Louis Murphy: Racism Follows Jameis

Louis Murphy speaks out

Censorship is everywhere.

Newspapers quash stories because they believe they don’t serve readers’ interests. Legions of reporters are stifled because editors fear backlash.

Welcome to America, land of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

There’s plenty swirling today about Jameis. Louis Murphy was quoted in a long feature lauding Jameis’ work in the community and at Murphy’s recent football camp in St. Pete. Alex Kennedy was the author for The Undefeated. There are plenty of quotes from teammates and it’s a worthwhile read.

But what’s missing from the story is stunning and sad. Kennedy’s work was heavily edited, with bold quotes from Murphy being removed.

Kennedy, per Sporting News, felt compelled to share what was cut with their publication. You can read it all here. Murphy is disturbed because he believes Jameis isn’t given a fair shake in the media because he’s a black man. There are Johnny Football analogies and more.

Joe’s interest lies in the removed Murphy quote below:

“Racism is still prevalent today,” [Murphy] said. “I don’t want to get into it too much, but yeah, [Jameis] deals with stuff (in rival stadiums). Everybody deals with stuff. Racism is still alive. It’s real.”

This isn’t Murphy spouting an opinion. It’s him reporting that Jameis and other players deal with racist garbage on the road.

Will the NFL address it? Is the NFL addressing it? How are they addressing it? How much will Jameis be forced to endure? Is Team Glazer demanding action at the league level? That’s the stuff Joe wants to know.

There’s more to protecting the franchise, Jameis, than just beefing up the offensive line.

Anyone who follows European soccer knows what many black players have endured in the 21st century. Stunning stuff in the modern world, or to those who only pay attention to American sports.

Joe hopes Murphy will be able to speak out after this season and report that the racism hurled at Jameis and others has died, or at least cut down considerably.

I don’t worry about what opposing fans are saying in their stadiums.

Where I see and saw the real racism with Jameis was with the way his story was covered before and leading up to the draft. The way that people even here on this board described him as a “thug” with “gun issues” because he had a BB gun fight. People comparing him to JaMarcus Russell for one reason and one reason only.

I doubt it joe….it only gets worst with wins….and we both hope jameis wins a ton of games….before last season I would hear people say, yeah I like cam…but once the “w” started to roll in that all changed….cam has been dancing since his uf days….now people call him a thug….childish and immature yeah but thug, get outta here….

I’ve been to plenty of nfl games and the racist things being said to players are pretty normal imo….I give them so much credit for being a professional and smart enough to know that people are more than likely drunk and its nothing personal(which is not an excuse)….do I like it no and I’ve gotten physical with a few people before, during and after a game when a racist comment was made…got escorted out of ray jay for getting into it with a bills fan after ej threw a pick….heck even Russell Wilson has heard it from 9er fans….I played for an HBCU and I heard it when we played UM and our very own USF….

my brother was in attendance vs. the titans and he said when jameis threw that pick to #24 fans behind and in front of him were calling him racist names….his own fans!!….Jameis is wise/mature enough to either ignore the racist comments or let it fuel his fire….I hope im wrong and lou murph comes to joe and says yeah it calmed down a lot but I doubt it….sadly racism is a huge part of Americas identity…GO BUCS!!!!

Doug Williams used to get death threats.

All humans are from Africa originally.

The only difference between a white European, a brown Latino, and an African is how much melanin is in their skin. And melanin levels in our skin depends on how much sunlight we receive. Swedes are white bc they live near the North Pole, Congolese Africans are black because they live near the equator.

We are one race with different shades of skin. We all bleed red and all of our bones are white. Jesus would never condone racism.

So any man who calls himself a christian but has a racist heart, is what I call a hypo-christian.

    One Love.

If you saw the video of Mr. Winston standing on a cafe table back at school screaming VERY NASTY VOLGUR obscenities at a female you would have to wonder. The school removed the video and Mr. Winston has shown a much better side of himself . . I now think that his future will be as good as he is a qb on the bucs team that we all will be proud of.

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

@teacherman- “We all bleed red”, amen brother!
I do wish we could move beyond racism once and for all but as long as ignorant, uninformed bigots continue to teach hatred, we will never move on.
Just look at how sad and inexplicable our world is. People killing each other over ideologies and possessions. There is not a single organized religion in the world that espouses to this hatred of our fellow man.
Kill ’em with kindness Jameis. That’s all you can do.

  6. cdizzle Says:

Though we like to make this about us as much as possible I dont think this is a Jamies specific problem unfortunately. I think he is a man of color who is the face of the franchise and that makes it felt by him more acutely than others. I was living in ATL during the mike vick years and there was plenty of it then too. I’m sure Vick still feels it. This has been a problem in the NFL forever doubt much will be done about it as it is a broader social issue more than anything else.

  7. Brent bull/buc Says:

Johnny football wasn’t accused of a crime. That’s the difference. Johnny football was mocked and raged in every stadium and by the media and coaches like Switzer. Some guys can only see their problems not others. Jamie’s is and will get good press coverage as time passes from his incidents.

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“Johnny football wasn’t accused of a crime.”

    ———-

    Should I tell him?

  9. Brent bull/buc Says:

What a crock. Almost all the pundits had jw #1 on Thor board – FACT. Your focusing on the smal 5 % idiots that compared him to Russell instead of the overwhelming majority who liked his abilities on an nfl level. How irrational.

  10. BigHogHaynes Says:

JAMEIS JAMEIS JAMEIS, Stay strong, be the leader of your team, keep grinding, keep your head up, keep being the LION, and in the face of RACISM you tell them I’ma Bad Man! Where you at my friends The REALIST and my good buddy TMAXCON!!

Which mugshot do you want to use? Smirk or skin?

  12. Buc1987 Says:

    Murphy’s an incompetent #3.

    Uh oh was that racist?

If so stfu. I could care less what you think.

  13. mike n Says:

I’m not really sure how racism is involved. When Johnny was accused of a crime, the Browns cut him and he is now unemployed. Ray Rice was given a 2 game suspension after confessing to knocking out woman and was given a standing O before the tapes were released. Greg Hardy was found guilty by a judge and nothing happened to him until Godell was seen as soft, but then of course he was given a job. JFF has no job, yeah, he was supposed to be great but that was before his latestI think Louis is getting celeberty mixed up w racism. Although, the Glazers were called racist by some in the media after firing Lovie, so whatever.
Trust me, if JW is great this year, you won’t hear anything. JW has proven to have all the goods as a leader. Im glad he’s a buc

  14. Dreambig Says:

Joe – Why did my comment get bounced? It wasn’t even controversial and I didn’t use bad language. Wondering if there are certain key words, particularly around things Winston has been accused of that will get your comment bounced, if those words are used. Is that the case?

  15. Kevin Says:

Some people have no class. If its a stadium filled with white people screaming at a black qb, some a hole is going to scream the black lines out. If its a white qb filled with black fans, some idiot will scream cracker. That wont end. The article being heavily edited is much more serious and should be addresses. Jameis has proven everyone wrong so far and most that were calling him a thug before the draft wont admit they were wrong

  16. Buc1987 Says:

    Kevin….many of them have disappeared.

  17. Trubucfan22 Says:

Yes racism is alive and well in the world. It is a good thing that Jameis has broad shoulders and can carry any of that hate thrown at him. I am not worried about racism one bit. Im an asian man that works with just about all white dudes. I get “racist” remarks thrown my way and and get picked on for being short and yada yada yada. But like the millions and billions of people before me, it takes more than mere words to break me. if people want to be racist, i really don’t care. i don’t even consider name calling racist. Being a racist is hating someone solely based on their race. There is really no such thing as a racist NFL fan. Every team has black players, and they are usually the majority. So if someone was a racist, how could they cheer for a team of mostly black guys to win?

Most of the time these “racist” remarks are merely to try and get under the skin of the opposing players. It isnt right, but it isnt really racism imo. It is just heckling.

  18. Brent bull/buc Says:

@hawaiian I meant manzel coming out of college. He’s out of the league now. He was disparaged all the time by fans media cause he had immature incidents. So did jw. I remember mclenberger the lsu qb. He was mocked every game by Sec fans every game over a sexual assault allegation he had. Idiot fans go after players any way they can. Not just black players.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

I think Winston had to deal with opposing fans with handfuls of crab legs or dressed up like crabs more than racism while at FSU.

Then again we do have people like Murphy who see racism at every turn of event or words being used.

We have them here on JBF too. See if you can spot them…

  20. LakeLandBuc Says:

This is AMERICA, the most racist place on EARTH. This isn’t news ( maybe old news) this has been happen for over 400 years. Just another day in America, when racism ends in America ( then it will become news). Racism exists in all walk of life in America, there’s no way around it. People in America HATE each other, because of the color of their skin. It has nothing to do with your character, education, religion etc ( everything to do with your race). When someone look at your face, they have already formed an opinion of you (instantly).

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

To me still the worst story was of what Joe Jurevicius had to endure!!

  22. feelthepewterpower Says:

Deadspin.com writer was upset the original article omitted things about jameis past…. if they did their research on the facts, they’d see there was no cover-up or conviction – https://hashtagfacts.wordpress.com/2014/10/20/jameis-winston-chapter-3-sexual-assault-accusation/

  23. LakeLandBuc Says:

I’m not speaking of Jameis Winston, I could care less about these athletes, I’m speaking of racism in general.

  24. BigHogHaynes Says:

The worst Buc story is The Doug Williams Betrayed story, I love this post, Murphylays it down like he sees it. Is it a problem? Yes it is and if you stick your head in the sand and hope a storm comes by and blows it away then your part of the problem. If you see it never be afraid to speak on it. Buc 1987 it’s not all that hard to spot, just open your eyes and then listen young man listen! MAN-UP ASJ I want to see you on the field for 85% of the offensive plays this year!!

  25. Buc1987 Says:

Doug Williams was over 30 years ago you silly Sally…

  26. Buc1987 Says:

    Whenever I need a good laugh I tell ya…..

Yes misery makes me laugh too.

  27. BigHogHaynes Says:

You make my point mr Buc1987! Just stating my opinion! You a BucRealist cheerleader now. Ha ha ha ! I found that funny, how about you!,

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    Whatever Reverend Al.

  29. BigHogHaynes Says:

Was that supposed to be funny? Probably not, you need to take a serious look in the mirror!

  30. OAR Says:

    Racism?…..I hate everyone equally!

  31. Brent bull/buc Says:

Racism is everywhere less in USA probably check out some of those African nations. Yikes!! We just have more dramatists here.. Go check out the movie hotel Rwanda.
