Attention GMC Haters

July 27th, 2016
Haters have to hate.

Haters have to hate.

Joe’s breaking out his dogwhistle this morning. Calling all Gerald McCoy haters! Attention GMC haters! You know who you are.

The four-letter has numbers for you.

Those who claim Bucs Pro Bowl defensive tackle GMC is a slug and the Bucs would be better off waving goodbye and moving on, you may want to read the following paragraph: Per BSPN, in the past five years, only four defensive tackles have averaged at least six sacks a season. Of those four, only one has more sacks than GMC, and that is Geno Atkins of the Bengals.

(Before you type “J.J. Watt,” he had only 5.5 sacks in 2011, his rookie season.)

The numbers are spelled out below in a BSPN graphic.

So why again should the Bucs unload GMC?

gmc haters

Uh-oh! Those inconvenient facts again!!! Roll out the ridiculous statement train. Top 10 DT in the NFL.

  2. SB with Jameis Says:

But he is a nice guy. Let’s trade him to the Panthers.

Welcome Back LUV. I hope you had a Great vacay.

  3. Hawaiian Buc Says:

But how many times has had a strip sack returned for a TD when we were down 6 points and the team was trying to take a knee? Until he does that 4 or 5 times, he’s not any good

  4. tmaxcon Says:

I don’t think any of us who question gmc want him gone that’s a little over the top joe but it would be nice for those sacks to come in the second half of games occasionally. I belueve he had 2 second half sacks last year. Second it would also be nice to see him make more)impact plays but until he gets over being so damn fragile that is likely not to happen. You can quote all tge sack numbers you like but it does not matter if they don’t impact the game at critical times.

  5. dooshlarue Says:

    Yep……..GMC…… a real game changer.
GMC = garbage (time), meaningless contributor.
…….when he’s not hurt of course.

    Keeping the hate alive.

    Go Bucs!
The ones with fire who hate losing……

  6. Warthog Says:

I hate McCoy and like all other McCoy haters my only reason is that he sometimes helps opponents to their feet. Don’t tell me about his stats or sacks or how he’s considered a high quality player by teammates, opponents, GMs and coaches because I hate facts, as do all my fellow McCoy haters.

  7. Lord Cornelius Says:

All those sacks were obviously meaningless while all the other guys sacks were game changers and propelled their teams to winning records!

    Lmao

  8. ndog Says:

Again not a “hater” but where was he in the Washington game, or Rams game or Giants game? All winnable and important games in prime time and what did he do to help stem the tide? Also great players all have signature plays, what is THE play from McCoy that jumps out at any of you? Heck Jameis had 3 in his rookie year. The run vs Atl, the dive against the Giants and the complete domination of Philly. McCoy has played how many seasons and all anyone can throw out there is that he grabbed Matt Ryans ankle at the end of a game, that’s it?!?! How is that being an impactful/great player? Good yes, impactful or great not yet.

  9. dooshlarue Says:

The pic of Old Softie 93 always make me think that he just Sharted himself.

  10. SB with Jameis Says:

Lol at the pure unadulterated idiocy on this thread.

  11. Warthog Says:

Sacks only count in the second half you guys! These first-half sacks are actually only worth a quarter-sack, which means GMC only has like 8 sacks his whole career. Read the figures and get educated, gents – GMC is the worst DT in the league right now.

We should use a net to fish Sapp’s morning bowel movement outta the bowl and sign it to play DT instead. I guarantee you it would be NASTY.

  12. tmaxcon Says:

    SB with Jameis

According to the old saying nice guys finish last…. the choirboy expeeiment under schiano and lovie which was led by GMC did thier best to prove that theroy correct by finishing in the basement consistently. Let me be clear i am not putting all the blame on GMC. I would not want GMC’s agent / public relations manager to blow a gasket this early in the morning. Good player but far from geeat and definitely not above criticism for his faults

  13. tmaxcon Says:

Hawaiian you do a great job as gmc public relations manager and agent especially with all the losses and injuries to justify for such an elite game changer like gmc

  14. Warthog Says:

Man I’m just so angry that the Bucs drafted a solid DT. How dare he be merely good? I DEMAND A HALL OF FAME PERFORMANCE EVERY GAME MCCOY.

  15. Warthog Says:

“According to the old saying nice guys finish last…”

See, this tmaxipad guy gets it! It isn’t about stats or sacks, it’s about the dumb idea that football players have to be mean a$$holes in order to perform! We don’t need evidence! We have “old sayings”!

FIRE MCCOY. HE IS RUINING THIS TEAM BY BEING TOO NICE.

  16. DallasBuc Says:

He is good some of the time. He is paid like his play is great. No one here is mistaking McCoy’s play for greatness.

  17. martinii Says:

I’m no expert but i think if McCoy would have had a little help from the rest of the D-line, maybe he would have had 50 sacks and 3 striped fumbles that he would have returned for TD’s. We base all of our assumptions on the word, “If.”

  18. BucFan20 Says:

Players around here will always be measured by Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, Barber and Rice. Unless they are the second coming of those players and that memory they will never be considered worth a crap by the fans that were here at that time. And until the fans die off from that time i will allways be that way. That is what is happening to GMC.

  19. BucFan20 Says:

    ^it

  20. K2 Says:

Thank you Joe for supporting the GOOD BUCS! I hope he has his best year ever!

  21. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @tmaxcom,

It’s funny how you always get our panties in a wad when I defend him from ridiculous hate. Have I ever once said he is Warren Sapp? Have I ever once said he’s a Hall of Famer? I have not. I do know he’s probably the best player on our team (hopefully Jameis will overtake him this year). At worst he is the 3rd best 3 technique in the league. There isn’t another player ranked that high at his position on our team. It’s stupid and irritating to hear the same ignorant nonsense from the same 3 people over and over and over again, when every single fact you can pull up points the other direction. It’s as if you really believe you are some kind of great football mind, and EVERYONE else knows nothing (you know, those guys that vote him to Pro Bowls and the top 100. Not to mention Bucs coaches and players who constantly mention his name as a leader, as well as opposing coaches.) But nah, you’ve got all the knowledge, and you really believe it. That’s all fine and dandy, but for you to think that any of us would ever listen and change our mind due to an anonymous poster of JBF, you clearly think too highly of yourself. Get some credentials and maybe we’ll talk.

  22. Kobe Faker Says:

    Should have drafted Sheldon Rankins

going to be tough watching Rankins and Vonn Bell twice against us when they sould have been our guys growing together with Jameis

  23. DB55 Says:

And a good morning to you too. I might has well change my name to gmc-h8r. The question is -So why again should the Bucs unload GMC?

I’ll just leave this here, ty and good day.

    http://www.tampabay.com/sports/football/bucs/gerald-mccoy-says-bucs-defense-has-earned-title-of-being-soft/2203445

Do you hear the words coming out of his mouth?

  24. Dave Says:

Haters will hate and remain ignorant.
Reality is with any kind of outside pass rush he would be (conservatively) averaging 9 + sacks a year with the he disrupts the middle.

  25. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @DB55,

What exactly is your problem with what he said there? Seriously, I have no idea.

  26. DallasBuc Says:

Whining and calling critics of his play “haters” is lazy, ignorant and a classic example of looking the other way. Funny that happened a lot when a very few of us here were critical of the horrendous talent evaluation and decision-making of incompetent Lovie Smith. Seems just about everyone has changed their tune on that one!
McCoy is good and nowhere near great. Any objective observer of stats or game film would agree.

  27. Joe Says:

Lee Roy Selmon always helped people up and often worried about hurting a quarterback from a hit. Never ever heard that should have been grounds for him to be dumped.

  28. DB55 Says:

“I was sitting in bed (Monday morning) thinking this frustration level I have with myself right now feels like what I had during my first and second year in the league,’’ McCoy said. “There’s not a fan, a coach or a media member who’s more frustrated with me than myself.’’

The source of McCoy’s great frustration, which might have reached a peak late Sunday when he left the Bucs locker room without speaking to reporters after Tampa Bay’s 32-18 loss to the Giants, is a three-game drought in which he’s mostly failed to make the impact expected of him.

Though his playing time has actually increased, from approximately 70 percent of the plays to nearly 90 percent, McCoy failed to record a sack and contributed only four tackles to a cause in which the Bucs lost twice despite an offensive output strong enough to have won all three games.

    ———————-
The best part is those 4 tackles were a season high for the best DT in the league. The best often injured always has his feeling hurt DT in the league. Charmin, Charmin, Charmin, Charmin that boys up to something nah he just bluffing.

    https://www.joebucsfan.com/2015/11/frustrated-gmc-breaks-silence/

  29. head ball coach dirk Says:

whats with this nonsense of second half sacks? usually the team is down by 17 by the time the offense gets their second or third possession of the game. the TEAM is garbage. mccoy is the best player(and lvd although he misses a crap ton of tackles and did absolutely nada last season but i still love him and his lower lip)

gmc is a top 5 dt in the league. suh has 0 meaningful sacks. same as dareus. atkins? dont really think hes causing 5 strip sacks for td’s

you guys are a joke. esp tmax who hopes mccoy can get injured just so he can be right. and you call yourself a fan

but but but 2nd half sack dur dur dur.

put gmc on the bucs 99-02 and he has 40 sacks.

  30. tmaxcon Says:

    Hawaiian

Let me be clear, i dont get my panties in a wad. I just find it highly entertaining. I respect your passion for defending your favorite player / client. You are actually one of my favorite posters and have said that to you before over the years. We just disagree on Mccoy.

  31. tmaxcon Says:

    head ball coach dirk

Dont be an aresehole…. i dont want any player to get hurt… history proves he cant stay healthy and is hurt every year he has played. Dont make crap up. Never once have i wished injury on anyone but to deny he is not always hurt is ludicrous

  32. DB55 Says:

    @hawaii

What’s up buddy, long time no see. How’s life? Great I hope. To answer your question I’ve selected a quote for you.

“For us as players, we just have to have a much more of a killer mentality.”

McCoy said the Bucs have made too many excuses: new scheme, injuries, breakdowns. He wants players to take more accountability

    ——
This is all I’ve been saying from day one. He soft, he don’t make plays outside the first 8mins of the first qrt and ya make waaaaayyyyyyy too many excuses for him.

I trust Hayes is gonna set ya straight very soon and when he does I’ll be here like uhm I tries to told ya.

  33. Buccfan37 Says:

GMC is not Sapp, who is since Sapp played for the Bucs? I get the opinions who constantly question his effort and value. But, GMC ain’t going nowhere, don’t try to send him nowhere, don’t look for him to go nowhere, because he’s not going anywhere.

  34. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @DB55,

So in your eyes a guy who played an entire season with a torn rotator cuff, and half the season with a broken hand, is soft? Or are you saying he’s soft because he got hurt in the first place?

As for making excuses, I don’t have to make any excuses. He produces, year in and year out. I mean, read the damn graphic on this here article! As they say, “The proof is in the pudding”. There is literally no credible expert that agrees with any of what you are saying. No teammates, no coaches, no ex-coaches, no opponents, nobody. You don’t get elected captain if you are soft and don’t make plays (not all plays show up in the stat sheet. Case in point, go back and watch the NO game in week 2 last year and see what he was doing the entire game with not much stats to show for it). The guys who are paid to play and coach know how good he is, so I really don’t have to defend him or make excuses for him. And for the record, if everyone criticized Lavonte or Jackson or Doug, I would equally defend them (and I have). Now if you want to criticize the Bowers, Jenkins, and Dontae Dyes of the team, I’m all for it.

  35. ndog Says:

So I am still waiting, what are those memorable plays from McCoy gang?

  36. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @ndog,

How about the play on Matt Ryan last year in OT? That memorable enough for you? Of course, I’m sure you’ll make an excuse as to why that doesn’t count. You do realize he’s a DT, not a QB, right? He’s not Sapp, but I can’t think of a memorable play for Sapp either (maybe the hit on the GB offensive lineman).

  37. LargoBuc Says:

You can’t just invalidate McCoys numbers because of when in the game they take place. Very seldom are any elite DT’s sacks at their highest in the fourth quarter, or third down. If you look into it, Atkins, Suh, Cox, Short, its not like most of their sacks come at the times mentioned above. So McCoy shouldn’t be harped on when other top DT’s shouldn’t be considered “great” by that same criteria. It’s just unrealistic. Especially in todays NFL. The only DT who can make that Von Miller, JJ Watt type of impact would be Aaron Donald. And you would likely disapointed if you were to break down what down and quarter his sacks took place.

  38. DB55 Says:

    Hawaii

Maybe you’re missing the point, you know English is my second language so my bad.

McCoy said he and the def earned the title of “soft” bc of their play. McCoy said there are too many excuses including injuries and scheme.

McCoy said “There’s not a fan, a coach or a media member who’s more frustrated with me than myself.’’

McCoy said he got his feeling hurt and stormed out of the locker room before the media session.

McCoy said he likes Charmin over the 2ply brand, lol, he didn’t say that but I was on a roll.(get it-a roll) Lmbo, but hey if the almighty buc fanbase says I’m wrong then se la vita.

  39. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s hilarious that one of the best players on the team generates this much vitriol, and for no good reason outside of perception.

I’m glad McCoy’s a Buc! If you have a problem with that, too bad!
    TOP 10 DT IN NFL!

  40. tmaxcon Says:

McCoy defenders are like politicians they talk in circles with the we are lucky to have him, top 5 dt(subjective), good in the community, meaningless pro bowls with a flawed voying system, or the 1 or 2 plays he made over the course of a 6 year injury plagued career. Name calling and accusing people of being animated when in fact its the defenders are the ones whose panties get all waded up. Accusung people of being haters because theyd like to see more from a high paid pro player which he himself says he needs to do more. These are pro athletes not pop warner kids. therefore critiquing thier faults or criticism for poor or inconsistent play is fair game. Hater has zero meaning at all….

  41. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Yeah, us crazy defenders who like to point to concrete stats, as opposed to those who like to point to their worthless opinions. I mean, I’m sure the Pro Bowls are because the voting is flawed, just like the voting is flawed for the Top 100 players. And just like the voting is flawed for the All-Pro team (which he’s made twice – once as a first team and once as a second). I’m sure coaches speak of him first because they just like his personality. I’m sure guys that do this for a living supporting him do it because he does a lot in the community. You’ve got it all figured out tmaxcon.

No one is saying he’s got no room for improvement. No one is saying he’s Warren Sapp. No one is saying he’s perfect. But of all the things to complain about this team, he’s so far down the list it’s hilarious. Yet he’s the one so many “fans” continue to blast over and over again, while others get a pass. It makes no sense to me, and no matter how many times you make excuses for cold hard facts, it never will. But just keep on keeping on. It makes for a little fun of JBF.

  42. Bucsfanman Says:

tmax- This is the year (I hope!)!!! There are some lofty expectations as to what a DT should be and maybe that’s fair but I think they’re a little unachievable. That’s been my contention.
I get it, he’s a good player who some think is paid as a great player. Thus, the expectations differ from what we actually receive. You are clearly and ALWAYS entitled to your opinion.
He’s been a good player IMO. With better talent around him and a “better” scheme, I think he can bolster his resume.
Politician “speak”…..maybe?! Top 10 DT, not subjective.

  43. LargoBuc Says:

There’s only a handful of DTs that I would take over McCoy. Think about how bad our DEs have been the past six years. They get McCoy at 3 tech occupying interior linemen and none have been able to take advantage of that, except Michael Bennett and to a lesser extent Jac Smith. It’s not so much that McCoy needs help, the numbers show that he does not, but the defense as a whole needs that pressure from somewhere other than the strong b gap.

  44. ndog Says:

So far I have one play in 6 years someone can remember and by the way I mentioned that one in my first post. Still waiting….

And by the way if you cant think of a memorable play from Sapp you have not been watching as he took out two hall of famers in one game that set the franchise up the greatest run in our history. Our how about the playoff game where he almost beat GB and Farve by himself with pressure. Again I am not comparing the two just saying if those plays are not memorable then you need to get a new sport.

  45. DB55 Says:

    Well hot diggity dog.

It’s appears that the only person comparing gmc to Sapp is in fact gmc.

And as for Jameis talking to him privately and asking him to be a DIFFERENT type of leader, golly geez beaver whatever could he mean? Certainly wouldn’t need any chances from the top (10 today 15 tomorrow) DT in the league. Certainly not from the “best” player on the team. What in the world was gmc talking about bc according to his fanboys there’s nothing to fix.

  46. BucTrooper Says:

A lot of playoff domination in that group……..

  47. DB55 Says:

Aww man just heard the video again. Lolololololol

The fanboys are gonna need a very larger fork n knife to eat that huge crow. Maybe if you cook it with some pineapple it will taste better. Lolololololol

  48. tmaxcon Says:

Stop it DB you are a hater….. lol

  49. DB55 Says:

    Tmax

You’re a hater and apparently so is Jameis. Lol. Did you see gmc’s press conference? I’m still crying (laughter) over here. He said “he needs me to be a different kind of leader”. Why on earth would Jameis need him to be a different kind of leader? #CharminCharminCharminCharmin.

  50. tmaxcon Says:

I saw the video… it was comical at best… i guess there is no denying who jameis was referencing in his final post game rant last year.

  51. tmaxcon Says:

    DB55

There is a lot better ways to spend a 100 million dollars

  52. LakeLandBuc Says:

And Aaron Donald has 116 tackles and 20 sacks in two seasons, but we passed on him for Mike “Butterfingers” Evans.

  53. Bucsfanman Says:

tmax and DB55- You guys need a non-GMC hobby! Who else can we talk about? ASJ? Nope, played out! Murphy? “Hello…..(echo)….” No. Verner’s getting paid a lot of money. Perhaps?
I’m done. You guys are impossible! 🙂

  54. DB55 Says:

    Hey Tmax

How you like your crow? You can Bbq it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it, dey’s uh crow kabobs, crow creole, crow gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There’s pineapple crow, lemon crow, coconut crow, pepper crow, crow soup, crow stew, crow salad, crow and potatoes, crow burger, crow sammich. That’s -that’s about it.

  55. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucsfanman

Uncle Joe has not given us any ammunition lately to bash my other favorite target the legendary 5-13 heartless backup Mike Glennon. Hopefully soon though….

  56. Bucsfanman Says:

DB55- What crow are you talking about? I love me some crow…..when warranted of course.

  57. tmaxcon Says:

I prefer raw uncooked crow chased with bud light

  58. Bucsfanman Says:

tmax- Never mind! Nothing to see there! Please continue….

  59. Bucsfanman Says:

Bud Light?!!! Why not a Zima while you’re at it?!!! That’s not beer. You need something like an IPA with 15-20% ABV for that type of crow!!!

  60. DB55 Says:

    Bucfanman

Somebody said But of all the things to complain about this team, he’s so far down the list it’s hilarious.
    ——–
But apparently Jameis thought it was high enough on the list to go “complain” to gmc to his face. Boya!

I just find it funny how clueless some of you guys are.

“I want a bunch of guys that are going to play hard-nosed, emotional football.” – Dirk Koetter

  61. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“And by the way if you cant think of a memorable play from Sapp you have not been watching as he took out two hall of famers in one game that set the franchise up the greatest run in our history. Our how about the playoff game where he almost beat GB and Farve by himself with pressure. Again I am not comparing the two just saying if those plays are not memorable then you need to get a new sport.”

    ——-

So injuring 2 guys is a memorable play to you? Then you proceed to talk about an entire playoff game, yet somehow call that a memorable play? I’m so confused, and I think you are too. Again, no one is saying he’s Sapp. There’s no one in the game today that is Sapp on any team. We have not been a winning team in a long time. McCoy has had huge games. He had 3 sacks in one game (and should have had a 4th). But games in September and October aren’t going to be as memorable as games in January and February.

  62. Hawaiian Buc Says:

This has gone from funny to plain sad. There isn’t anything he can do to make some of you “fans” happy. You will take everything he says and does and twist it to fit your agenda. You say he doesn’t want to win, yet when he is so upset he leaves the locker room without speaking to reporters, you say he’s being a baby. You say he’s jealous of Winston, yet when he listens to Winston, he’s soft. If he doesn’t have 4 sacks every 4th quarter, you’ll say he disappears. I’ve had fun indulging in this nonsense the last couple days, but it’s become tired. I still believe maybe he wouldn’t sign your Spider-man underwear, so you are holding a grudge. Maybe if you would have taken it off you would have had a better chance of an autograph.

  63. Bucsfanman Says:

Well DB55, consider yourself vindicated then! Far be it for me to levy criticism on those who questioned GMC’s value and heart now that Jameis has asked him to step up! All hail Jameis!

Still top 10 DT in the NFL.

  64. tmaxcon Says:

    DB55

I was making fun of joe with the bud light…. i am a Deschutes mirror pond guy

  65. tmaxcon Says:

    Hawaiian

Its ok we all dont share the same view of your favorite player. Just as we cant convince you of his major short comings its ok you can not convince everyone he is perfect

  66. Bucsfanman Says:

Wait! You mean after Jameis touched his shoulder with his golden football orb GMC’s not perfect?!
    Now I’m really confused!

  67. Chris Says:

That play by Sapp, on a reverse , when he didn’t know if Young kept it or gave it to Rice was a signature play by Sapp and put the NFL on notice that we were no longer the Creamsicle Bucs with the winking Pirate. It turned a franchise around Hawaiian, maybe you weren’t in Tampa at the time.

  68. Chris Says:

But yeah, when your a turd sandwich of an organization for more than ten years, you need some nasty and fire in you to turn things around, maybe we finally have with the players we’ve drafted in the last two drafts

  69. BigHogHaynes Says:

SB/J: unadulterated idiocy, how about Trump like stupidity! Simple as that !

  70. Buccaneers Says:

You guys have taken your hate of Gerald and your hate of the haters and turned it to hate towards each oher. The whole comment section has become very childish. Think you guys should get a bpowl of ice cream.

I did hear that GMC doesnt make impact plays. If you dont think a sack is an impact play your about clueless……and if you think a sack is the only impact play a DT can make you a azz.

  71. tmaxcon Says:

    BigHogHaynes

Stick to defending lovie your too ignorant to discuss big boy topics like politics.

  72. DB55 Says:

You ever get punched in the gut so hard you can’t breathe? Lmao. The silence is deafening. Lmao

  73. joeblockedlme Says:

Justin Smith had 34 in from 2001 to 2005 and made a lot less money. He did not allow the QB to survey the field and complete passes at will. GMC #’s just do not add up to anything significant. Aaron Donald does not have as many sacks as J.J. Watts, but Donald affects every play like Watts. You do realize that J.J. Watts has 67 sacks over a peroiod of five years?

  74. joeblockedlme Says:

    Joe,

    Why did you block loggedontosay?

[Didn’t block. You seem to be using a new IP address, which is why it was sent to moderation. — Joe]

  75. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Wow I wonder what topic gets Joe Buc fan bloggers rowled up the most?? Lol it doesn’t matter how many quality stats and points u make about McCoy, ppl are still gonna a hate on him no matter how good he is. I can’t imagine another fan base that does that to one of there best players. It really is sad when u think about it. It will be interesting to hear sll the excuses when u actually gets sum pass rush for the edges this year and breaks 10 sacks. Ppl cry about him being so nice and helping guys up, we’ll if u think about it, if he can average 8.5 sacks every year without that dog mentallity, that shows how good he really is imo.

  76. BigHogHaynes Says:

Cheerleader DB55: Ignorant is what Tmaxcon wakes up to every morning ( his better half) my gut was hurting, so I took a Tmax, feels fine now!
