Notre Dame, 24 & The Bucs

Now that the Josh Norman fantasy is fading, Joe is firmly refocused on the NFL Draft to ease the pain.

That brings Joe to the new power brokers of the draft, the Chargers picking at No. 3.

This excellent piece out of the San Diego Union-Tribune  dives into the likelihood of San Diego drafting an offensive lineman (they used 24 O-line combinations last year), but that pick is not Laremy Tunstil out of Ole Miss. Reporter Tom Krasovic notes that Chargers GM loves Notre Dame players and may prefer tackle Ronnie Stanley from the Fighting Irish.

A frequent visitor to the Indiana-based school during his days with the Indianapolis Colts, Telesco moved up in his first draft to take Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o in the second round. A year later, he selected Notre Dame guard Chris Watt in the third round and, that October, signed former Notre Dame blocker Trevor Robinson off the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad.

The piece dives into former NFL player and scout (rare combination) Louis Riddick explaining why he prefers Stanley.

What a coup this would be for Tampa Bay. The Bucs need offensive linemen to get hot above them in the draft, so an elite defensive body falls to them, or gets close enough to trade up at a manageable price. Joe still thinks there’s a good shot five of the first six picks are offensive players.

The Bucs pick at No. 9 (for now).

I just have this deep gut feeling that we are going to get Bosa.

  2. SB with Jameis Says:

NOPE……….Joe assures us that no OL will be taken by the Bucs in the first.

  3. 813bucboi Says:

they have to protect rivers…I wouldn’t mind grabbing tunsil at #9 because we must protect Winston…we’ll see how it shakes out…GO BUCS!!!

  4. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

I wouldn’t e suprised if both of the top tackles go in the top ten. Besides QB and edge rusher that is the next biggest position to fill.

I think one of those top defenders fallike to us but I’m hopeing they don’t take Buckner. He not that great of a pass rusher and every single Oregon player not need Ngata was a bust. Just ask the Dolphins what they think of Oregon DE’s. Not to mention Armstead of the 49ers.

The only encouraging idea if we do take him is Coach Hayes. If anyone can turn him into a complete player who can rush the passer consistently it would be him. Dude is a man beast tho. Thats not always a good thing either. Your easier to get a hold of and block as well. PLZ take Rankins!!!

  5. Espo Says:

Tunsil is gone at 3. Might be gone at 2.

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I only want the Bucs to draft one player……..

    ANDREW BILLINGS!!!!!!

  7. Patrick in VA Says:

I’m pumped about how this thing is shaking out. Essentially we’ve already moved up to the #7 pick simply because we know that 2 of the picks are spoken for and then guys they’re getting are not necessarily top 10 talent. Then we can hope that someone will reach way too high to take Elliott and that’ll mean that we have what’s essentially a #6 pick. It’s shaping up beautifully.

  8. SB with Jameis Says:

Goff and Wentz were Always going before we picked. Anyone could see that.

  9. R.O. Says:

What do you think Bosa brings to the Dline that we don’t already have? Please Xplain?

  10. SB with Jameis Says:

    @R.O.
He apparently has a good nose candy source.

  11. feelthepewterpower Says:

The the chargers used so many line combos because a lot their guys got hurt. Their biggest issue is defense..and corner/safety is a glaring need. So too is a dlineman. I think they go defense first. The book noter dame talk is also just speculation and maybe smoke

  12. duthsty rhothdes Says:

Hargreaves is done now….Tunsil, Conklin or Stanley or Bosa would be great pick ups for us…protect winston and dougie…trade back get a clemson DE, pick miller round 3

  13. Lou Says:

Rankins needs to be the pick at 9. VH3 would be second option but if Buckner or Bosa fall to us then it would be a tough choice between Buckner, Bosa, and Rankins. Other than that this draft depends on 2nd round pick etc. Take the BEST defensive lineman. I would consider a WR in the second though. Possibly Sterling Sheppard…

  14. OneBuc55 Says:

I can see Ramsey falling to us at 9…The Rams and Eagles will most likely take QB’s, the Chargers and the Ravens will most likely take offensive linemen, Cowboys, 9’ers, and Jaguars will most likely take a LB or DL, and the Browns most likely will take exit Elliott…either way, we’re in good position to land a really good player…

  15. feelthepewterpower Says:

No way ramsey falls past six. Hes currently the best defensive player inthe draft

  16. Luther Says:

Unless Bosa roids up like another popular D-lineman thinking of early retirement, he will be a bust. Dude is too slow for edge rusher in the NFL.

  17. No_Bucs_Given Says:

If Rankins is our guy and defenders will drop with the QB and OL needs along with a hopefully EE to the Cowgirls, we can trade back to mid round and get Rankins and pick up picks.

  18. briandorry55 Says:

    Trade back.

This is the most miserable part of the offseason. Worse than July. Thursday cannot get here fast enough.
