No Kicks For Aguayo In Front Of Fans

August 24th, 2016
Team not hiding him.

Team not hiding him.

Yesterday was a brutal day for embattled Bucs kicker Roberto Aguayo.

First, if Joe didn’t know better, he would have thought the Bucs were trying out high school kickers. It was ugly. Even uglier was when fans broke out into the Florida State warchant when Aguayo missed, and they gave Bronx cheer-like standing-Os when he made a kick with boos mixed in.

So Joe thought it was more than curious that Aguayo did not kick at the final open practice for Bucs training camp on the main practice field in front of the fans today.

Was Dirk Koetter and the Tampa Bay brass trying to shield Aguayo from more harsh criticism from Bucs loyalists?

Joe spoke with someone with the Bucs who would know and he  adamantly denied such a notion. Joe was told Aguayo did not kick in front of the fans — neither did any Browns kicker in the joint practice — because it was not part of the pre-planned practice script.

Previously, Koetter had stated he was going over the script plans with Browns coach Hue Jackson at the Browns hotel Monday evening.

So no, the Bucs are not hiding Aguayo.

Maybe at the game Friday we can have the fans then their backs?
We passed on soooooo many stud d lineman to draft this guy wow

  2. Destinjohnny Says:

    Turn

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

At this point in time I would of thought Miko would be the distraction, not Roberto the kicker.

  4. Rob Says:

People need to lay off this kid for awhile. He has the unfortunate baggage of being expected to be a world class kicker on day one, and he’s in a totally new situation. Booing him in practice doesn’t help anyone.

Give him a few real games to get his feet wet before we bring out the torches and pitchforks.

  5. "The kevin" Says:

    Well atleast he didn’t miss

  6. Buc since '74 Says:

The long snapper should wear panties. That should take his mind off of troubles.

  7. JJV Says:

Can the Bucs seriously try hypnotism for him. It would also make him forget the recent misses as well. It sounds silly but why not at this point?

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How about several articles a day……..ASJ must feel relief like Gary Condit felt when 911 took the attention off of him for the Chandra Levy murder.

  9. GilArciaBucs Says:

I just find it comical how so many fans continue to make this such a big deal and continue to use the “so many players drafted after him” line like that really validates anything. Bottom line is no one drafted is a sure-fire guarantee. Not the many drafted after him, not the many before him. We are complaining about kicks missed in the preseason as well as in PRACTICE when NEITHER hits the stat sheet. I’ll be concerned if the trend continues into the regular season.

  10. Mike Says:

He wasn’t going to kick today regardless it’s apart of his camp program he could’ve been 100/100 he still wouldn’t have kicked today but of course the media takes it another way, sometimes I feel y’all should report for TMZ u can find unicorn and rainbow drama there lames

  11. LakeLandBuc Says:

    lol SMDH

  12. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Like I said in the other thread. Fans corrected the booing saga. He did NOT get booed..it was the Browns that walked right past the fans. Jenna Laine or someone else started this crap. I saw the videos from Buc fans when the so called booing happened.. and they are correct..the Browns players had just walked past them at the same time Roberto was doing his thing..

People have tweeted bspn and Jenna to correct this fabricated story..

  13. Buccfan37 Says:

And Aguayo lines up for the attempted 42 yard FG to win the game. Crowd goes silent. Easy money. Boo, hooked right.

  14. Mike Says:

I was one of the guys that booed the brows players , then they tried to make it seem as if we booed the kicker , c mon man, maybe a couple people booed but they made it seem like we did the waive booing , and who cares what ESPN gets off Twitter This is the 813 no one cares what that lady says I was sitting less then 20 yards from him, the crowed didn’t boo loudly if anything we were concerned

  15. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

The fact that our own fans are booing this guy is sick. The sad thing is our country as a whole gets off on someone else failures. That’s all you see in the news anymore about one does wrong vs. good. Is it that we are just that insecure about our own selves that we get gratification though another’s failures? It’s sick people and we need to change that mindset or we have a bigger problems ahead. Either support the guy or shut the hell up. Go Bucs!

  16. LocalJoker Says:

He’s kicking with Julio down by the school yard.

  17. Joe Says:

Like I said in the other thread. Fans corrected the booing saga. He did NOT get booed.

Right. Fans were doing the warchant at … um… well… eeeerrr … Nile Lawrence-Stample?

Funny how the boos happened only when Aguayo missed but they were aimed a Browns players yet at no other time in practice were Browns players booed.

Please stop spinning a story you don’t like. Joe and many other media members were in the stands and heard this. Some of the folks who booed and jeered were sitting within arm’s reach of Joe.

Also interesting Joe heard zero booing “at Browns players” today. So the only time in two days Bucs fans were moved to boo the Browns were as the exact moments Aguayo missed kicks?

There are actual Buccs fans who would do this??? smh

  21. James Walker Says:

Leave the kid alone. The boos and heckles are going to hurt the team. Do local fans want to lose? I wonder….

  23. K2 Says:

Hey OAR….Roger Goodell said, “no unicorns on the field!”

  24. Mike Says:

I booed them Myself loudly as they walked around the Fg post to stand and watch special teams on the sideline , I can show you a photo where I was sitting behind the Browns players and with all this loud booing , I haven’t heard any tape of these loud boo”s yet, just because a couple people booed around you don’t make it a group effort, the was it was portrayed yesterday by other sources then just joe was ridiculous , like we turned into eagle fan overnight and was burning Roberto jerseys all over the place.

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Booing a kicker who misses in practice…..wow, that’s really a fan.

I have no doubt that Joe is reporting it accurately…..unfortunately.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

In 2013 Aguayo was 95% on FG’s (possibly worthy of a 2nd round pick)

In 2014 Aguayo was 90% on FG’s (Still worthy I guess)

    In 2015 Aguayo was 80% on FG’s…

    In 2016….stay tuned.

  27. Dewey Selmon Says:

ESPN just reported that Roberto the kicker was held out of practice because they didn’t want him to kick in front of the fans. I tend to believe Joe.

  28. Bucsfanman Says:

Who cares if he’s booed or not?! If he needs a handler at this point in his career, he’s dunzo!!!
Personally, I don’t understand booing your own players but guess what, this is America and stupidity is not illegal, unfortunately!
Seriously though, he hasn’t even come close to facing pressure or hostile fans yet. He’s not going anywhere so lets try to take it easy on the kid till regular season. Oh, and he’s a Buc!

  29. Jerry G Says:

Its a shame the fanbase is willing to give up this kid so early.we gave doug martin a shot and look what happened. instead of turning your backs when he kicks how about going the extra mile and giving him an overwhelming support.dont yall dimwitts think?if the rest of the team will think the fans will do the same with them when they screw up?jameis only had 2 completions in last weeks game and no one is booing him!

Joe how biut you get this fanbase in check!im a bucs fans through good and bad!BUCIT!

  30. Mike Says:

Dewey did you read the article , didn’t joe just say it was part of the preseason plan and the Browns kickers didn’t kick either , or you just bouncing in Joe like Lebron bounces a basketball??

  31. JMN Says:

I bet ESPN didn’t report that the Browns kicker didn’t kick either. That is why ESPN is a steaming pile of dog feces.

  32. pick6 Says:

i fear for the kid if he misses saturday night. i certainly won’t boo but you can bet that if dozens or hundreds did so at training camp, thousands would do so if he missed at RJS

  33. Chris Says:

No…..we were told by soooo many FSU people about how this guy was the greatest, he’s automatic, clutch, even if the stats from last year showed otherwise. Now you’re telling Joe that people weren’t booing, etc. He’s a grown man kicking a ball for a lot of money. Geez you act like this guy is your relative. If shanking field goals in practice and a game aren’t enough to get you booed than nothing is. Some of you me laugh , you think a guys sick for wanting one of the many d lineman available over this guy. Sorry, practice and preseason are a precursor to a field goal kickers ability to make them in the regular season, when the games count and the pressure is greater.

  34. Chris Says:

And some of you would probably be rude as hell to a person in the grocery store, making peanuts over the price of your deli meat or a fast food worker for messing up an order, but will act holier than thou over an overpaid kicker for an NFL team that charges 70 bucks for preseason football ticket, don’t cast any stones about people booing a team that hasn’t been relevant in 15 years making boneheaded decisions.

  35. jmoneyisback Says:

How many kicks has Roberto missed in games that matter?

  36. jmoneyisback Says:

And who boos at a practice? Sad to to be part of a fan base with so many pieces of stool.

  37. The Buc Realist Says:

    @jmoneyisback

Not only were they fans, but the were season ticket holders!!!! To me it would be the same as if you went to a restaurant and pushed around the chef until he dropped your food he was cooking!!! what did you accomplish???? In the long run, you only hurt yourself!!!!!

  38. theodore Says:

Are there going to be fans at games?

  39. 813bucboi Says:

this aint good….is he that mental weak that dirk has to hide Roberto….they probably switched things up last night or early this morning to protect him….if he or dirk cant get over 20-30 people heckling or booing him, Lord help us 9/11 on the road in a dome…..I think it was the wrong thing to do….he should be kicking 40-45yard FG’s right now….I think the best thing for Roberto is to go to one buc place tonight at midnight with no one around and just kick….just him the field and the balls….I don’t think leaving him alone will solve anything…someone telling him that we need him to get his sh!t together because we will be counting on him should bring out the competitor in him if he has that dog in him….im rooting for the kid but damn….what if the defense was getting sliced thru…would everyone still be saying just wait until week1,2,or 3 before we get concerned….the kicking game is just as important as offense and defense….GO BUCS!!!!!

  40. Chris Says:

Well welcome to a fan base that, outside of the glory years of the Super Bowl/ playoff era of the late 90’s early 2000s have been a laughingstock of an organization since their inception in 1976. You must not have seen many episodes of the Football Follies, the Buccaneers were the stars of that NFL film production. Love the Bucs, tired of the losing and the apologists for this team. Put out a winning product, stop making boneheaded moves, the funny thing is the people calling others turd and piles of crap for booing a team that’s stunk for 15 years . These are millionaire players and billionaire owners they’re booing, not Grandma Smith from across the street.

  41. Chris Says:

And Realist, you know if you go to a 5 star restaurant and the food is late, overlooked, the wait staff is rude, you would be blowing up about it, or worse for the restaurant never going back.

  42. Chris Says:

And your analogy is wrong, no one booed him until he started missing kicks. If it gets to him now, then he’s not strong enough for the regular season. He’s seeking counseling after a couple of misses in pre season, with no one booing him or yelling? He’s fragile, and yours and the Buccaneers handling of him makes him more so.

  43. Buc1987 Says:

Lots says don’t worry it’s only pre-season, as if it’s a different kind of kick or much less pressure during the regular season.

For those that say that. I say STOP IT!

  44. 813bucboi Says:

@realist…its like watching your kid struggle with their math homework….do you throw in the towel and say you don’t have to do todays homework you’ve struggled enough….or are you going to put in extra practice time to make sure he’s well prepared for his test in 2weeks….GO BUCS!!!

  45. JMN Says:

An article about Aguayo on the front page of Yahoo right now. Joebucsfan.com is quoted in the article. This much media attention for a kicker is just insane.

  46. admin Says:

    JMN :

Got a link for that story? Don’t see any story on Yahoo home page on Aguayo.

  47. Eric Says:

Don’t feel bad, lots of fans around here hate Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy.

Most ignorant fan base in the league.

    And the most turncoat.

  48. The Buc Realist Says:

I have no problem with letting the Kid regroup!!! Take a day to break it up!! Its just mental and confidence problem at the moment that can be rebuilt pretty quickly!!!! Did they over pay for that car, sure!! But it only will be worse if we run it into the ground at this point and BOOO him at practice until he is total useless!!!!

But, some people just want to burn everything to the ground!!!

  49. JMN Says:

  50. Brent bull/buc Says:

Booing the guy is wrong but why can’t he man up and stick in their faces by making a few kicks. My only concern so far is this guy is showing some mental fragility. He’s no one of those guys that mentally tough as nails. He’s proven that..

  51. University of Seffner Says:

Since Roberto is probably having confidence issues, he just needs to relax, have a cup of coffee, or Iced Sweet Tea, and just take some time to count his blessings. He’s got the talent, he just needs to relax for a little bit, and think positively. Reading the Bible would help as well.

  52. The Buc Realist Says:

The Rumor going around is that they found a “real” mental sports coach!!! and was working with him!!! that is why he did not kick today!!!
Exclusive video of RA19 working with the new coach!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

I agree with the other rational fans not ready to totally run this kid out of town because he’s having issues in practice and preseason. Is it concerning, of course, is it a sure sign that he’s a bust before even one “real” game…absolutely not. There’s a saying that goes something like the sharpest steel is forged in the hottest fire, and from the minute Licht traded up to get a kicker this young man has certainly been feeling the heat. Hopefully he finds his confidence and becomes that forged steel that the Bucs (and fans) think he can be.

  54. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Strongest not sharpest…but you get the drift

  55. Dave Pear Says:

    @The Buc Realist,

Dang! He looks a lot different with his mask off.

  56. Defense Rules Says:

Was just listening to Big Dog on my way home Joe. Doesn’t sound like he’s real happy with the treatment y’all have been giving Roberto. He had me laughing so hard with his ‘Lock ’em out’ instructions to his staff regarding the Joes coming on at 5 PM that I almost wet my pants.

  57. Mike Johnson Says:

I wanna feel sorry for the kid..But I can’t!! This is the NFL and if Aguayo does not pull up from his funk, he to will be NFL(Not For Long). Its do or die. He should think about the worst case scenario…taking my order at the Burger drive thru…without the Mayo!

  58. BigHogHaynes Says:

The guy should not have been picked by us untill the 4th round! It was a reach and a bad one thy will burn, simple as that!

  59. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

He will be just fine. Have patience
