J.R. Sweezy Update

August 22nd, 2016
Status still shady.

Status still shady.

Joe just returned from the Bucs locker room and had a chat with injured left guard J.R. Sweezy.

Here is an update. Well, sort of.

Sweezy, who hasn’t practiced since the Bucs signed him in March, continued to be vague about his injury. But he did tell Joe that starting the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP) is not set in stone.

Obviously, Sweezy wants to play and the goal is to get better, hopefully by Sept. 11 when the Bucs kick off the season in Atlanta.

Sweezy would only say he is taking the situation “day-by-day.”

Maybe you need a reading comprehension refresher course?

  3. LargoBuc Says:

Gosh, I don’t ever recall the team being this hush hush about an injury. Licht apparently has made sure that NOTHING gets out until they say so.

  4. DallasBuc Says:

Yes maybe. Any idea where I can sign up for one of those?

The new info here is that he may not be on PUP to start the year? That’s new?

  5. DallasBuc Says:

    Another Licht screwup/coverup

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m starting to believe that Joe should ask JR how his big toe is.

  7. 813bucboi Says:

I wish dirk would be the straight shooter people claimed him to be and just come out and say one of two things….kevin pamphile is our starting guard week1 or sweezy will be on ir/pup list by week1….

he’s sure sounding a lot like lovie regarding player status…GO BUCS!!!!

  8. Joe Says:

Given the fact it came straight from Sweezy, and since he hasn’t spoken in over a week, yes.

  9. Joe Says:

Hardly! Only player he won’t talk about health status is Sweezy.

  10. DallasBuc Says:

[You know, if you want to be an ass, Joe can be a bigger ass. Into the cooler you go until the regular season. No one is forcing you to read stories. This is the second time Joe’s had to bust your ass. Third time is permanent. — Joe]

  11. Buccfan37 Says:

What do you have to do to get a straight answer about how close are you to ready?

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

That’s a wide brim floppy hat. I bet he hates the Florida weather.

  13. Joe Says:

Probably when he is cleared by doctors to practice in full participation. Read: 2015, ASJ.

Its Lovie’s fault, remember ANYTHING that went wrong over the past three years is ALL Lovie!!!

Teams are very reluctant to speak openly about a player’s injuries. The Bucs were very hush-hush about Carl Nicks a few years back. This J.R. Sweezy story seems too familiar with injuries to key players in the past. Every article I have read on JoeBucsFan regarding J.R. Sweezy gives me the impression that he will likely not play a game this season.

Do you keep a Dominik candle burning in your window?

  17. Lunchbox Says:

Funny you mentioned ASJ Joe, I was just thinking this sounded like the “day to day” comments we heard for weeks on end regarding ASJ. Maybe it’s the conspiracy theorist in me, but I just have a feeling this could be much more serious than originally thought. Maybe not wanting to face a high dollar mistake in free agency? Maybe not, I’m just spitballing here.

  18. Joe Says:

ASJ got thrown under the bus last year by youknowwho. He was never cleared by doctors to fully participate in practice until late in the season. But youknowho kept saying he was practicing fully.

But, yeah, Joe hates ASJ, if you believe some. smh

  19. Bob Digital Says:

I’d be utterly surprised if Sweezy doesn’t start the season on the PUP list. I guess we’ll see just how deep this o-line is.

the good news is DallasBuc won’t be trolling these here parts of the interwebs for a few weeks. Rejoice!

  20. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

    DallasBuc is being a d!ck.

I would say that most of us assumed that Sweezy was definitely out until after week 6 or whatever, so hearing that he still has hope to start the regular season and isn’t 100% on the PUP to start the season is at least somewhat encouraging.

Did that clarify the article for u, DB?

  21. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

And on a side note, if ASJ keeps up this current level of focus/commitment/execution, he will be an All-Pro…

  22. C2 Says:

I understand we as fans want to know everything about a players health, but why can’t you people understand that the HIPPA laws of the land apply to professional athletes just as it does you and everyone else. No employer or any third party for that matter can disclose ones personal health information without prior authorization. Perhaps it seems like a small thing to you as far as knowing whats going on with a player on your favorite team… But just for a minute imagine if your employer disclosed some personal health condition of yours to a 3rd party with a strong need to know.

  23. Scurvy Dogs Says:

I think it is pretty common knowledge that Dallas is a tool.

  24. Joe Says:

    Thanks Erik.

  25. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

    👍 No prob

Not going to let anyone get unjustifiably dogged. Especially the Joes

  26. Mj33blu Says:

    Pretty chippy comments section.

Word from the coach and word from the player are two different things. If the story is different, we’ve learned something. If the story is the same we’ve learned something. Belichick runs a tight ship where coach and players are nearly always in absolute lockstep and they’re profoundly vague on injury info, particularly if it’ll telegraph anything into a regular season game or as a whole.

It’s difficult to argue with a successful strategy. I take it as a bit of a bummer that he might start late and/or a little banged up, but take it as a positive that coach and player are in the same page with messaging.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

@joe says,” Hardly! Only player he won’t talk about health status is Sweezy.”…the only player lovie didn’t want to talk about was asj….again, sounds a lot like lovie….GO BUCS!!!!

  28. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Good grief some of you..expecting Licht to be perfect, like a God, like Karnac (from Johnny Carson’s show)..

If that’s the case..then he should be perfect, which would mean a perfect season, then the SB..Wow, he’s human allow to fail at some of his FA’s and picks..

If humans were meant to be perfect, their wouldn’t be erasers on top of pencils.

  29. DB55 Says:

I thought pamphile did an excellent job on sat. I don’t see the need to rush sweezy back.

  30. LargoBuc Says:

Dallas just dosen’t know when to stop, constantly crying like a redheaded step child. No offense to any redheaded step children out there 🙂

  31. Birdman Says:

I would like to politely note that I learned nothing.
    Dont ban me. ✌

  32. BigHogHaynes Says:

ABSOLUTE POWER/if Sweezy starts the season on IR or PUP then the deal was a bust and we should have gone after a healthy player, this is not an if, it is going to fail on a Carl Nicks level!! Floppy Hat Duty is all the BACK/STABBER will get out of this guy! Left Guard 2-round pick 2017!!!

  33. LifeOfABucFan Says:

No offense to any redheaded step children out there

    LOL@ LargoBuc..

    ——————–
I just got a pic of Pamphile in the mail!!! Woohoo!! and Verner too..lol..

  34. Brian Says:

I too learned nothing knew here but I spose thanks for the article directly from Sweezy anyway. There were plenty of reporters stating that Sweezy MIGHT start the season on PUP.

  35. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Fingers crossed

  36. Mike Johnson Says:

Easy Money Sweezy’s status is day by day. and he cashes his paychecks weekly. Not bad work if you can it. My best guess is the man plays 5 or 6 games later on during the season, Then rest his back and is out until next year. Then he…repeats the same. Thus the handle, EASY MONEY SWEEZY!

  37. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Dallas goes way over board with his arguments and criticism of the joes. I will try politely describe why I and I assume others feel as though Joe singles out certain players. When you constantly start articles or statements about players like KY hands, tweeti, 3rd string it makes it seem like Joe has an agenda and therefore anything reported about them is taken with a grain of salt. That also applies when you refer to our QB as Americas QB and a pro bowler. It takes away from the credibility of the articles when you’re overly negative or positive about players. Most on this site are pretty knowledgeable fans and want to hear all we can regarding this team. If your provide insightful info in the team without the snarky comments and/or nicknames I for one would appreciate it.

  38. grafikdetail Says:

Joe on some Trump sh*t LOL

  39. JonBuc Says:

Sweezy sweeps Bucs pot….the fact that he hasn’t practiced ONCE since signing in March is awfully dubious. This is going on six months now..I’d be (pleasantly) shocked if he saw the field this season.

  40. gulfcoast Says:

TouchdownTB, I sorta like the snarky comments bc it stays in tune with JBF site being, not like the big four letter or other news sites but it gives it a hometown, quirky, personal feel. Just do like me when he spends two paragraphs describing Peter King, just skip over it. All in all, joes have gotten under my skin a time or two but had we been winning, maybe I wouldn’t have been so easily aggravated. I just wish he wouldn’t block out someone’s rebuttal… We like drama too! Go Bucs! Joes, keep rolling. I check this site multiple times each day….

  41. Trubucfan22 Says:

Even Joe acknowledged in the post that it is only “sort of” an update. take it easy Joe. I think most (some) (a few) of us just like to bust your balls from time to time.

But you always stand your ground. Even when you are wrong. Lol

  42. BigMacAttack Says:

    @Joe. Lmao!!!
You’re on a roll. Good stuff as always!
I’m still stoked for the season. I think it may take a little while but I believe they will pull it all together, including Aguayo.

  43. Bill Says:

Sweezy is on indefinite status until the coaching staff can teach him to pass block, lol. Who knows when that will be? But when it happens I’m sure he’ll get activated. I’m sorry, but this smells like another bad OL move on Licht’s resume.

  44. Brent bull/buc Says:

Sounds like a bad move by licht and now a potential up..

  45. Brent bull/buc Says:

    Cover up

  46. Bill Says:

Prepare yourselves for the difficult loss of Mankins. It’s a real loss that neither Sweezy or the next guy is capable of filling. I know it sucks getting bad news, but that’s the deal.
