Gerald McCoy: “My Laugh Of The Day”

Blasts credibility of ESPN report

Gerald McCoy has fired back at ESPN, specifically in response to the arrows shot at him today by Falcons beat reporter Vaughn McClure.

In short, McClure wrote that sources have told him McCoy was down on Lovie Smith’s defense and McCoy “didn’t always work his hardest.”

The four-time Pro Bowler took to Twitter this afternoon to wag a finger at the media.

Good for McCoy for not sweeping this inflammatory accusation under the rug.

For the record, McCoy has yet to dispute, via Twitter, McClure’s claim that he had “issues with the scheme” of Coach My Scheme.

What could anyone possibly take issue with regarding Lovie Smith’s defense?!!!

  2. pick6 Says:

i can at least understand some of the criticisms lobbed Gerald, even if i don’t necessarily agree. However, it has never even been rumored that he isn’t dedicated, and given how badly all these reporters misrepresent Lovie’s failures in Tampa, I’m not about to assume GMC’s work habits are the one area where they magically know more about this franchise than reporters and fans who scoop up every speck of bucs news and rumors

  3. Dooshlarue Says:

Wow he even responds to criticism like a loser.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

    What a weak response. Figures.

  5. LakeLandBuc Says:

GMC has been with the Bucs for 6 seasons, this is his 4th Head Coach. The team quit on Rah ( and he was a part of the team). They hated Schiano scheme, and hated his coaching style. They hated Lovie defense and they didn’t show much effort. And for the last 5 seasons, we have been the BOTTOM FEEDER of the NFC South. GMC has been the best player on a bad team, that’s not saying much.

  6. pick6 Says:

i’m curious what sort of badarse cool-guy response doosh and 1987 had in mind. maybe he should’ve started insulting people’s moms like ASJ. or maybe he should talk all tough on the internet like so many others do to\about him

  7. tmaxcon Says:

    LakeLandBuc

might be the most accurate post in JBF this year

  8. Buccaneers Says:

Gerald should be laughing. And he said it right by signing off. And at the end of the day he should care and I bet he doesn’t. What he should care about is what his linemates think of him, they know what’s up.

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

Winning will get rid of all this nonsense. The ultimate cure for what ails Buc fans.

  10. jb Says:

Good for GMC! McClure’s simply a hater and a diehard Falcon fan….so much for his credibility.

  11. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I saw that report and was wondering how gmc would respond. Laugh of the day. Throw that shade gmc,

  12. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Jameis knows who the weak links are. When was the last time you saw a pic of him and Geraldini together or Jameis raving about him?

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The credible source was Lovie’s Son…..

  14. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Word is Koetter has Winston gauging Tim Tebow in Orlando to see if he is willing to come in for a tryout????

Well…I guess I’d take him for a backup over Johnny Football.

  15. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @Scotty in Fat Antonio

When was the last time, or how often, do you see Winston posing for photos with any of the defense????

    Get real, man.

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Remember, people, Gerald played through TWO INJURIES most of the year last year. HE was nowhere near 100%.

And yet, he had to work ethic to keep playing.

  17. NashvilleBuc Says:

    Gmc trolls still boring.

  18. K2 Says:

Gerald is one of the first guys on the field every day. Let’s have that report do half the work the McCoy does and then he can do a re-write.

  19. BigMacAttack Says:

    Class Act. Well played Gerald.

  20. ndog Says:

None of this matters only production. Now he has 2 young d ends to play with, a vet d end and 2 vet d tackles to play with. A pro bowl linebacker, and young good linebacker, and at least 2 maybe 3 good corners. Time for the excuses err reasons for the lack of production to stop. To me this year is make or break as he has all of the above AND a good offense to work with. Just play ball and produce!

  24. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @BucBonzai

I’ve been after Tebow for over a year. Not to play backup but to TRULY play Superback. Vitale is faster…somewhat stronger…but Tebow can throw it.

Tebow is certainly a good enough athlete (not an NFL QB arm but capable of making throws in the NFL) to keep defenses honest…Tebow can run the ball..he could block..he could catch and imagine the New England style double pass from Winston to Tebow to Bell….TOUCHDOWN TAMPA BAY!

The Bucs PR dept would be orgasmic. A former Heisman trophy winning Seminole throwing the ball to a Heisman trophy winning Gator. As someone without a dog in the Gator-Nole fight I love it. LMAO

    ……………………………..
Administrations AND Tebow should have been able to think outside the box like us SP years ago. Tebow should have been open to changing positions. The more times you get the ball in a “Playmakers” hands the better off you are. Why be restricted to a ‘position’ when you are faster than skill players that weigh 80 pounds less than you.

  28. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

GMC shoulda said ask “matt ryan when i flatten his ass next year in the new dome in atlanta” but gmc chuckles and is a fake leader and minimal diff maker

  29. Dave Says:

Some of you are such fricking losers it is ridiculous. McCoy is a top DT in the league. He is known to work his azz off. He reshaped his body one offseason to be better. He’s a class act who takes the high road and does a lot of charity.
Yet some of you think he’s a loser because why?
Because he doesn’t walk around like an assss looking pissed off at life?
Because he doesn’t respond like a thug?

    Bunch of pathetic losers projecting

  30. Clodhopper Says:

I make it policy to not believe someone when they say the phrase , if you know me, or any variation of that. It always just feels forced and phoney.

  31. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @SB

Agree about Tebow. I think he really hosed himself by not considering other positons. Then again perhaps he’d rather do TV if he can’t play QB….and he can’t play QB in the NFL. He had a good but not great college passing career…you have to have a consistently accurate arm to be a franchise QB in the NFL.

But Timmy has size, heart, and is a good athlete. He has real possiblities…just not at QB.

As for GMC…I like him…not my fave…but I’m not one of his haters that’s for sure.

Look at the bright side. This is great news for us. Think GMC is going to be motivated this year? He’s got something to prove for sure. If he stay’s healthy and the rest of the DL produce as hoped for…GMC is going to have a career year and double digit sacks at last.

  32. Arturo Says:

Vaughn McClure used to be the beat writer for the Bears when he worked for the Chicago Tribune. He is ‘friends’ with Brian Urlacher and Urlacher loves Lovie. You also have Major Wright, Chris Conte, & Henry Melton to choose from as ‘sources’. Besides, unless GMC explicitly said at some point ‘I am not working my hardest’, how would anyone know that?! That is a completely subjective opinion and not something for which you’d need a source. McClure is obviously working his ties to the Bears with his new gig in Atlanta to make a name for himself.

  33. Buccaneers Says:

Let’s just go ahead and replace GMC with Bowers……..you all will expect less and you’ll get less. Problem solved right? Wait….hold up….. I forgot we need a scapegoat and need GMC. Your displaced anger about a decade of losing isn’t mirrored by Gerald so he fits the bill. Don’t worry I am just as angry. Difference is I’d like more pro bowl caliber players like GMC, not just scapegoat the one consistent probowler we do have because he can’t single handily carry an eleven man defense.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Amazing how many of these so called Bucs fans just want McCoy to fail because they think he’s too nice, yet these same dullards are the first to get upset at Cam posing. They’re very boring people. Anywho 4 pro bowls means something, in particular when you’ve consistently been on awful teams. McCoy isn’t Sapp, neither is anyone else, it doesn’t mean McCoy isn’t extremely good and one of the best DT in football.

  35. mike10 Says:

    “team leader” and “hard worker”.

  36. Loggedontosay Says:

I do not think he should be laughing.

  37. Architek Says:

No the ESPN writer should be held accountable and the outlet should not allow such disingenuous work. It’s very unprofessional and he should be publicly made to apologize.

  38. Chris Says:

Same kind of laughter Gerald had in the corner of the locker room when Jameis went ballistic after the last game of the year .

  40. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

What a shmuck, just trying to make a name for himself in ATL. There probably still mad because they got sweep by our Bucs last season. Lol. 4 real tho, this guy plays through injuries all season and doesn’t complain or make excuses and still almost ends up with double digit sacks for crying out loud!! There no doubt in my mind he works his @$$ off every day. But the scheme thing may be sum what true, there wasn’t alot of players that did like the scheme. That was obvious tho.

  41. Pvine Says:

Why would anyone believe anything BSPN says? Reminds me of our government.

  42. Rrsrq Says:

Gerald had to learn how to laugh, otherwise he would be cursin half of these Bucs fans out. Everyone knows he is not Sapp, bu he still a top DT in this league that has had 7-8 different position coaches

Side Bar: What about Sapp’s 99 Season??

Sapp & Brad Culpepper accounted for 19.5 sacks from the interior that in 99’

While Defensive Ends – Marcus Jones, Chidi Ahanotu & Steve White only accounted for 14.5 on the outside.

It was an amazing year. And even though there’s been a few scattered similarities, like this in leagues history – its not the norm. No ones ever been able to get consistent pressure from the interior. Year In – Year Out. Without major assistance from the outside rush
