Monken Rips Receivers In OTA Drill

Wide receivers coach/offensive coordinator Todd Monken (right) was riled up at practice today.

Buccaneers wide receiver got a verbal whoopin’ today from wide receivers coach/offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

This wasn’t your typical OTA practice moment.

Monken didn’t like the energy in a basic drill about 35 minutes into practice, with receivers running 15 yard out routes one at a time with quarterbacks throwing them the rock.

“Don’t gallop to make sure you’re @%$@*)^ 15 yards” down field,” Monken screamed while pausing the drill.

“Power Cut!” Monken bellowed multiple times while demonstrating.

Yes, the energy picked up after that.

When the drill ended soon after, Monken gave a violent but loving slap on the ass to Andre Davis, an undrafted rookie from the University of South Florida. Davis made a hell of a grab just before Monken’s meltdown.

Monken burst of foul language. Yes, it was more than once, was not something heard during the Lovie Smith administration. Lovie frowned deeply upon naughty words.

There’s a different kind of energy coming from the coaching staff this season, Joe believes. Of course, energy and bad words don’t win games. Never have.

This is the style of coaching and a culture change that I believe will benefit Mr. Evans the most. Glad to hear that we’ve got an Ol’ Yellar on the WR coaching side.

  2. Greg Schiano Says:

More fire and less Lovie!! No, it is not a guarantee of more wins….but the last HC took out the First Team in the last game against the Saints 2 years ago just to assure himself the right to pick Famous Porky. NEVER throw a game…even for the first pick!

If Famous Porky played for Baylor, his HC would be unemployed and he would be doing 20 years!

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Good to see some passion and energy from Bucs coaches, even if it does involve some ‘naughty words’ every now and then.

  5. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Good to see Greg Schiano’s panties are still in a bunch. Need a tissue, Cheryl?

This dude is perfect for ME13. His game is largely predicated on passion and fire. Manne I love this spit.

Well said sir… It makes a huge difference having a qualified wr coach who players can respect versus a personal assistant gifted a nfl wr coaching job.

Joe, I disagree about energy not winning games. Having a high energy team absolutely can and does win games

I am a hometown Buc fan currently A senior at the university of Southern Mississippi and I can tell you 1st hand that coach Monken is a winner and has the same fiery personality as our ole coach Rod Marinelli and this I can tell you for sure. Coach Monk WILL get the best out of our Wr’s!!! Go Bucs!! USMTTT

Thanks for the heads up DaRealist.

That college crap doesn’t work in the NFL. Lets hope this guy knows what he is doing.

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

I’m feeling the Monken energy also, a nice addition to the Bucs offensive coaching staff. I’d like Andre Davis to make the team, though that may be an uphill climb. I remember the USF late comeback at favored Nevada a couple or few years back, he was a big part of that win.

  18. DB55 Says:

Tim Wright is an available FA.

  19. Kevin Says:

Enery helps. It doesnt get the win on its own obviuosly but energy is a must. We see what a difference energy makes with the lightning.

    GO BUCS AND GO BOLTS!!!!!

  20. Tackleblockwin Says:

Maybe make morining practices (before the weather is tougher) something that is earned? Just a thought. Not in Tampa right now but from what I hear the mornings are pleasant.

  21. Joe Says:

Tim Wright is an available FA.

Always good trade bait. Maybe this time Bucs might get someone just a little bit better than sackless George Johnson?

  22. BigHogHaynes Says:

    Gifted Jobs ………………bigots I swear!!

  23. Trubucfan22 Says:

Joe, don’t you mean a kicker that lost us 2 games last season? We traded a pick for george, we traded wright for brindza.

  24. Bucsalltheway Says:

We acquired Kyle brindza for Tim wright in a trade with the lions. George Johnson was an offseason pick up.
