Ex-Browns GM: Cleveland To Deal No. 8 Pick

April 28th, 2016

LichtCombine2Wouldn’t it be a stunning kick in the groin if a team traded up with the Browns to leapfrog Tampa Bay and draft defensive end manbeasts DeForest Buckner or Joey Bosa?

Oh, the howls will be heard at Joe’s big draft party tonight.

Joe’s getting a nasty vibe for just that scenario.

Former Browns president and general manager Phil Savage, who now runs the Senior Bowl and works for SiriusXM NFL Radio, joined 105.5 FM in Alabama and says Cleveland is looking to deal that No. 8 pick.

Of course, the Bucs could trade up with the Browns. However, after speaking to several important people at One Buc Palace the past week, Joe can say there’s an almost eerie confidence that the Bucs will get their man at No. 9.

Joe: You already posted the prediction they’ll go for the Georgia kid, so maybe the Bucs are trading down and kicking you in the package twice!

  2. @Hands2theface Says:

    Yep….what Tom said.

  3. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Don’t want Bosa or Buckner… Happier with Floyd but if they try and trade back they’ll miss out. Giants will take Floyd if we don’t.

  4. R.O. Says:

Still on the Buckner and Bosa rant..!!’ Id take Buckner over Bosa if I had to. Bosa has no Juice.. No fire. At least DB talks a good game.

  5. SB with Jameis Says:

Dam Joe. I am disappointed that you didn’t do a 7 round Mock for the Bucs. You didn’t have to call it GM Joe but you could have given us your fantasy Bucs draft.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

I’m going out on a limb, predicting Jalen falls to 9 and the Bucs snatch him up.

  7. SB with Jameis Says:

I sure hope that they don’t go for Floyd. As a Gators fan I watched us run right at him again and again.

  8. SB with Jameis Says:

    That’s not a limb 87. It’s a twig.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Relax….relax……There will be plenty of good players available at 9…..and if Cleveland trades and a Defensive player is picked……one of the top Oline prospects will still be on the board and someone may want to trade up with us.

The word on the street is that we will pick someone at some position with at least one of our draft picks….perhaps all. Also…..that player will be better than one of the 53 from last year.

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I would not be surprised to see Noah Spence in Tampa, at number 9.

  11. Wausa Says:

Walterfootball has been saying Floyd for a long time.
Obviously they have sources and I’m just guessing but he has pedestrian production for a top 10 pick and that has not been the philosophy I have seen Jason Licht draft.

Production seems like a very large part of their draft process which you would think would disqualify Floyd(plus he looks like a 3/4 OLB and Mike Smith will mostly be running a 4/3).

I would attempt to trade up for Ramsey assuming the price isn’t too high, but If we stay at 9 I would think it would more likely be one of the following:

Rankins, Bosa, Hargreaves, Lawson or a wildcard(Coleman).

  12. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    Could ” their man” be a WR??😏

  13. 813bucboi Says:

@sb…im a gator fan as well and I agree…we ran right at him and he couldn’t handle it….I think we might trade back a few spots and pick up an extra pick and still select vhg and then grab a de in the second and third(ogbah and nassib)…GO BUCS!!!

  14. MadMax Says:

or this 87, ramsey makes it to #8 and we have to make that trade. Its one spot, it cant be that expensive. If we dont do it another team will and take him for sure. But I dont see him falling to there 🙁

  15. coopsxx Says:

I am going to go against the grain and go for Dodd.

He looks the safest, most reliable bet in many ways. Read and watch:

“However, after speaking to several important people at One Buc Palace the past week, Joe can say there’s an almost eerie confidence that the Bucs will get their man at No. 9.”

That’s because the guy they plan to take is someone not predicted to go by pick 9 in any of the mocks.

  17. gotbbucs Says:

Hargreaves or Floyd would be major disappointments to me.

This year’s 1st round I think is going to make all the mock drafters look like fools. All the picks beyond the 2nd or totally up in the air.

  18. MarineBucsFan Says:

That’s what I get from that statement as well Bonzai.

Sounds like a player that a lot of you will B*tch about and call it a reach.

In Licht I trust, have no reason to question his picks. If anything, whomever Licht decides I will be instantly watching highlights to see what he sees in this guy. Im so excited.

  19. Wausa Says:

    gotbucs.

    I 100% agree with you.

If we can move up and not give up our second to get Ramsey that would be the dream draft for us.

I don’t think all the so called experts are correct in their prediction of whom we are going to draft. I hope I am right.

  20. BucGator Says:

I love that we all have zero clue on what they are going to do ha. A lot more fun than last two years.

  21. Stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m with you! I have given up on Ramsey yet. Obviously depends on teams ahead of us and their needs. I don’t think the limb is a twig but it’s not a huge branch either. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Because if we get Ramsey and then could manipulate the draft just marginally we should also be able to add Spence! If we get Ramsey and Spence the rest will be gravy.

BTW somebody gave props to Bosa for not doing drugs like Spence. Really?
Word in Columbus is that Bosa and many Buckeyes…Elliott and others partied pretty regularly and yes there was molly involved.

Spence just got caught. At least Spence proved himself, paid his penance, and hopefully learned an important lesson. Bosa may still think he’s bullet proof. Don’t want him to learn his lesson as a Buc.

I trust Licht’s ability to ferret out the bad seeds however. He correctly figured out #3 for us and Honeybadger for the Cards. In Licht we trust.

  22. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

If for some reason Ramsey falls to 8. Send Glennon to Cleveland and a late round pick and that should suffice.

  23. feelthepewterpower Says:

I am OK passing or being passed for Bosa…..

  24. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    FiretheCannons

That’s my hope. Ramsey falls to 8. Cleveland would gladly let us move up one spot for MG8 and another draft pic…wouldn’t go any higher than 4 though for just one step up.

Cleveland would then have at minimum a cheap backup QB who “might” end up starting for them. They would get another 4th rounder and they could then simply turn around and trade the #9 pick for even more selections which is their plan for the 8th anyway.

  25. Phil Says:

I hope the Bucs trade back & pick up an extra 2nd round pick.

  26. Kevin Says:

I’m with Chris, I would just take Soence at 9….if it were all about the talent he would be in the top 10. Otherwise we are settling for less because of better character????

I’m done with good character. I want nasty!!! Take the best pass rusher in the draft. It would be stupid to settle for less talent or someone we have to develop.

At the end of the day now that Hayes is our D-line coach I am confident that whoever they pick will work out. He is probably the best D-line coach in the league.

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

If Glennon gets traded the Browns would be my preferred landing spot. The Bucs, the Steelers and the Browns, my three favorite NFL teams, in that order naturally.

  28. Deez nuts Says:

Who cares at this point. Just get it over with and get on with another losing season already.
