Might The Bucs Draft Ogbah And Spence?

Trading up for Spence?

Trading up for Spence?

The Bucs are sure to hunt edge rushers as the draft continues tonight at 7 p.m., and Joe doesn’t rule out Tampa Bay nailing two of the best available in the second round.

A look at a smart mock draft sets the table.

The new ProFootballTalk.com second-round mock draft comes with what Joe believes is a wise look at the remaining defensive ends.

Be real. In a league starved for pass rushers, a league that way overpays pass rushers in free agency every damn year, a lot of DEs just fell in the draft last night. That should tell you their stock wasn’t all that high.

The “PFT” mock draft linked above projects the Bucs drafting manbeast defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah out of Oklahoma State, a raw but productive terror of an athlete. But it also has DE Noah Spence from Eastern Kentucky dropping to the 49th overall pick.

With a third-round pick (74th overall) and fourth-round picks (106 and 108 overall), Tampa Bay might be willing to part with all of them to leap for another DE, assuming they love the guy. Or, maybe they’re willing to cough up this year’s fourth-rounders plus a second-rounder in 2017, and keep their 2016 third-round pick.

Jason Licht might not want to wait on multiple upgrades to the DE corps. Robert Ayers’ contract is fat. Will Gholston is a looming free agent. Jacquies Smith is very productive but has battled multiple injuries. Sackless George Johnson is, well, sackless.

    Joe …both?

    Okay I’m drooling.

  2. Miko Says:

I hope they don’t let Gholston walk in 2017. Improving player and an asset…

  3. Luther Says:

Man…I would love our draft if we got Ogbah or Spence in that order

  4. Miko Says:

Trivia > Bucs traded a 1st round pick one time for a DE from Eastern Kentucky……

  5. SOOFIERCE Says:

It’s got to be pretty tough being a sack less Johnson 🙁

  6. Patrick in VA Says:

If they get both of these DEs and trade away the rest of the draft and maybe next year’s 4th to move up and get the kicker in the 3rd I’d lock myself in the room and do some unmentionable things.

  7. Mike Says:

I have a feeling we are going to waste the 4th we picked up last night to move up a few spots to grab one of those guys

  8. Buc1987 Says:

    Patrick in VA …lmao

  9. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

would rather Ogbah OR Spence and then Sterling Shepard

We must give our franchise QB a weapon in this draft

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

lol Joe is obsessed with giving away draft picks. In the multiple years of reading his articles he always has advocated chasing individual players and giving up picks and I can’t recall a single article about the value of trading down. The general vibe I’ve gotten is trade up and overspend in Free Agency; both being terrible strategies as evidenced by all football history.

If he had his way we would have only made like 3-4 draft selections total the last couple years as we trade away picks to go after guys like Johny Manziel

he starts this article saying how the DEs must not be that great in this draft class because they are falling; and concludes we should go chase 2 of them and give away the future to do so lol. That doesn’t add up man go drink more coffee

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Thinking more about it…. gets me too excited.

Joe this is cruel. We have 4 hrs to go.

  12. martinii Says:

If we get either this year and a 3rd or 4th round project I would be happy. I Think we are a little euphoric because it has been so long (Simeon) since we had one good pass rusher.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

We know why they’re dropping Joe.

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

“would rather Ogbah OR Spence and then Sterling Shepard”

+1. That’d be a dream scenario; and in the 4th you could get another DE AND a DT or S.

    2-Spence/Ogbah DE
    3-Shepard/Braxton Miller WR
    4A-Sheldon Day DT
    4B-Carl Nassib DE

    4>2

  15. unbelievable Says:

If they somehow came away with both, and didn’t have to give up more than one of this year’s 4ths, plus next year’s 2nd, that would be quite amazing.

I think there is alot of good value in the 3rd and 4th this year, so I might be hesitant to trade away all of them.

  16. Guzzie Says:

Ogbah looks like a bust, his production in college, his 12 sacks was mostly from weak competition, so of course the Bucs will draft him, really hoping for Spence or DTs Billings or Chris Jones they are both 1st round talents, Ogbah isn’t

  17. Miko Says:

    Spriggs @ RT …or Boyd-WR

  18. cometowin2 Says:

Spence, Ogbah or Dodd and then trade back into the 2nd and get Shepard or Boyd. Pick up Aguayo with the 5th. Gronk or Vitale at fullback with one of the 6s. Essentially 5 starters. Best draft ever.

  19. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    That’s not going to happen.

More likely we get a good one in 2, and then later take a gamble on a lesser known one.

If Licht gives up more than a 4th and a 6th to move up, he should be fired.

  20. Abdominal Snowman Says:

Both? Oh god I don’t know if my heart could handle the excitement!

While I wouldn’t mind getting a dynamic receiver like shepherd or Miller it would be amazing to get two guys who were predicted at 9 in the second. One of these guys would surely pan out. I like both of them and wouldn’t have been too upset if we got one in the first so if licht pulled that off he is the real rock star.

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Yeah, the more I look at Ogbah, the less impressed I am.

  22. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Landry said last week that only 19 players were ranked as first round picks, and over 60 we ranked as second round picks. There was going to be sliding no matter what.

  23. gotbbucs Says:

I’m with The Commish on this one Bullard is twice the player that Ogbah is.

  24. cmurda Says:

Apologize if this has been mentioned in the comments already. At work and I don’t have time to read all of the posts. Dallas is supposedly trying to move up to pick 32 and rumor has it they are looking for a DE. I have a feeling one of those 2 will be drafted by Dallas regardless.

  25. Guzzie Says:

    2 DE Noah Spence
    3 DT Javon Hargrave
    4 DE Matt Judon
    4 WR Keyvarris Garrett
    5 S Kevin Byard
    6 FB Dan Vitale
    6 BPA

  26. cometowin2 Says:

I think we may be able to get one of the DEs or Billings witout trading up but will not get Shepard or Boyd without trading back into the 2nd. I could also live with Braxton Miller in the 3rd.

  27. Mike Johnson Says:

Wishingful thinking here guys. What makes you think teams drafting before us do not have their eyes on Spence and Ogbah? And rumor has it Dallas wants Spence and will trade up to get him. Possible we could trade that 4th to go up and get one of them. But highly unlikely.Look this is Russian Roulette here. Neither may not be there when our time comes. We should have grabbed a DE yesterday. Like my gramps use to say, You snooze..You lose!

  28. BucFan20 Says:

    Cut copy paste.

  29. Alstott up the gut Says:

Ogbah, Spence, Billings, Robinson, Reed, Dodd….. Get any 2!!

  30. salish_seamonster Says:

I would put the chances of Ogbah AND Spence at close to zero.

Also, the end result is pass rush, no matter how we get it, so isn’t it a little bit of tunnel vision to think DE or bust? I mean, a DT can provide that push too. The new scheme is going to send LBs more often, and both Lavonte and Kwon can be very effective blitzers. Let’s not do stupid things to fill a position, because [[newsflash]] we’re not going to get another Simeon Rice in this draft. Let’s stay sober and continue to build the team with value. This is what I expect Licht to do.

  31. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Joe, stop teasing 87!! That’s just cruel.

  32. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I think Dallas wants one of the two remaining big name QBs. Hopefully that keeps them away from the DEs.

  33. Big Marlon B Says:

i don’t think it would take the 3rd and both 4ths to get back into the 2nd. the 3rd and one of the 4ths should do the trick. that’s how they got Lavonte David in 2012. that is pretty much the going rate.

  34. TNOLES Says:

All this talk but still…. if any of these guy’s were freaks they would have been taken. This is a crap shoot from here on out.

  35. 813bucboi Says:

@mj…doesn’t matter…we still could grab lets say dodd and bullard…or nassib and billings or jones and Calhoun…or reed and macallistar…or robinson and kaufasi….as I said so many different combinations of quality dlineman…by the way, what de did you want at #9 or #11?….you sound very salty….GO BUCS!!!

  36. Lord Cornelius Says:

Mike Johnson – put your $$ where your mouth is and tell us Exactly who the Bucs should have drafted at DE last night? And we will compare his career to VHIII and whoever we draft round 2.

  37. macout247 Says:

Why oh why do we keep harping on Ogbah??? Every scouting report I read is that he’s lazy and disappears. He has bust all written over him.

I just have a tough time seeing the Cowboys not only target a DE with off field concerns, but also trade up to get him. Not with their last 2 DE’s they drafted having suspensions this year and how many great defensive lineman are on the board. I think Spence falls to us and then we target a DT in the 3rd round….please Hassan Ridgway…fall to the 3rd!!!

  38. BFFL Says:

mocks are reasonably accurate in the top 10 and then become more and more inaccurate with each additional pick. At this point just sit back and observe and stop saying to trade up for a player you have no damn clue about when there are probably players they like better.

  39. Bama Rich Says:

Select McKensie Alexander and then trade your 3rd and one fourth for either Ogbah or Spence. The get the kicker from FSU with the 4th rounder.

  40. Strider ....Sec 147 Says:

We could be so lucky to have that happen !

  41. Trubucfan22 Says:

Lol. So Joe says the pass rusher fell in the draft and they suck. But we should trade away all of our picks to get 2 of them.

Again, they suck, but we should spend 4 or 5 picks to draft 2 of them……

    ……
    ……

  42. nate123455789 Says:

Reports are cowboys are trying.to.trade up for a pass rusher

  43. Dick Butkiss Says:

I think 813bucboi was one of those Marcus Mariota fan boys from last year

  44. Brent bull/buc Says:

I think the difference between nassib Calhoun and ogbah and spence is slim. I wouldn’t trade up or force a de with our 2nd pick. We need safety dt and wr too and there are studs out there like Shepard bell billings etc.

  45. 813bucboi Says:

@dick…no that was you….Im a gator fan that actually wanted Winston after doing some research and not talking from my a$$ like you….who ever the bucs select im cool with because they are bucs….your just a salty old man….get over it…GO BUCS!!!

  46. CrustyCrab Says:

The Bucs will not be able to grab both because the cow girls will try their best to take one of the DE’s

  47. Tnew Says:

Dallas is going to take Dodd

  48. scott fitzgerald Says:

    Ogbah, Nassib, Spence

  49. Tnew Says:

Might want to jump the Jags and trade with the Chiefs just in case they are looking DE.

  50. Sim Says:

I can see Ogbah, but if Tunsil raises red flags then Spence has to be at the bottom of many lists. This guy was banned by an entire college football conference. The only rerason we haven’t heard more from him since he was booted from tOSU is because he plays in no-internetville, Kentucky. He’s a no-take. The Bucs need pas rush but they’d be better off taking a chance on Miles Jack. That would give them the best LB corp in the league to play with an up and coming secondary.

  51. NJ BucFan Says:

Ogbah and Spence seem like younger versions of gholston and jsmith respectively.

However they both have much higher upside going forward.

I’m all for ogbah at 8, Spence somewhere between 16-21. Just don’t give up more than 3rd and a 4th or future-2nd and a 4th

  52. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sit where we are……keep the extra 4th to trade back up into the 2nd…..

We will get a good player @ 39.

  53. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I just have a good feeling about Spence! Again…OSU fans thought he was better than Bosa when he was a Buckeye. So he got busted for Molly…it’s how he handled that youthful mistake…he took his punishment exiled to EKU…worked his butt off and showed me a lot of character.

Spence was considered a slam dunk first round pick during his glory days at OSU and most people believe he has first round talent.

If ever there was a place to use pick6’s great baggage to talent ratio this is it.
Spence’s talent clearly outweighs his baggage…and again #3 likes him. So do we believe #3 is as talented as a football scout as he is at everything else. I’ve yet to see #3 fail at anything. Grab Spence!

  54. SOEbuc Says:

Macout247- I’m a huge longhorns fan so I try to watch any games I can, and I would love Hassan Ridgeway in the 393rd. Dude is a man beast up the middle

  55. GhostofSchiano Says:

NO JOE, NO!!!!!! The Sackless one is working hard this off season…It’s revenge of the sackless Johnson in 2016…..

    http://www.pewterreport.com/articles/bucs-de-johnson-calls-2016-his-revenge-year/

  56. K2 Says:

I hope we get one…getting both is a dream

  57. 1999Bucsfan Says:

I know this off topic sorta but we should go after FB Cody Grice from Akron in the 6th. He’s a monster on the goal line. I would know…he’s my cousin so I may be a little bias but he really is worth it.

  58. godzilla13 Says:

We need a stud at DT as much as we need a DE. I agree to move up and use the 3rd, 4th and 6th round picks to get two of the four players I mentioned. Draft Andrew Billings or Chris Jones and Noah Spence or Emmanuel Ogbah.

  59. MadMax Says:

Very possible…..and that would be awesome!
