Strong Offensive Showing

August 29th, 2016
Sizzling offensive numbers.

Sizzling numbers.

How solid was the showing of the offense against the bungling Browns Friday night? Well, it may have been a game for the ages.

Consider this nugget dug up by the Bucs’ media relations staff:

Since 2000, Tampa Bay’s 305 yards of offense in the first half are the most the team has recorded in the preseason. It would be the second-most in any first half by the Buccaneers since 1991, behind the 355 yards recorded at Philadelphia in the first half last season in November.

Yes, yes, yes. It was a preseason game. And it came against the Browns. But what were the Bucs supposed to do, lay down for the Browns and play only third-stringers?

That’s what a team is supposed to do with one of the dregs of the league: Stomp a foot on their throat and don’t let them up for air.

The fact the third game of the preseason is supposed to be a dress rehearsal for the regular season makes Joe smile this morning.

Jameis was great. I’m so happy that we finally have a quarterback. It looks like Jameis to Evans will continued to grow. Also the defense played pretty good. I heard the Browns are trying to trade Josh Brown. What are the chances the Bucs trade for him? Him & Evans on the field together would be unreal.

Don’t know what the question was in the above picture, but the look on Jameis’s face is a classic.Fantastic game Jameis, keep it up!

  3. Tom Edrington Says:

Totally thrilled that the Bucs were able to dominate the crappiest franchise in football!!!!

  4. BucsFan93 Says:

Is it just a coincidence, Jameis didn’t handle the team rah rah session before the game and he had a smooth start? Just throwing it out there… I think what ever routine he had that day he should replicate for every game.

I’m totally thrilled tom E is the crappiest so-called Buccs fan on jbf.

  6. Kobe Faker Says:

I’m hoping we are getting the no huddle pass to setup run playcaller koetter from Atlanta than the 20th ranked offense of last year

Koetter is running the show without the restraints/offensive philosophy of run first love

I hope we get the brash playcaller that dropped 56 pts on us 2 years ago

Everyone has to be cocky to make it at the nfl level. I’m sure koetter wants to make his mark. Dropping 30 pts on teams and be known as a off guru will make him warm inside. Once your the nfl you never ever want to go back to coordinator

I’ve been saying all summer the Superbowl formula in my opininon is running the football effectively and consistently rushing the opposing team’s QB. My take away from our pre season,we will again effectively run the football and now rush the hell out opposing team’s QBs. We don’t make schedules we simply show up whip @$$. No one in the league I stated yesterday no team in the league looks out right better than Tampa Bay no team in the league.

    Lets go get Josh Gordan!!!

    Just imagine

Mike Evans and Josh Gordan together for the next 5 years with James Winston!! Trade ASJ for Josh Gordan. Done deal!

    OMG!!

Just the thought makes me go crazy!

    Go Bucs!!

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

Gordon hasn’t played meaningful football in almost 2 years. Not from injury, but because he can’t put down the pipe. He’s also suspended for the first 4 games. Talented? Yes. Worth a 2nd round pick (I hear that’s the going rate from Cleveland)? Maybe. Available on Sundays? Ummmmm…….
    Pass.
We looked good Friday. I would caution folks to not get too over-hyped though. Any way you look at it, it’s a preseason game against Cleveland.
    Go Bucs!

  10. Waterboy Says:

Josh Gordon is a phenomenal athlete but I wouldn’t even consider giving up more than a 4th rd draft pick for him. One more slip up with the drugs and his nfl career is more than likely over.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t want to be a wet blanket but didn’t we smother Buffalo in the third preseason game last year……and look how we started our season….

I do have confidence that won’t happen this year because of the new coaching staff.

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs fans should probably throttle back a little before getting overly cocky after a preseason win. Bucs were firing on all 11-cylinders on both sides of the ball Friday night, and it was awesome. Just about everyone stepped up … Jameis, VJax, ME13, Hump, the entire DLine … the list goes on. Penalties were minimal (only 3 on the Bucs is unheard of), and we had 0 turnovers in the 1st half. Roberto kicked perfectly and our ST were excellent. We all follow the Bucs closely and know what they’re capable of. But we’ve also seen too many times when capability and performance didn’t align very well, for whatever reasons. I’ve got tons of confidence in Coach K and Jameis, but every single game this season will be a dogfight. Like every coach I’ve ever known has said … “One game at a time”.

  13. Buccfan37 Says:

Cleveland is not that bad. They compete well in that AFC North every once in a blue moon. It’s hard to call any NFL team crappy when that’s the way they look at you. The new awakening is upon us.

  14. GatorBucFan Says:

Any chance of looking at Rueben Randall or any other released Wideout?

  15. pick6 Says:

eye opening to hear we schemed to keep them out of 3-4 most of the time. obviously a savvy thing to do in general, but it puts these stats in further context. The browns were the 31st team in the league last year, they cut or made no effort to retain a number of their more talented players from that tire fire season, are probably playing more rookies than any team in football, and on top of that the defense we rolled up those yards and points against was not their top choice personnel group.

it was fun to watch but dangerous to draw conclusions from

I am new to the NFL (long time FSU college football fan), so glad to see Bucs take preseason seriously and want/work to win the games. Stupid cardinals out here in Az have publicly stated that preseason is meaningless football. BS! Man I enjoyed that preseason Bucs vs browns game more than any NFL game yet with one exception–the game last year vs Eagles. The game at ray Jay was awesome last Thursday and I am sure the fans in stadium were ecstatic. I hope cardinals lose their ass off–keep hearing how great they think they are on the radio out here–sickening. Mike Jenkins tore ACL–they hadn’t even gotten to find out what a loser he was yet–Lovie’s bro LOL
