“At Least Two Pass Defenders”

April 26th, 2016
Could he slide to the Bucs?

Sliding to the Bucs?

So, most know the Bucs need an edge rusher in the absolute worst way. Joe cannot begin to describe how shameful this hole has been for the franchise.

And with Brent Grimes being 33 this season, Alterraun Verner and his $6 million annual salary needing to rally after PTSD suffered under Coach My Scheme, and Johnthan Banks becoming a free agent after the season, it’s not a stretch to see cornerback as a significant hole next offseason.

So it doesn’t take a Calculus major to figure out the Bucs are going to target a defensive end and a corner.

From the words of Evan Silva of Rotoworld.com, a guy Joe respects a great deal, expect the Bucs to target two pass defenders early.

Overview: Bucs GM Jason Licht has effectively masked questionable free-agent spending by landing six starters in his first two drafts, not including impact passing-down back Charles Sims and potential 2016 riser Kenny Bell. Their most-glaring needs at cornerback and defensive end, the Buccaneers figure to target at least two pass defenders in their first three picks. Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves is most commonly mocked to Tampa Bay at No. 9, a match that makes an awful lot of sense.

This does make sense the way the Bucs terribly need a defensive and surely could use a corner. Joe isn’t totally 100 percent sold on Vernon Hargreaves. But Joe will bring word shortly from a widely respected talking head that did a good job of nearly selling Hargreaves to Joe.

    Cool.

    I thought anybody who suggested anything but a pass rushing DE was an out-of-touch moron. I guess not.

  2. d-roca Says:

    If Bosas there id hope they wouldnt take hargreaves. Shoot even if he’s not there. The corners arent the big problem like alot of ppl think. Basement Boy was the prob. Thank god he’s hanging underground again.

  3. Kevin Says:

    I will be dissapoited with VH AT 9. If its not ramsey id try to trade back and take spence

  4. Jacko101 Says:

    This needs to happen Bosa Ramsey or Buckner…. Period

  5. CrustyCrab Says:

    The Bucs and Titans will make a draft day trade if Bosa or Ramsey does not fall to the Bucs. Bucs will trade the number 9 pick for the Titans 15th pick and a 2nd round pick and might be able to squeeze a late pick. Licht will let Robinson move up and get his left tackle.

  6. Pete Says:

    I certainly hope the Bucs pick Dline 1 and 2.

  7. BamaBuc Says:

    @crustycrab

    I have been wanting hat since I heard Titans wanted to get back in top 10. Grab Rankins or Billings with 15. Grab best available pass rusher and best safety with second round picks.

  8. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    Lol, Crusty are you friends with the Titans GM. There are no reports that the Titans are looking to move back in to the top 10. So absurd when a poster dreams up a scenario that he wants to happen and then convinces himself that it will go down. SMH! Of course this should be expected by a Bucs fan who swore that Jameis was the wrong guy to take last year and still uses the screen name Crusty Crab!

  9. jvato24 Says:

    I am willing to bet most people that want Bosa have not seen him play all that much and don’t realize he is mostly a run stopping DE, THAT potentially likes party drugs NICE!!!!

  10. Jason Says:

    @TouchDownTampaBay

    Actually there have been reports the Titans wanted to move back up into the top 10, immediately after their trade down. Robinson even said he has the ammo to move back up, and his phone still works

  11. Rrsrq Says:

    Bosa in the first, Spence in the second, best available, CB, S or WR in third or the kicker from FSU (yeah I said it, kicker in the 3rd)

  12. mike Says:

    I think the titans trade up… hopefully joe robinson calls us to move back and gives us an extra pick.

  13. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

    “Basement boy” lol nice

  14. Bculaw Says:

    BamaBuc – I would love to see something like that shake out. Rankings or Nkrmediche at 15, Spence or Ogbah in the 2nd along with my favorite player in the draft – Karl Joseph – with the other 3nd round pick. Realistically, none of them will be available in the second round, but I can always dream, right?

  15. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

    It seems more and more likely that either Bosa or Buckner will fall to us at 9. It would be a miracle if Ramsey some how fell to us but I highly doubt that. There’s no way he falls that far, and Idk if it’s worth giving away a second rndr to move up. Giving a third to move up a spot might be worth it, but not a second. That’s a highly talented starter your giving away.

  16. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    I have read that stuff about the Titans but everything I have seen makes it sound like conjecture. I don’t think the Titans are actively looking to move up. If anything I could see it being a draft day trade if Conklin isn’t there available when they draft at 15. I think they wouldn’t mind getting there hands on either him or Stanley but I think it would take quite a bit of negotiating at the last minute in order for the Bucs to be their trading partner. Seeing has all these DEs are about equal and none are perfect I certainly wouldn’t mind trading back. I just think as of now it is a long shot.

  17. Joe Says:

    The corners arent the big problem like alot of ppl think.

    On paper you are right. As Joe explained however, corner easily could be a massive hole this time next year. If Banks/Verner can’t be turned around, it could be a massive hole this season.

  18. CrustyCrab Says:

    @TouchDownTampaBay
    You do know I’m a Seminole fan right so that means you are assuming because I use CrustyCrab means that has something to with Jameis. So you convinced yourself that I was a Jameis hater do some research and stop making yourself look like an arse! By the way my kids love Sponge Bob

  19. Dan Says:

    Next years CB class is set to be amazing. Check it out. A first round pick next year could easily come in and replace Banks if he left.

  20. CrustyCrab Says:

    @TouchDownTampaBay
    So now you have read this stuff about the Titans and the Bucs. So now I guess someone else out there is a friend of the Titans GM they are saying the same thing I just posted and I guess since you read it that gives it relevance. Now you have the nerves to say the Titans wouldn’t mind getting their hands on a tackle are you ignorant or just stupid..

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

    Easy guys! No one here has even the slightest notion of what is or isn’t going to happen this Thursday (come on Thursday!). Deductive reasoning suggests defense……..BUT, what if?
    I think unless you have the #1 pick it’s all speculation. There are so many scenarios that could play out that it’s dizzying, especially if trades are involved.

  22. William Walls Says:

    I usually agree with Joe, and while it took me some time to see the size of the need at corner, I’m starting to get it. We don’t know how deep the draft will be next year for corners, so we don’t want to be caught in a position where we’re going into the 2017 draft needing to find two top-shelf corners in a draft that’s weak for corners. We need to get one in the 2016 draft to make sure we avoid that. I seriously doubt Hargreaves is the guy we need, but Eli Apple looks like a good candidate. I can see us moving around to get in position to draft him – particularly if the edge rusher Licht wants is already safely in-house.

  23. Bucco Bruce Says:

    Dline and Dline then what ever after that. We aren’t as desperate as people think and we can address that hole next year when it does become glaring.

    Would it be nice for a guy to get a year under the belt, sure. Can they find someone serviceable after the 2nd round at db yes. Just so long as we beat or get involved during the run on db we will be fine.

  24. FearTheFlag Says:

    I think the 2 names that will have a measurable impact on our defense this year are Mike Smith and Jay Hayes. These guys have a history of doing everything they can to maximize a players skill set. This should Allow Ayers, J. Smith, Gholston to be more productive. The Bucs tied for 14th last year with 38 sacks. I think it’s very possible that the schemes Mike Smith will have us play combined with proven record of Hayes’s ability to produce very effective D-lines will push us in 40+ sacks category in 2016. And with with a little luck and wise drafting we’ll be talking about what a great job these guys did with whomever we draft at the DE position!

  25. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    Lol, saying you think the Bucs will find a trade with the perfect trading partner because it works well for you doesn’t mean it will happen. Reporters making guesses about potential trades based on no facts or comments are just filler as there is not much else to report about. I would say the odds
    Of Tampa trading spots with TN are less than 5% and probably closer to 1%.

    Maybe I have your screen name confused with someone else who was a Jameis hater leading up to last years draft. If I got you confused with another poster my bad.

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    grab vhg at #9….impact player that will make the qbs hold the ball a second or 2 longer creating sacks and pressure from our dline….GO BUCS!!!

  27. The Buc Realist Says:

    Everyone watches the Superbowl and sees Carolina get destroyed by d-line!!! Draft comes and some start screaming for CB’s!!!! smdh!!!!

  28. Deez nuts Says:

    Would rather have Alexander. More upside, morenof a shutdown one on one CB, and can be had late first round.

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Dan

    Next years CB class is set to be amazing. Check it out. A first round pick next year could easily come in and replace Banks if he left.

    Excellent point!

    I think most of us are feeling pretty calm this year…unlike last when we wondered if Licht would pull the trigger on #3. In Licht we trust!

    Again imagine a little over ten years ago…we’d be looking at Thursday night without a pick!!! And no second rounder! Same for next year! How bad would that suck. Those were dark days in terms of the Buc’s draft.

  30. Rrsrq Says:

    @BucRealist.
    Correct you are, people forget a healthy Kelvin Benjamin makes a difference, when they come at you and youcanjustbthrow it up to a 6′ 5″ Benjamin, Rush nots as effective, you need both

  31. MadMax Says:

    Just 2 days away. And I really do think Spence falls. If the right trade scenario occurs, we’ll have 2 picks in the second. One for Spence and the other for a DB, preferably Safety Karl Joseph if we didnt take Ramsey….

  32. Bucsfanman Says:

    Realist is dead on. DE is the pick unless Ramsey falls. We’ve been crying about a pass-rush since the earth cooled.
    There’s talent in this draft at DB. Get Kendall Fuller in the 3rd. Go Hokies! 🙂

    Go Bucs!

  33. Brent bull/buc Says:

    I wouldn’t hate vh but couldn’t we trade down and get apple or get fuller. I’d rather just go de Buckner bosa Lawson work for me. Can snag a corner in 3rd rd. could even wait til next year and get a good corner. We’re not going to fill all our holes in 1 year. I’d go de s wr or something like that. But I’m ok with vh too. How about Lawson Joseph Caroo.
