Becht Sounds Off On ASJ

June 14th, 2016
Former Bucs TE seems depressed about ASJ.

Former Bucs TE seems bummed out about ASJ.

The stunt Tweety Austin Seferian-Jenkins pulled last Thursday, when he was run from an underwear football practice and then took to Twitter to lash out at fans, and then got lewd and crude about their mothers/wives/girlfriends, seems to have depressed a former Buccaneers player.

Anthony Becht, a noted college and NFL analyst for BSPN and the Buccaneers Radio Network, appeared on WDAE-AM 620 yesterday and seemed disappointed by ASJ’s actions.

Though Becht was quite polite and professional discussing the events of last Thursday, he hinted either ASJ doesn’t understand what it takes to be a responsible NFL player, or he must man up and grow up. Or both.

“A lot of these younger players, they really fail to realize what exactly their job role entails,” Becht said. “If you are a potential starter or a starter, very rarely will you see a starter pushed off the [practice] field because of potentially not knowing what to do. And that is the big question mark: Preparing yourself every single day and wanting to be great and go out there and knowing what to do.

“Those are the No. 1 things I preach when I talk to the rookies. Regardless of what your talents might be, you better understand when you step on that field when the play is called you better go line up in the right spot and do your job.

“It is a privilege to play in the NFL. Take this seriously. This is your job. This is what you are getting paid a lot of money to do. And if you come on the field not prepared or ready to go and if you are being questioned by your coach, that only trickles down to your teammates. I don’t know the particulars of [what led up to ASJ getting tossed and the Twitter meltdown that followed]. But this is his third year. … That’s not a great start.”

No, it is not a great start. Of course, this could all be put in the past if ASJ wants to put it in the past. If ASJ takes his craft seriously and outworks everyone and learns the playbook backwards and forwards, last week’s nonsense will be mostly forgotten.

If ASJ continues to pull the stunts he is known for through his two NFL seasons, last week’s antics will follow him around for the rest of his Bucs days.

    You can’t unteach stupid.

  2. Mike Johnson Says:

Its important not to get to carried away with this ASJ thing. I’m quite sure Buc Personnel have staff in place who have reeled him in and given him a talk. Some players simply mature slower than others. So lets give ASJ the benefit of the doubt and some time to work this out. He will come around. Hell, he has to. If..he wants to play in the league. If not? NEXT man up!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Buried is Social Media instead of the playbook….ASJ is not alone, many aren’t prepared for the workplace…..there aren’t classes on that…sometimes a young person has to learn the hard way…..let’s just hope ASJ learns as a Buc…..he needs to give up his Twitter account and go to Twitter Anonymous Meetings.

  4. 1sparkybuc Says:

I find it hard to believe that he is just that stupid. I think he just wants out and sees this as the quickest way to accomplish that.

  5. MarineBucsFan Says:

What baffles me about ASJ not knowing what he was doing is that this is the same offense from last year and he was out most of the year last season. So what else did he have to do other than rehab and learn the playbook???

  6. SB with Jameis Says:

Toast Jenkins, Houseplant Johnson, now Tweety Bird ASJ

  7. Buccfan37 Says:

If ASJ has quit twitter he could come here to JBF, or maybe this is where he read before and some fans here are the source of his anger. Criticism can pile up until the cork pops.

  8. Bob in valrico Says:

If ASJ realizes he is playing for one of the most TE friendly coaches in the league,he will do whatever it takes.I hope he gets it.

  9. LakeLandBuc Says:

These IGNORANT trolls are not fans, and ASJ didn’t lash out at them. They attacked him on twitter, I didn’t have a problem with ASJ actions on twitter. ASJ did tweet about their wives/girlfriends/mothers, but these PATHETIC trolls actions are a lot worse. They are always attacking people race, culture and heritage. They attacks your photo, your children photos, they are a bunch of CRACKPOTS. They are lower than human waste, a bunch of delusional SOCIOPATHS.

    That’s what Joe thinks.

  11. CalBucsFan Says:

Hey Joe, not being one who plugs in to every social media outlet available, this is the first I’ve heard about ASJs Twitter lashings. A little more detail please.

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

    @lakelandbuc

So the answer is to engage them??? To sink to their level???To fight the fight on their turf???

JW3 told them the blue print last year!!! Dey Sheep, We Lions!!!! The best thing is to ignore them while you step over them!!!! If some “crackpot” can get you off your game and fined, then what is going to happen with someone on the field that is going to hook em!!!!

  13. Buc1987 Says:

LakeLandBuc…everything you just said can be rectified very easily.

ASJ stays off of Twitter. Problem solved for everyone included.

  14. Joe Says:

    LakeLand:

Two wrongs don’t make a right. No defending the jerks on Twitter. Doesn’t excuse ASJ one bit. Just think of the vile stuff Jameis gets on Twitter — daily? He ignores it. Same with GMC.

Bet Alterraun Verner has gotten just as much flack on Twitter. You don’t see him responding like a 12-year old.

  15. Joe Says:

Little more detail??? Joe’s been fairly detailed short of posting the offending Twitters.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic (honestly). If this really is the first you heard of this, just search “ASJ” in Joe’s (free) archives search, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

CalBucsFan …fans attacked ASJ on Twitter and ASJ fired back in a pretty nasty way.

ASJ said vulgar things about a fans wife.

ASJ told a fan to come to One Buc so he could fight them.

As well as a few other things.

  17. CalBucsFan Says:

@Buc1987 Thanks for the summary, just found some of it over on Sanders’ piece over on Bucs Nation.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

Joe….sooooooo true. JW has been outright pummeled on Twitter for 3 years now.

Did he respond back like ASJ? Nope.

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

No worry, legislation is coming where you can’t say anything negative about anyone including government on social media. Free speech will be severly restricted. Defending the lie will be the only truth allowed.

  20. The Buc Realist Says:

Uh oh,,, Buccfan37 is wearing his tinfoil hat so the “government” cannot read his thoughts today!!!!!

  21. unbelievable Says:

LOL realist I think it’s every day.

  22. LakeLandBuc Says:

Buccfan37,.. Do you remember a case we had in Lakeland, back in Sept of 2012. When a bunch of stupid girls bullied a 12 year old girl into committing suicide. They bullied her with text messages, at school and on social media…….these were some words from her mother………….Polk County Sheriff deputies are still investigating the girl’s death, but her family said they fear Sedwick took her own life after more than a year and a half of constant cyber-bullying.

  23. LakeLandBuc Says:

Correction… It happen in Sept 2013…the government should put an end to cyber-bullying by these sick trolls.

  24. The Buc Realist Says:

    @lakelandbuc

I am not familiar with that story, and it sound terrible!!! But as a parent, how do you give a 10 1/2 year old that much social media access and let it go unchecked???

  25. uckinator Says:

Ladies and gentlemen, It’s called “Free Speech”. And yes, it can be nasty, no matter which side is responsible. And no, I’m not saying yelling “Fire” in a movie theator is okay. The “Government should put an end to cyber-bullying”. Sounds like the “Thought Police” have arrived. Just finished a book covering the Revolutionary War. What those patriots went through to allow you the freedom to say what you believe in backed by the Bill of Rights to the Constitution should always be in the back of your mind. Learn your history or you will be doomed to repeat it.

  26. uckinator Says:

Back on topic. Being a 2nd round draft pick, wasn’t ASJ investigated for being a BLOCKHEAD while in college. If he hasn’t learned the playbook with 2 years studying, he either doesn’t care or is dyslectic. Coaches fall in love with athletic bodies, but underestimate what’s going on up in the noodle.

  27. pick6 Says:

he may want out, but forcing your way out like this won’t exactly have GMs lining up to sign you. it’s one thing to clash with a coach or not fit a scheme – other teams might bet on a better fit. but when 75% of the attention you’re getting is for being an embarrassment and you have a reputation for not knowing your job, it’s usually deeper than a change of scenery
