Four Drops But 150 Yards For Mike Evans

November 8th, 2015

Michael Clayton is alive and well, but his ghost is clearly hard at work on wide receiver Mike Evans.

The Twitter jokes already are flowing that Jason Pierre-Paul has better hands than the Bucs’ second-year wide receiver.

Prior to four — FOUR! — big drops against the Giants this afternoon, Evans had slippery fingers in New Orleans, Houston and Atlanta, too.

The three chokes in Houston probably cost Tampa Bay that game, and one could make that argument today. The ugliest of the lot against the Giants was a third-down ball deep into New York territory with seconds left in the third quarter and the Bucs trailing 20-12. And don’t forget the third-quarter deep ball from Jameis Winston that Evans seemed to lose in the lights. That was just a standard incompletion.

The crazy things is, just like in Houston, Evans had a big day, eight catches for 150 yards.

He’s 22 years old, and Joe’s not about to go off on Evans. But his job is to catch the damn ball.

If Evans can’t straighten out, then the Bucs will be forced to look seriously at adding significant receiver help this offseason.

Sure didn’t look upset taken pics with Beckham

  2. Lovie Is Dog Poo Says:

He is such a chump with all his whining for flags. Did you see ODB doing that? I saw ODB get mad when he didn’t get to the spot on the 2nd Eli INT. I saw ODB make an amazing, clutch, winning catch when his team needed him. I saw Evans give up on his route on 3rd down begging for a flag once again with the game on the line.

  3. Formerly GlennonGrad Says:

Are you going to change your mind on McCoy? In light of this atrocity of defensive work?

  4. ATrain Says:

    Where’s the competative spirit…

Funny I would be pissed if I lost a game

  5. Trubucfan22 Says:

Evans just doesnt have the will to win. He does this for a pay check, not for pride.

  6. University of Seffner Says:

Need to call Ghost Hunters to investigate One Buc Place to get Michael Clayton’s demon out of there!

  7. Buccfan37 Says:

He just couldn’t find the handle. This is his style, but still a good receiver.

  8. Tampa Tony Says:

Ashlon Jeffrey in free agency. This team needs weapons badly

  9. Ray Rice Says:

I’m done calling him Savage Mike. MF dropped that bomb from THE MESSIAH that could have been a TD. He left at least 90 yds on the field today. FUK!

  10. lurker Says:

all the bucs need to get inoculated for the dropsies! evans had a bunch but was not the only one.

  11. Formerly GlennonGrad Says:

The rookies seem like the only players dedicated to playing the game. LVD has cashed in. GMC has cashed in, at least by the state sheet. Me 13 takes the cake. He didn’t seem the least bit upset about losing, and being the sole responsibility of doing so.

  12. ShutTheBucUp Says:

A comedy of errors. A true sh!tshow. Joe I hope you have the balls to ask the tough questions. This team looked liked a joke in their own house. Again.

  13. Lovie Is Dog Poo Says:

19 targets, 8 catches. That is truly abysmal because there were almost no forces by Jameis either.

  14. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Evans drops didn’t lose the game. Why was Lovie running Sims on 1st down? Idiotic coaching and so many giants fans you’d think ray jay was Met-Life

  15. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Who was the #2 receiver? This team needs depth

  16. Joking Says:

Stinking Gruden!! Been stinking ever since you ran him out of town, right Joe??5

    NEWSFLASH!!!!!

LOVIE DOES NOT CALL OFFENSIVE PLAYS!

Man…you people and your hate Lovie agendas…

  18. @FamousBroy3434 Says:

IF ONE PERSON BASHES WINSTON FROM HERE ONNOUT THWY ARE A FOOL. FOUR STRAIGHT GAMES WITHOUT A TURNOVER. I REMEMBER READING SOME RETARD CALL HIM ATM.
stay the course. Ride it out lets grow together. Wins are coming

  19. Owlykat Says:

Evans had five drops that cost us the game, but we were competitive nevertheless because of Winston. The announcer miscounted the drops. We lost Marpet but I have been saying EDS is a better Guard than Center and he held his own. Dontae Dye needs to be sent back to the Practice Squad–he was worthless. We need to activate our receiver from Central Florida who outplayed Dye the entire Preseason. We can beat Dallas next week. Keep your chin up Buc’s!!!

  20. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    The depth is injured too.

Anyway…I predicted this as a loss, but I was really hoping they would surprise me.

Spence getting that stupid penalty didn’t help, but there is plenty of blame to go around.

And it could be argued that Evan’s drops DID cost us the game, considering the circumstances each one occurred in.

Still…he had 150 yards so he still played a good game. The problem is, all the other WRs are 3rd string backups so all the pressure is on Evans.

  21. Lovie Is Dog Poo Says:

It’s not a hate Lovie agenda BuccaneerBonzai, it’s a hate losing and the loser attitude of this team. I said it in the game thread but they actually celebrated stopping the Giants on 3rd down to get the ball back down 8 with 20 seconds left. If they had actually made the stop 3 minutes earlier, and not taken an idiotic 15 yard penalty, Bucs get it back down 5 with 2-3 minutes left. Don’t forget bungling the game management with timeouts so you only have 1 left. He just sucks as a coach and costs us more than he contributes to us. You just enjoy shouting down other fans for not wanting to be losers, which is odd to say the least.

  22. Newbucsfan Says:

You know as a new Bucs fan, I am almost wishing all the mm lovers had their wish and mm would have been chosen over JW. JW really deserves better than what this team has to offer! I’m disgusted! Hope I feel differently tomorrow!

  23. Tim Says:

Jameis is already too good for the rest of this jv team. The kid deserves better.

  24. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I predict a win next week.

  25. pelbuc Says:

I saw him give up on a route on 3rd down as well as all his numerous drops on 3rd down. Winston deserved better today. Evans is beyond a choke artist and ASJ doesn’t even play. Great draft last year Licht. As good as your FA class. OBJ made clutch catches and is passionate. Take note GM. Pathetic!!!!!

  26. BucfanBF Says:

Evans lost the game for them today. 2 of those drops were deep in Giants territory and he just needs to catch those. Simple as that.
Jameis played very good today. Sad that his receivers aren’t on the same level as him. Humphries should see more playing time.
Bucs lost this game due to fumbles and drops. They were moving the ball at will in the end half but had drive killing bone headed plays….

  27. Mike10 Says:

There is a losing, soft culture on this team affecting several players. I’ll say it starts at the top w the Glazers, carries on through the coach and into the locker room. I just can’t listen to another player radio show talking about favorite video games when I care wayyy too much about this team.

  28. Mike10 Says:

    Lol Bonzai/Lovie Smith

  29. Tackleblockwin Says:

Once we get more weapons around Jameis we are gonna be pretty fun to watch.

    NEWSFLASH!!!!!

LOVIE DOES NOT CALL OFFENSIVE PLAYS!

Man…you people and your hate Lovie agendas

NEWSFLASH – Lovie calls the defense and this game was lost on the defensive side. You people and your Lovie Love. This guy is a joke of a coach. I’d rank 34th in the league and I’m well aware there are only 32 team in the NFL.

  31. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @Lovie Is Dog Poo

I disagree that there is ANY loser attitude with this team.

Can we agree the main issues are on defense?

If so, we just have to keep in mind that 70% of the defense is either aged veterans past their prime or backup quality young talent.

That’s what happens when we don’t address the defense in the draft.

And that is why, given how well Lovie has drafted the last 2 years, I think he needs one more draft to address the defense. If he does as well picking for the defense as he has for the offense (if Kwon is any clue he will), then the next draft will completely fix the defensive side of the ball.

The good news is that defensive players (outside of cornerback) take less time to develop. 4-6 games and they will be playing top notch. We’ll get a .500 or better record next year, and after that we’ll be rockin it for a decade.

  32. SCBucsFan Says:

    @Tackleblockwin

Just hope he doesn’t succumb to the loser attitude the rest of the team has.

  33. dmatt Says:

Lovie Is Dog Poo Says and Trubucfan22 I totally agree with the both of u.
Contrary to Bucs receiver ME, u didnt c ODB whining, he was balling…especially during crunch time. And, Evans give up on plays as he not only have the will to win but shows lack of determination and effort. He misses passes because he anticipates hits n he often plays scared n timid. I shared this about ME in a previous post yesterday. No professional should miss that many passes. Please get Dontae Dye outta there…the kid is lost in space. He knows nothing about hustling n the no huddle offense. This kid stands, wait, n watch a pass from JW comes in his direction n the end zone for td, n never step up to catch the pass or prevent the defender from intercepting the pass…good thing the DB has butter finger. We did nothing to help our young QB win the game. Sooner or later he’s going to call some of the players out. Dumb penalties on Spence n same repeated penalties on Gholston. JW is indeed a true leader.

  34. Yungry Says:

Evans gave up on his route at the end and the ball was catchable. With VJ #83 $10 million next year we should consider a WR very early in the draft.

  35. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

The losing culture is on this website, not on the team.

  36. Lovie Is Dog Poo Says:

Lovie is garbage Bonzai. With a better coach we could go to the playoffs this year with the same roster. Instead we should wait 2-3 more years so we can draft more defensive players? Assuming they even work out? We can let a better coach come do that instead of the loser who will ultimately waste our lord and savior, Jameis Christ. You know it’s true

    Lovie = dope

    Jameis = hope

Smoke the dope, and we can have hope.

  37. Tackleblockwin Says:

I think we all need to remember that we were without Jackson, ASJ, and Murphy again. Getting These young WRs some real playtime could payoff in the future. I agree that our D needs to improve and the ridiculous unsportsmanlike penalties need to stop.

  38. Mike10 Says:

Bonzai we haven’t won back to back games under Lovie, I wish I could blame that on my fingers

  39. Tampa Tony Says:

Evans just doesn’t have it! He doesn’t have that fight in him, which sucks as he’s a good player he just isn’t elite.

  40. Buccfan37 Says:

It looked to me likes Evans is anticipating his move after the catch before he makes the catch.

  41. Tampa Tony Says:

Loser Lovie is 5-19, Coughlin has won more games at Ray Jay than Lovie has at Bucs coach and the penalties continue as well as the awful scheme

Really? That is so pathetic! But he’s a winner after all…

  43. ATrain Says:

I can’t stand this oh they don’t have all their WR…EXCUSES..

    They weren’t Winning with the WR’s ..

Jamies looks good and is leading.. He knows how to win…But with this attitude that is allowed on the team he will sink.

Lovie is the leader piss poor job.

Evans partying with Beckham after the game.BS.

ASJ has practiced for 2weeks still not on field.

    .A$$ Sissy Joker

  44. DCBUCSFAN Says:

BuccaneerBonzai is absolutely right! listen guys, with the soft secondary backs, wasn’t everybody expecting Eli to be licking his chops as a prediction before the game? Yes the KEY DROPS on OFFENSE including Doug Martin did cost the damn game period!

  45. Patrick in VA Says:

I’m not down on him as much as some need to be, but the crying for flags really needs to stop. It’s every play

  46. Simpleasthat Says:

Piss poor Evans but all the penalties were on Lovie Dovie.

  47. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Only reason I didn’t throw the remote through the TV is the fun in watching the continued growth of Jameis before our eyes. It is certainly looking like I was wrong to doubt this kid and in hindsight am glad they drafted him instead of my preferred trade down for sh!tload of picks. His weekly growth as a QB and leader are probably the only things that keep the fanbase hopeful that better days are ahead…never been so glad to be wrong about a draft pick. A shame Lovie seems to needlessly burn through time outs every damn game.

  48. DCBUCSFAN Says:

@BuccaneerBonzai, I’m afraid you might be right.. just when u think that the organization is just a yr away from being strong playoff contenders..no identity on defense whats so ever..

  49. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

And on Evans, dude needs to sue Randy Moss ’cause whatever he learned in the off season hasn’t translated to better play on the field. He’s elite talent/physical tools, but it seems like he’s not concentrating or is thinking about running with the ball before he actually secures it. Still not giving up on him…dude has the potential to be dominant.

  50. Tom Edrington Says:

    Mike needs more tatoos…..

  51. Tampa Tony Says:

    Evans just isn’t a #1

  52. Young buc Says:

Dye stop running to early on the bomb any else c that

  53. ATrain Says:

    This team stopped Beckham.

    Stopped Atlanta.

But can’t put it together ….Who puts the pieces together.

Stop the excuses and call it what it is….Lovie isn’t Leading

We have players…Look at Humphries Brate several others stepping up

  54. Young buc Says:

    He judged the ball wrong

  55. Newbucsfan Says:

Free jameis! If he can survive this team then he can survive anything! Disguised!!

  56. LJ'sDaddy Says:

@Lovie is dog poo…I also felt Evans gave up on three or four balls. Did you see Brate lay out for his big play? I didn’t think Evans wanted to get dirty! Get hungry! Get mean! Refuse to lose! Bucs are soft. MOST PENALIZED TEAM IN THE LEAGUE! Lovie????????

  57. Tampa Tony Says:

They didn’t stop Atlanta. Falcons gave them the game with giveaways and then the Bucs needed OT to win

  58. OneLove Says:

Those drops were HUGE! I understand he made some big plays, but you CANT DROP those balls!!! That kind of sh!t just sucks the life out of our offensive momentum and get’s EVERYONE FRUSTRATED!!! FUUUUUUU!@%!@%!@!@!@^!@^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  59. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Mohamed Sanu (2016) ??

  60. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Mohamed Sanu & Anquan Boldin 2016 🙂

  61. unbelievable Says:

This game was so similar to the Houston game. Mike Evans let JW and the offense down big time.

I know he’s young, I know he’s coming off an injury, but let us all down today.

  62. PRBucFan Says:

5 drops per official espn stats and info

  63. orlbucfan Says:

Had this one on Bucs’ radio-broadcast ended at 7, but game was over by then. We need to get some guys healed and back on both sides of the ball. What’s with the Giants and their division? NFC East is more like NFC Least.

We’ll be 8-8 this season. This may be Panthers’ year-YUCK! See if the kitties can win a SB. I’m watching 3 things: 1–JW’s development, 2– Koetter finally throwing the ball to the RBs (please do more of it, coach), 3–Lavonte & Kwan getting on the same page as a defensive tandem. That day’s coming. We’ll beat the Cowjokes next week.

  64. Rob Says:

Should be 6 drops but officially 5. When RB’s fumble they get benched. I dont care if we’re thin at WR. He should have been benched a series. What a chump.
