Uphill Fight Of Brandon Myers

Bucs TE Brandon Myers fighting for a gig.

By and large, depending on who and when you speak with folks at One Buc Palace, your top three tight ends on the roster are Cameron Brate, Luke Stocker and tweety Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Left out? That would be veteran tight end Brandon Myers.

Instead of being depressed to be down the food chain of tight ends, the biggest Taylor Swift fan in the Bucs locker room is fired up, motivated and still feels lucky as hell to be collecting a check to play football.

Instead of being down in the dumps, Myers looks at the depth chart as motivation to work and practice harder.

“This is definitely good competition,” Myers said while whiping the sweat off of his brow after his last autograph signing of the morning. “Everybody is friends [in the tight end room] but at the end of the day, it is your job. It is a healthy competition but competitions does bring out the best.

“We are definetly going to push each other. You can only control what you can control but I can control coming out here every day and busting my tail and doing the right things.”

For fans that come out to training camp, Myers admitted he won’t make many splash plays but he will always do the little things that most don’t notice including special teams play.

“I am never going to be the type of guy to come out here in shorts and run around and wow people,” Myers said. “But I think I do enough of the little things, the things that people might not recognize (like special teams) whatever they ask.

“If you are not motivated every day, something is wrong. I come out here every day and am blessed. I play football for a living. I’ve been doing it for eight years. Am excited for the season; am excited for camp. Leave it all out there and see what happens.”

With such depth at tight end, it would not shock Joe if at some point, one of the tight ends is swapped near the end of preseason, if the Bucs do not suffer any injuries at tight end.

DumbASJ is doing his best to secure Myers a spot in this roster. All Myers might have to do is show up for work with that bust-in-waiting as his competition.

I would not write off myeres just yet there is plenty of time left for asj to screw up his opportunity. Wait to the pressure is on before sending myeres packing. asj has yet to prove anything. Reliability and availability are equally as important as talent.

““This is definitely good competition,” Myers said while whiping the sweat off of his bear after his last autograph signing of the morning.”

    Questions:
If Myers is going to bring his bear to training camp, does that mean that Cap’t Fear is getting cut – or is there an open mascot competition? If the bear wins, will he at least wear a patch over his eye and learn to turn his growl into an “ARRRRR”. Why is Brandon Myers such a cruel owner? Can’t he just throw the bear a towel instead of taking the whip to him? Bears get sweaty in the heat – its not the bear’s fault. Don’t lash the poor bear just for sweating. I think PETA should investigate.

Joe already caught the edit – but that line as originally published made me laugh.

Great articles this morning Joe … excited to see this ship sailing away from the dock finally with a new captain and 1st mate onboard. Got a hunch Bucs will do some damage this year.

Hope folks don’t count Brandon Myers out too early. He might be an old man (ya, 30) but I’d take him blocking in the run game over all the TEs except maybe Stocker. If Coach Koetter stresses the run game and out-of-the-backfield passing game like I for one suspect he will this year, Myers & Stocker could play key roles.

  7. Pickgrin Says:

Brandon Myers may yet make this team. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Bucs keep 5 TEs (including Vitale). Surprised but not shocked. They will probably keep 6 receivers too – which means we will probably go with only 3 RBs on the active 53 man roster

  8. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Pickgrin I agree..with the powerhouse duo we have with the RBs..we might just need to keep it at 3..

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

It surprised me that Myers didn’t see the field more last year. He’s a decent TE. I guess that shows the depth and talent we have at the position.

Yes, don’t forgot our draft pick, Vitale. And Westbrook had some good reviews last year. Great to have enough depth for good competition!
