????? ME is and always has been a Stud!

  17. SB with Jameis Says:

As to the above comment that is “awaiting mod”

Mike Evans was credited with 11 dropped passes last yr.
    “link showing dropped passes”

Mike had SIX drops in one game against NY.
    “link showing six vs. NY”

Mike is and always has been a Stud.

  18. gotbbucs Says:

He should see close to half as many again the targets that he’s been seeing. When you have a monster like that you find ways to feed him the ball. I understand balance and getting other guys involved in the game plans, but the other guys don’t have the same abilities.
Especially in the redzone. If there’s a 1st and what ever from inside the 15 yard line, one play needs to be a jump ball to Evans, every single time, no excuses.

We need more chunk yard plays.

  19. Pickgrin Says:

Nice start to the season ME!

Its early but so far he’s on pace for 1600 yards and 16 TDs.

  20. iamkingsu Says:

Doug Martin rookie year and contract year enough said

  21. SB with Jameis Says:

Evans is ‘statistically’ ranked 5th in the league now for WR’s cause they go by Yards first. He may be 5th in yards but he is 1st in TDs. 3rd down targets, and 1st down catches. I would provide the link but it would await moderation prolly.

  22. ninety9buc Says:

Mike Evans credits V-Jax all the time for his progress at being a pro.
    3 games in guys??
    Vincent Jackson is not done.
    Watch!!

  23. scott Says:

Vjax is no longer force fed the ball. when Jameis is spreading it to 8 receivers a gem what do yall expect? seriously
