“You Damn Right, That’s My Quarterback.”

The Bucs’ elder statesman, linebacker Daryl Smith, weighs in on Jameis Winston unloading on Austin-Seferian-Jenkins today in Jacksonville.

Damn, what a moment it was in Jacksonville today, when America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, unleased his fiery fury on Austin Seferian-Jenkins, while ASJ was on the field with the second team.

Bucs veteran linebacker Daryl Smith gave his take on the situation to Joe afterwards.

Smith sat out the joint practices against the Jaguars with a minor injury. Nothing serious, he told Joe. But Smith was patrolling the sidelines and had two full days to study all aspects of the Bucs.

Smith saw the Jameis tirade (it’s here, in case you missed it) and was among many Bucs fired up about it.

“Jameis is Jameis. He’s just a leader. Everybody going to follow and listen. At times, that’s how it’s going to be,” Smith said of Jameis’ hollering. “Especially when, you know, mistakes are going to be made but you don’t want to just come out here keep making the same mistakes.”

Smith said he had warm feelings when Jameis got fired up. “You damn right, that’s my quarterback,” Smith said.

“We’re all trying to get better and win games and the only way to win games is to literally come out and get better every day, no exceptions. If you’re messing up, you got to be able to be corrected, take that criticism and move on.”

Mike Evans said seeing Jameis jacked up made an impression on him. “It got me fired up; I started talking a little trash,” Evans said, adding it’s byproduct of practicing against another team. “That’s good to have that. You can’t simulate that going against our guys.”

well this should offend the try hard everyone gets a hug and trophy crowd but this type of leadership has been sorely lacking on this team for some time now. glad smith is supporting the face of the franchise.

    “Smith said had warm feelings…”

The writer in me is cringing, lol. Especially because my editor always catches me making those sorts of mistakes! Just for my sanity:

“Smith said he had warm feelings…”

And don’t take that personal, Joe. I’m in the editing phase of a big book…totally burned out on editing, but got it in my head like a brain tumor.

I hate to say anything good about a division rival, but I really admire the attitude the Panthers have lately. Jameis seems to bring that attitude to the Bucs, and it is contagious.

Quarterbacks I saw posters on this board say they would’ve rather had leading this team this year prior to the ’15 draft

    Mike Glennon
    Christian Hackenburg
    Cardale Jones
    Dak Prescott
    Blake Sims

I am now convinced that Joe has it out for ASJ……and I’m not saying ASJ doesn’t deserve it…..but we’ve already had an article on this and to go looking for witnesses and use that in a separate article is piling on.
Just my opinion…and I’m quite certain Joe will say he “simply prints what he sees”…..and that’s certainly Joe’s prerogative.

That’s my Quarterback too!!! Love it!!!

I hear you Bonzai, they were stout before the emergence of Josh Norman. Norman is who brought them they’re swag. Will be interesting to see them this season.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

Swagger has not been on this team since Ronde left the building….before that Sapp and Brooks. Jameis was what this team needed and damn it, it HAD to happen once and for all.

Think we now know who Jameis is talking about when he says teammates don’t hate to lose enough.

    @CreamsicleBananaHammock

    Given the options we’ve had…

Josh McCown, Josh Freeman, Josh Johnson, Byron Leftwich, Luke McCown, Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Sims…

…really, the only average QBs we’ve had in the past ten years are Jeff Garcia and Brian Griese…and that isn’t saying much. Truth be told, discounting Brad Johnson, we have not had a decent QB since 1986 (Steve Young)…and Brad was really more about fewer mistakes than being good.

    That’s a 30 year span of time.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So obviously, people in Tampa have been desperate.

I also LOVE how they give TD footballs to kids in the stands. IF you ask me, the NFL should make that an unwritten policy. It’s the sort of thing that will get fans to attend.

when the leader of the team speaks…you better listen….GO BUCS!!!!

Lol, it does seem a little like Joe is trolling ASJ and ME.

Love it, reminds me of Brady, cause he would do the same thing, as much as I hate the Belicheats u can’t but help to model your game after them and it seems we are, Licht has been there, done that, so he knows the blueprint basically. This is #3’s team and he wi.l let u know how he feels. Gotta love it. Need more of it.
