Angry ASJ

More drama Wednesday night.

More drama Wednesday night.

Joe just doesn’t get this tweety Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Is this guy worth all the drama and hassle and wetnursing?

Joe’s not going to get into how he got run from an underwear football practice or unloaded on fans on Twitter with lewd and crude comments. This is different.

After a second quarter Ryan Griffin incompletion that appeared to be intended for ASJ, the embattled Bucs tight end started yelling at someone on the bench as he came to the sideline. It’s unclear in Joe’s capture of the moment from the broadcast on WFLA-TV, Channel 8, who exactly ASJ was hollering at, but at the 11-second mark, it seems to appear that Dirk Koetter has his back turned to ASJ as the tight end is heading to the bench.

Joe must be clear that it is unclear from the video who ASJ was barking at.

ASJ was grabbed by Russell Shepard before things got out of hand and was escorted to the bench. At the end of the video, Gosder Cherilus and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, stepped in to ensure order was restored and ASJ had calmed down. The video clearly shows a Bucs assistant coach saying something to ASJ, pointing toward the bench as Shepard hustled ASJ off the field.

Here is the video Joe captured.

Later, Paul Ryan of WFLA-TV twittered the following about the same scene in the video above.

And here is the WFLA-TV sideline video. Again, Joe is not sure who ASJ is yelling at but Ryan believes it is Koetter.

If ASJ really did unload on Koetter, Joe imagines he’s going to be needing a U-Haul van. After all the nonsense the Bucs have put up with from ASJ, for him to unload on the head coach in a preseason game, that may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

By the way, Joe thought it was telling that ASJ played in the fourth quarter of the fourth preseason game with the third-string quarterback. Feel free to do the math there.

Koetter briefly addressed the incident in his postgame remarks saying only, “We have to remember, players play and coaches coach.”

I’m so glad we drafted him over Jarvis laundry and Allen Robinson

  2. JonBuc Says:

Just when he was climbing out of the doghouse too. I’m pretty sure he has a personality disorder. Seems somewhat smart and well spoken at times….then is a complete moron lacking self awareness at other times. Come on, fella.

  3. Brian Says:

Dude played the entire game 4. Hes toast.

  4. Dreambig Says:

I could be wrong but I took that whole thing to be he was pissed at Griffin for throwing him a bad pass and he was not having a opportunity to shine. So he came to the sideline complaining about it. Who knows?

  5. PRBucFan Says:

    He needs to go.

    Brate it is.

  6. K2 Says:

    He makes the team.

  7. grafikdetail Says:

ASJ isn’t going anywhere… give me a break… the kid has passion! its called wanting to win and being a competitor… i’m sick of players being ok with losing and playing like they don’t care…

  8. LifeOfABucFan Says:

You people wanting ASJ out again..SMDFH…you must be jealous of this man..remember he is the bod of a god and a great player…so there..

  9. cmurda Says:

This dude is a basket case but I think much ado about nothing there. It didn’t look like he was shouting at Koetter to me. He may have been yipping at one of the other coaches with the headset on. His talent is still there and I think he gets a chance and makes the team but it’s literally do or die for ASJ this year.

  10. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I believe if he has Jameis throwing to him he will easily outplay brate

  11. feelthepewterpower Says:

I can’t clearly see who it’s directed at ….it happens on sidelines, but with ASJ, it’s a strike because he was kicked out of practice. Just needs to shut his mouth and play….and let his play do the talking.

  12. Rojas Says:

If I was ASJ, I would of been mad also.. Griffin was throwing to his feet an leading him into big hits everytime. What’s not to be frustrated about that ? If Jamie’s was throwing him the ball maybe it would of been a different story.

  13. PRBucFan Says:

Lol yea he was playing the entire game of the meaningless fourth game of the preseason because coach K has ALL the confidence in the world. Right.

You can get a high school kid to show passion. In the NFL, you have to get results. “Passion” without backing it up just makes one look like a fool.

  15. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Attitude or not, it would be a mistake to let ASJ walk. The Saints would scoop him up so fast and it would haunt us for the next 5 years.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Although I think ASJ was angry at the QB because of an errant throw, I’ve always felt ASJ really does not want to be great. He has the build and plays well in sperts. But he’ll never be one of the greats which he has potential to be. The effort and mindset just are not there. We will probably keep him. But he will have mediocre production. Should have traded him when we had the chance.

  17. feelthepewterpower Says:

btw….if ASJ is mad at the crappy qb play it’s understandable…lol…coming into tonight both qbs have been horrenous….hard to evaluate any receiver (even bell) off their poor play.

  18. Waterboy Says:

    @Dreambig

I think you’re right. It looks like there might have been a miscommunication on the play and he probably got ticked because the coach was yelling at him instead of Griffin. If you notice at the very end of the clip Griffin ran over to say something to him.

  19. cometowin2 Says:

Maybe a sit down with Brandon Marshall might help. Could he have the same issue as Marshall? Brandon has been better about controlling his issues since he identified what the problem was. Could it be borderline personality disorder?

  20. BigPoppaBuc Says:

I’m done with this dude… He’s constantly needing a chill out pow wow with teammates. He’s always rubbing his boo boos after taking a hit across the middle. Slowly waddles back to the huddle. Done. He sucks.

  21. mike10 Says:

Sorry guys, you can’t cut him. Sure we could have had Robinson but this guy has talent we’ve all seen and (often misdirected) passion. Why does the first step always have to be to cut him (a 2nd rd pick w skill).

Coaches coach. So then coach. If he acts like a child, sit him. If he endangers the culture, suspend him.

  22. PRBucFan Says:

Potential wins NOTHING lol, that’s all he is up to this point.

  23. SCBucsFan Says:

Doesn’t look like that big of a deal to me.

  24. firethecannons Says:

So, would it be better for ASJ to keep getting super slop impossible to catch passes and after not catching the balls, slowly approach the bench and sit very quiet with hands and legs folded?

Because Buccs fans are impatient. lol

  26. feelthepewterpower Says:

Most rookie TE’s…and ASJ was essentially a rookie with all his games missed don’t start producing for a couple of years….

you’d have to go back to shockey I believe to find a TE that has put up decent numbers in their rookie season.

It’s easy to say we should have taken robinson, etc..in hindsight and based on a position doesnt take as long to contribute on the field.

  27. grafikdetail Says:

and the golden boy Brate has really backed it up this preseason? LOL when healthy and given the opportunity (targets) ASJ backs it up… players like John Lynch & Ronde Barber would’ve never made it in today’s NFL because the know-it-alls call for talented players’ head before they can even develop… it’s still the BUCS… they don’t have the luxury of giving up on players that would be snatched up in 5 minutes by other teams simply because he’s not an instant success by your standards

How exactly has ASJ “backed it up?”

As for Lynch and Barber, neither were high second round picks. And to Joe’s knowledge, neither has pulled one boneheaded stunt which is all ASJ is known for.

  29. Rojas Says:

Brate hasn’t really shown anything this preseason either to be honest.

  30. PRBucFan Says:

Apart from one of the games where Brate had a hiccup and had a drop or two this preseason Brate has done what he has been asked to do lol.

ASJ has backed absolutely nothing up, he’s done nothing since 2014 when he came in the league.

And when you fail to get on the field for whatever reason for more than a couple of games in three seasons you don’t get considered a “rookie” jaja. On the contrary you have pressure placed on you to prove your worth the roster spot. And that is how it works and he hasn’t proven anything as of yet other than he’s a pain in the ass. You can be in love with his size and potential, but that alone never won a championship.

  31. Pickgrin Says:

ASJ yelling in the coaches direction and now they are going to cut him???

LOL – Um…. OK Joe. If you say so

  32. AC Says:

ASJ will not be cut. Joe why are you so quick to judge and say blasphemous things? These are grown men out here a little argument or yelling is not going to get him cut. GTFOH he is our BEST option at TE all you guys with something against him might as well let it go because he isn’t going anywhere. So what he played into the 4th with the back ups? You guys are too quick to jump to conclusions and JOE is usually wrong when he gives his

  33. Rrsrq Says:

If Cameron Brate is our starting TE, we are in more trouble than I thought. It’s good to be in right place, but can you make the play against players as talented or more talented than you in the NFL. That’s all I’m saying, this reminds me of Mike Singletary and Vernon Davis

  34. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

ASJ will be getting plenty of playing time come ATL. Expect the 2 TE set with Brate. He’s going no where. Joe and the rest of u are looking too far into it. I would be upset with that puthetic QB play as well.

  35. orlbucfan Says:

If Koetter keeps ASJ, he better NOT cut Banks!! Banks was more productive at his DB position than ASJ was at his spot. It also had something to do with playing guys going to get cut, 3rd and 4th teams, etc. Bucs were horrific on both sides. Koetter should breeze right through these cuts. BTW, Aguayo made a 50-yarder in the slop. 🙂

  36. VA Tom Says:

He was auditioning for his next job and didn’t want his film to show him missing crappy throws from a third string guy. He just didn’t understand he is about to be released…yet.

  37. Buc1987 Says:

Could be special but wants to be special needs.
