All Eyes On Jameis

Jameis discusses his second year with Dirk Koetter.

It’s the same. Yet it’s new.

For America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, he returns with his personal quarterback guru for a second year, Dirk Koetter.

Yet so much is different. Lovie Smith is gone. Koetter now runs the show. So Joe asked Jameis if he felt like he’s taking an advanced step in his second year with Koetter in the NFL, or if with so much new and different, does he feel like a rookie all over again?

Jameis remarked being a rookie all over isn’t a bad thing.

“I think that you always have to have that rookie mentality,” Jameis said. “Because like I said, you never have arrived, and I know Coach Koetter is going to pull that out of us every single time. Coach [Mike] Bajakian, his main message his focus. I have to stay focused, I can’t think about ‘What was it like being a rookie last year?’ I have to think, like, ‘What is it going to be like facing the Philadelphia Eagles in our first preseason game? How can we win that game? What do I need to do for us to win that game?’”

Man, you have to have some sort of inner drive if in July you are already worried about winning a preseason game. Guess that is why Jameis is Jameis and why his teammates crow about him so.

Joe sort of likes Jameis’ thoughts. As a rookie, you want to prove yourself. It sure doesn’t sound as if Jameis is resting on his 4,000-yard passing season in his NFL debut year. And that’s a damned good thing.

Jameis seems to echo what Vince Lombardi famously said, “[W]e will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.”

They don’t call it the Lombardi Trophy for nothing. I was a big fan of the Pack when they were first SB champs. On another note, I sure do miss the ability to enlarge the pics atop each article and of course the Hooters page.

Joe you’re the best man . Non stop coverage & usually solid opinions. They need to give you some kind of very prominent sports journalism award. The city of Tampa underappreciates you Joe, but the fans, yes the fans worldwide, you have us for life my friend.

    BennyBucs:

    HaHa!

Seriously, thanks for the kind words. Very much appreciated and thank you for your support. Joe doesn’t need a key to the city, but a cold beer from Bob Buckhorn would be nice. 🙂
