Luke Stocker Addresses Locker Room Response To Seferian-Jenkins

June 27th, 2016
Luke Stocker weighs in.

Luke Stocker weighs in.

Everyone remembers the big June drama at One Buc Palace, when head coach Dirk Koetter ejected Austin Seferian-Jenkins from an underwear football practice, and Seferian-Jenkins proceeded to attack scolding fans on social media.

At best, the Bucs’ third-year tight end was a guy having a rough 24 hours. At worst, he’s a budding menace to the franchise and humanity.

Days after Seferian-Jenkins’ ugly stretch, Joe thought it would be a good time to ask Tampa Bay’s No. 1 tight end, Luke Stocker, about the locker room’s response Seferian-Jenkins recent behavior.

There are so many ways to interpret Stocker’s response, so Joe will simply share the unedited version below. Readers, as always, are welcome to drop their takes in the comment section.

JoeBucsFan.com: How did the locker room handle the Austin Seferian-Jenkins situation with the Twitter [meltdown] and stuff. Was anything said to him?

Luke Stocker: You know, we have great people upstairs. And coaches, they have a great relationship with players, and even the management level, Mr. Licht and everyone, they have a great relationship with players. And so as players, we try to help guys along and put them on the right path, knowing that upstairs, you know, they’re going to put them in the right direction and keep their head in place it needs to be. We’re here for Austin through all those moments. We’re like, ‘Dude, c’mon, let’s go.” He has responded great. He bounced back. I’m sure he had a rough weekend, as I heard. But [minicamp week], man, his head’s in the right place. He’s done great all OTAs. And so, no one is going to be defined by one moment, one slip-up. Like I said, he’s responded well. So we’ll see how he is.

JoeBucsFan.com: Any specifics that anyone particular in the locker room had to say to Seferian-Jenkins?

Stocker: I’m sure everyone in passing mentioned something to him.

If you could somehow combine Stocker’s professionalism with ASJ’s ability you might have a HOF Tight End. Instead you have a backup tight end who’s more known for twitter rants and penalized celebrations than for actual football play.

  2. Cold Brews Says:

Or for spiking footballs at the one yard line. When is this guy going to show some maturity/responsibility? I could care less if he’s on the team in 2017 as of right now

  3. Bigbucben Says:

    Well said Tom. Well said.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Stoker’s comments are pretty clear to me…..ASJ had a moment…..It’s Stocker’s opinion that ASJ “has responded great, has bounced back”

Does anyone know the final outcome on ASJ’s twitter promise….did he shut it down or not?

  5. Cobraboy Says:

Knowing how lockerrooms work, I suspect ASJ took a load of stuff from the guys, some in good humor, some with a sharp stick…and, most likely, had a CTJ with coaches.

    Come to Jameis?

  7. John Says:

Typical answer to a media question. Doesn’t give us anything good. Interviews are almost pointless.

  8. Fsuking Says:

It looked to me like ASJ was on an island at mini camp, nobody talked to him for more than a second. He looked troubled out there too. Dropped three balls before I even got comfortable in my first row, 50 yard line, grass seat. I don’t like him or where his head is at. But if he plays like he should, all will be forgotten

  9. DB55 Says:

    Tbbf

Looks like his last tweet was on 6/18 the same day he said he’d stop tweeting.

    😀

That works, too, maybe even better that what I had in mind!

  11. Rod Munch Says:

ASJ is the most talented receiver we have on the team, and yes that includes Evans. Obviously his main concern is staying healthy, but he has to just calm down. The so-called Twitter meltdown was him trolling some people that were trolling him. I have zero issue with that – it’s the people that want to be fake offended by everything that bother me a lot more than someone making fun of people that are harassing them. Still in this PC world you have to pretend like everyone has a voice and we’re all the same, blah, puke. Unless ASJ is driving to hecklers houses and punching their front teeth in (which to me would be f-ing awesome) I don’t care what words he uses, not so long as he catches the ball.

  12. BuccoBill Says:

Hey “Rod Munch”, What’s your dealers phone number man? I want some of what you’re smokin’!

    Based on what evidence???

Yea- ASJ has flashed a few times – but that’s a pretty ridiculous statement when VJax and Evans are our starting receivers and ASJ only has 42 receptions and 559 yards on his NFL resume.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

    asj….just do your f#$king job….GO BUCS!!!!

  15. Kobe Faker Says:

ASJ read too many of the clippings. The next best young TE to tear up the league lol….and now is told he is going to share the load with 3 other tight ends. No max contract and headlines for ASJ and this immature elitist unskilled “what is routerunning” chump doesnt like it.

He is the Sander Philipse Le Pew of sports blogs

    ———————————————-

“I wanted to be drafted by the Tampa Bay Bucs and play in front of poster Kobe Faker” Sterling Shepard

  16. DB55 Says:

    Lmao Sander Phillips. Good one!

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It seems quite clear to me that Stocker has always displayed a good attitude…..I expect Brate has absolutely no problems in that department……And, you can best believe that Vitale will be fired up and ready to perform.

ASJ would stick out like a sore Carl Nicks big toe is he shows his ass……I expect ASJ to come around and quickly.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo suspects Henkins suffers from “elongated arc envy”…….Pablo and Haboo have elongated arcs….and they do wonders for self-esteem. No amount of Twitter can overcome having a small pee pee”

  19. Rick in Fort Myers Says:

Football is the ultimate team game and to date ASJ’s actions have hurt the team more than they’ve helped.

Regardless of his individual abilities and skills, if he doesn’t play as part of the team, ASJ or any other player is useless to the Bucs’ efforts to produce a winner.

Whether he’s asked to catch passes, block, play on special teams, treat the fans with respect and dignity whether they treat him that way or not or carry the water bucket, ASJ needs to learn to do what the team needs and put his personal feelings and desires aside.

If he can’t make a positive contribution to the team, then he has to go regardless of his size, speed or skills.

  20. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I agree with Red Munch! I don’t care what ASJ does on Twitter!! I want him to ball the way we know he can ball!!

GO ASJ!!! Shut the doubters down!!! I’m on team ASJ!!! and just got his jersey too…just doesn’t fit…too freaking big…and I don’t mean his persona jersey but one from NFL . com…lol…his would be massive on my five feet tall frame..

    –Post of the Week.–

Rick was specifically talking about ASJ as it relates to the NFL, but the same criteria could be (and should be) applied to every person on the planet.

Without some sort of emotional/psychological support structure, NONE of us will realize our full potential. Sadly, some people are too proud to ask for, and truly receive, guidance.

As a fan of the Buccaneers, I hope that ASJ can humble himself and genuinely take to the coaching that is being offered to him, and, ALSO as a fan of the Buccaneers, if it comes to pass that ASJ proves to be not worthy of the efforts on his behalf, then he needs to be shown the door. It’s as simple as that, and I believe our GM sees it that way as well. The days of the “Myron Lewis”-type player are LONG gone. This GM has learned from the most studious, clinical, regret-free front-office types in the league, all the while earning promotions and accolades along the way. While, in contrast, our most recent former GM was a part of the Bucs organization for over a decade before he became GM, so it stands to reason that the more varied and successful influences will prove to be the better of the two paths, with the Buccaneers, and us fans, the real winners.

I’m all in on Jason Licht.

HE is the reason why ALL of these dramatic little episodes from likely-soon-to-be-forgotten players will ultimately prove to leave as little of a wake as possible.

The Name on the Front, not
    The Name on the Back.

The locker room needs to be in peace if the Bucs have any chance of having a good season.

I still think after s,l this drama ASJ bounces back to have a terrific season. Watch and see Buc fans. I’ll be ther to say “I told u so.”

And I think Rod munches comment on ASJ being the most talented receiver we have is not that far off at all. I still don’t think ppl realize how talented this guy really is. He could easily become one of the top 3 TE’s in this league if he really wanted to. But it’s all up to him to choose how great he wants to be.

  25. Atown Says:

Its like everyone wants to uncover a secret hes a young man in our city he hasnt done harm to no one besides people harassing him not police incidents everyone needs to just chill Tony G said he could be best TE in the league might i add this league has Gronk so that should tell you his ceiling

  26. Pablo Says:

This guy is an animal… Belongs in 6 by 9

  27. PRBucFan Says:

    Best receiver? lol.

Has Ms Cleo shown you something the rest of us haven’t seen yet?

If you are behind Luke Stocker on the depth chart. You are…..not good
