Hawley > Smith?

August 31st, 2016
Hawley

Winner of his position battle?

Per the Buccaneers, Joe Hawley is among the giant list of Buccaneers not dressed for tonight’s game.

However, Hawley was practicing yesterday.

Evan Smith, the guy Dirk Koetter, said is competing for a starting center gig with Hawley, is dressed and ready to go against the Redskins.

Does this mean Hawley won the starting center gig? Joe will assume so, barring a mysterious injury.

I said that two weeks ago. Hawley is more aggressive and plays with more passion than Smith. Clearly the right choice. Smith adds excellent depth and versatility though.

No, because neither of them played. Smith is likely to play guard to start the season. Our starting Gs are both hurt. If Marpet can’t go, then it only makes sense to have Smith play G, since Hawley sucks at G. Smith is more versatile and thus is a good emergency player since he can play 3 positions. I don’t know how many o lineman we have dressed, but if a couple dudes go down, we gotta put someone out there to finish the game.

    Smith is a loafer.
