Bucs Role Model

A Lavonte David fan.

New Bucs linebacker Devante Bond out of Oklahoma doesn’t know any Bucs player. Well, except for one, that would be Oklahoma hero Gerald McCoy.

But Bond sure knew about another, though the two have never met. That would be Bucs linebacker Lavonte David, Bond told the local pen and mic club by teleconference call today.

“I know him from Nebraska, of course, and coming from junior college,” Bond said.

Like David, Bond was a stud linebacker in junior college before he transferred to Oklahoma. The Cornhuskers for decades were a bitter rival of the Sooners until Nebraska moved to the Big Ten and the rivalry was ruined.

Still, there is still a kindred of hate between the programs, part of the reason David was on Bond’s radar.

Bond will be a DE for the Bucs not LB.

  2. Mike Johnson Says:

At 6’1″ and 235 lbs, he’s not a very likely DE. Maybe in a 3-4 package he can rush or cover?

  3. scott Says:

he will def be a SAM lb

  4. Stanglassman Says:

He’s between 235-240 now. You maybe right this year they’ll sub him in on 3rd down the rush the passer (like Balt did last yr with Smith) basically as a blitzing LB but he is currently only 20 LBs under Spence so he could make the move to DE. Either way my point is to think of him as a rush specialist not as a 3 down Sam Lb.

I thought pass rusher based on his highlights, as well. Fast off the edge and a really good blitzed. Seemed to get after the QB well.
