Third Round Sleeper?

Maybe you may have heard this, Joe isn’t sure: The Bucs need an edge rusher. Worse than a fish needs water.

Joe has a hunch, nothing more, there is going to be a helluva run on defensive ends to start the second round tonight. It’s very possible if the Bucs don’t trade up in the second round, they may regret it.

However, in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, Joe spoke with several NFL folks about possible sleeper candidates the Bucs might get on the third day of the draft. A name that came up a couple of times is Yannick Ngakoue of Maryland.

Joe interviewed Ngakoue there and learned he can play multiple positions — in various schemes, but his best talent is putting pressure on the quarterback.

“My pass rush, I feel like, is superb,” Ngakoue said. “I feel like I am the best pass rusher in the draft. I feel that’s what separates me. My speed, my power and the overall awareness in the game.”

The reason why Joe brings this guy up, other than he is a sleeper, was that back in February, Ngakoue was thought to be a fourth-round pick by the folks Joe spoke to..

Well, if there is a run on defensive ends, might the Bucs take this guy in the third round, not unlike what the Bucs did last year when they got paranoid and traded up into the second round to nab Ali Marpet?

If there is a run on defensive ends, Ngakoue may just get drafted tonight.

I don’t know if he’s a sleeper. The guy looks like he’s jumping up the boards.

    Yeah Joe – He’s not a sleeper.

After reviewing tape he’s the only kid I’ve seen, give Jack Conklin, and Decker; problems.
