Gerald McCoy: “Jameis Gonna Win MVP”

May 2nd, 2016

Gerald McCoy has been very quiet lately (full story) while delivering a “stay tuned” message to fans.

Today, he elaborated on what “stay tuned” might really mean.

McCoy popped an Instagram video propping up America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, for arriving to work so early in the a.m. It’s produced around the premise that McCoy showed up at One Buc Palace today in the 6 o’clock hour (non-mandatory work) and Jameis had him beat.

“I’m going to tellin’ y’all why Jameis gonna win MVP,” McCoy said. “I’m pulling up to work at 6:25 [a.m.]; he’s already here. I’m tellin’ y’all, stay tuned.”

You can watch the video via the link above.

Joe will say this, arriving to work early means nothing. Josh Freeman used to battle Barrett Ruud to be the first one at One Buc Palace. As Ronde Barber once told Joe in the locker room, Freeman arrived early and got right to work, but it was unclear how smartly Freeman was working.

That’s really the key. Obviously, Jameis is extraordinarily driven and hungry, and has an offensive staff with a clue. That should serve the Bucs well.

MVP in 2016? Joe can’t go there, especially with the Bucs’ current cast of receivers.

Props to McCoy for publicly gushing over Winston.
McCoy is a great DT and great person, but he’s not the kind of leader that Jameis is. Props to him for letting Winston step into that leadership role.

  2. cmurda Says:

Let’s win some games. Preferably enough to qualify for the playoffs before we annoint anyone on this team to the Pro Bowl much less MVP. I love Winston and I don’t for a second doubt that Winston couldn’t achieve it, just not yet. I might sing a different tune if Kenny Bell emerges as a true #3 since the Bucs are banking on it.

  3. Tampa Tony Says:

Improve that accuracy and limit turnovers and it’s possible

  4. Hunter Says:

Cam won it last year did you see his group of Wr’s?

  5. Jeagan1999 Says:

That’s gotta make you excited for what JW will show in year 2!

  6. 813bucboi Says:

practice don’t make perfect….perfect practice makes perfect….GO BUCS!!!

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Arriving early means something as long as you aren’t just coming into work after an all-nighter…..

The good think about arriving early is that you are likely in bed by midnight and we all know that nothing good on the streets happens after midnight….ask Sapp.

  8. Lord Cornelius Says:

Let’s hope Vjax / ASJ / Murphy can stay healthy MOST of the year along with our DT rotation. Those 3 guys were basically MIA the majority of the season.

WR / DT are thin but fine at the top. We have great depth & starters now in the secondary / O-line / QB / LB.

I’m not giving up on ASJ yet. Gerald only played in 19 of 36 games his first 2 years before becoming a top 3 DT the last 4 seasons and only missing 3 total games. ASJ has played in 16 of his first 36 games. Just sayin. He didn’t have injury problems in college. I’ll still be scared any time i see him fall or dive tho lol.

Our D-line looked WAY better early in the year with a fully healthy McCoy / McDonald rotation going on and healthy Jack Smith.

WR/D-line were where injuries hit us hardest last year by far. I think Joe just assumes Vjax/Murphy are likely to be out most the year again by how desperate he is for WR. Just by being healthy we should be much improved and that’s ignoring the signings of Ayers and drafting of Spence.

Still would like to see us get a vet like Roddy White now. I really wanted Mike Wallace when he was available.

  9. Lord Cornelius Says:

Also – while we did not address DT (which i wanted); we at least have DEs who can play there in GHolston & Ayers.

  10. Stanglassman Says:

I love JW3 but I’m with the too soon crowd on this one.

    New Bucs Numbers:
    Hargreaves III, No. 28
    Spence, No. 57
    Aguayo, No. 19
    Ryan Smith, No. 29
    Benenoch, No. 77
    Bond, No. 50
    Vitale, No. 33

  11. tmaxcon Says:

Winston WILL win multiple MVP’s as long as Licht sticks to the rules…

    1. Protect Winston
    2. Give Winston Weapons (not gambles or injury prone local feel good stories)
    3. See rule 1

If Murphy makes the team the bucs are in a WORLD of hurt. Don’t confuse local feel good stories with production. He’s a one trick pony who does not play special teams. He’s a 5 or 6 max NOT a 3…. People need to look up his career stats including the most telling Stat that he has started 2 seasons sitting on the couch and only the bucs came calling. Murphy is always hurt and even Roddy Whites worst season is better than any Murphy has had. WR is scary. ASJ is a joke until proven otherwise and VJAX will miss games. His age and knee issues are getting any better. Those who don’t think WR is a huge need are gambling on a unproven draft pick Bell shows up and produces and a career number 5/6 receiver with a long injury history finds some magic… scary

  13. Abdominal Snowman Says:

There are still going to be plenty of FA released in the coming months plus UDFA and practice squad pick ups. The browns for example drafted 5 receivers and still have plenty more on the roster. There will be some talent in the second wave of FA.

The sky is the limit for JW, I believe he will be very successful but most important is how he handles the success. If he can sustain his Manning like work ethic he will be elite.

  14. D-Rome Says:

I have a minor issue with Gerald McCoy walking on the Buccaneers logo in that short video. When Dave Andreychuk was signed by the Lightning one of the things he did as Captain was to change the attitude of the team by instituting certain rules. One of those rules is that no one was allowed to walk on the Lightning logo in the locker room.

Obviously I doubt that GMC meant anything disrespectful and thought nothing of it. I think it’s the little things that the leaders of the team need to instill to change the culture.

  15. Guzzie Says:

Wonder what Josh Gordon would cost, conditional 3-4 rounder might get it done, what did the Browns sign 4-5 WRs they might be ready to move on

  16. Guzzie Says:

I meant draft 4-5 WRs not sign

  17. Strider ....Sec 147 Says:

Don’t you doubt Jameis !!!! He can win it ! Easy if cam newton can so can he !! Multiple times ! Jameis threw 5 TDs to 5 different receivers cam just hit that record of 5TD in a single game last year.

  18. rayjay1122 Says:

Speaking for Captain Obvious: We are so lucky to have Jameis.

  19. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ lord

I didn’t know you could play 36 games in two years. Here i am thinking it was only 32 possible in 2 years. Lol. Did we make a deep run in the playoffs those years and all this futility i remember was just a bad dream. Please tell me it was all just a bad dream.

LMAO!!!!!! You do realize that was outside the building right? Hilarious.

  21. gotbbucs Says:

If the guys we currently have on offense can stay relatively healthy we are a playoff team.

The defense will improve mightily just with a competent scheme put in place. If we run a hybrid scheme like I think we will, by the middle of the season we can go on a run.

  22. Fsuking Says:

It will probably be Roberto Aguayo for MVP with Jameis a close second. Hahahahaha

  23. LordCornelius Says:

Lmao I duno why I put 36 instead of 32 my bad. You get the idea tho

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Well he IS taking our team to the Super Bowl in 2017.

I hope that will be good enough for you guys. 🙂

  25. Tiny Tim Says:

Da$n you lord. And here it is I was hoping it was all a bad dream.

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

  27. Dewey Selmon Says:

Can we just not finish in last place before MVP talk? lol

  28. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Man I can’t wait to see GMC and Spence lined up next to eachother.

  29. astrobuc Says:

@ tmax, you are wrong. Look up the stats. I would take Murphy over Roddy White. Roddy production has really declined, and he is a diva. Reports last year said he was a malcontent. I would rather have a hungry Adam Humphries.

  30. RonRicoFSU Says:

Remember Gruden used to get there at 4 am.

  31. Lion Says:

Did you not see Cam Newton’s receiver corps during his MVP campaign?
