“I’m A Naturally Pissed Off Person”

Remember when new Bucs defensive end Robert Ayers drew the adjective of “nasty” from his defensive coordinator?

Remember when Demar Dotson was considering belting Ayers?

Ayers, 30 (9.5 sacks with the Giants last year) talked about how getting physical and nasty and violent in practice is all part of his game. Joe will let Ayers’ fantastic quotes this afternoon tell the story.

“You’re battling against someone every day; you’re supposed to be mad,” Ayers said. “You’re supposed to respond with anger and emotion, and it happens. The good thing about it is we got a lot of pros and it’s in the past now. We move forward; we get better.

“If I get beasted, I’m going to get mad. I’m going to try to respond. If I beast them, they’re going to get mad and try to respond. That’s what I like about this unit; there’s a bunch of guys going at each other’s neck. That’s a good thing.

“Every day literally we go out there and watch film and we feel like Ali [Marpet] is doing some extra stuff, or [Joe] Hawley, or Evan [Smith], or [Demar Dotson] or whoever. Every day we watch film and we’re like, ‘They’re doing something.’ I’m pretty sure they’re saying the same thing about us [on the defensive line]. But it’s just guys competing. It’s guys trying to get better, guys trying to win and trying to get the best of the other person. Every day, you know, and that’s happening and sometimes, you know, shit happens.”

Ayers went on to explain this is football and he’s always been on teams that compete hard within their own walls. Does Ayers believe he has an edge?

“I do feel like I’m a naturally pissed off person and sometimes things happen,” Ayers said.

What stands out about Ayers is that he doesn’t realize what a breath of fresh air he is for this Bucs defense. Lavonte David and Gerald McCoy are great players, and the Bucs have other talent, but they need an angry injection in the worst way.

And they got that in Ayers. Yes, Ayers is the polar opposite of Michael “Ghost” Johnson.

I absolutely agree. Angry like the old Raider or Steeler defenses of the 70’s. Angry-but smart. Personal fouls are killers.

My goodness……….perhaps an intervention by Ol’ Softie 93 is in the works.

It’s about having fun Mr. Ayers……did you not get the memo from our defensive leader?

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Ayers tops the list of best quotes thus far in training camp … “sometimes, you know, sh-t happens.” Can’t wait until he’s unleashed in Atlanta.

  10. Cobraboy Says:

Joes, could you comment on the punting battle? What have you seen?

And is the KO coverage team practicing any of the “pooch” kicks by Aguayo?

7 posts! That’s how long it took before we started beating up on a guy that’s not even in the article! Congrats!

  12. ElioT Says:

    Good!

This defense was full of nice guy p***ies last year and crumbled repeatedly at routine adversity. That combined with a passive sad sack of a HC/DC and that’s how you set records for futility (70% CP and so on…).

We need more guys with this attitude. Guys that are looking to destroy the opposing teams will to win (between the whistles).

    Go Bucs!!!

  13. LifeOfABucFan Says:

You guys need to watch the film on Ayers pancaking Cam Newton TWICE in one game..Cam will feel him again!!!

  14. Couch Fan Says:

So if angry is good then why do people cry when we site McCoy for not playing more angry? To me if he would be a beast if he played with that kind of passion. I like Ayers already.

Actually Einstein, he is mentioned in the article…..read the next to last paragraph.
Maybe spend more time on your reading comprehension skills instead of spanking to your GMC poster?

    Just saying.

In the past you guys shunned guys with that angry attutide. Joe! With that he’s not a Buccaneer type. It’s countless players we passed on because of the fans. You know who you are. We missed out on Beast mode when he left the Bills because of y’all fans. Mic drop!

Ayers is a SAVAGE. Hope he’s the one giving the pre game speaches this year. Wouldn’t mind if he wore a C on his jersey as well.
