C’mon, Ronde. Make The Call.

Yearning to grow

The Buccaneers’ high-priced nickel cornerback, a guy recently thrust into the position, would love to sit down and talk business with iconic Tampa Bay nickel Ronde Barber.

It’s hard to believe it hasn’t happened yet, considering Barber works for the Bucs in preseason and lives in Tampa.

That expensive nickel is Alterraun Vener, the demoted starting cornerback now emerging in his new role. Verner told Joe he likes the change.

“It’s been fun,” Verner said after beating the Cowboys. “I mean, so far it seems like since I moved we’ve been winning ball games. And we’ve been playing a little bit better. I feel like it’s helped the team. There are still things I gotta learn, things I’m still learning every week, but overall, I’m ok with it.

“I think nickel suits me because I can mix it up. I can blitz. I can do a lot of things like that, where at corner most times you’re just out there covering. So I think it fits my talents.”

Verner also said he’s waiting for the chance to dive into Barber’s brain and study all things nickel with him. “I’m looking forward to doing it when the opportunity presents itself. But we haven’t had the opportunity yet,” Verner said.

Joe’s hoping to be a matchmaker here. C’mon, Ronde, reach out. Invite Verner over for some barbecue and film study at your Tampa crib, or head to One Buc Palace for a Tuesday night with the Bucs cornerbacks. Or Verner, knock on Lovie’s door and ask him to get Barber on the phone.

There’s no more time to waste.

I think it’s time to give some props to this defense after constant criticism the first 6 weeks

They have held Dez Bryant and Odell Beckham in check after making Kendall freaking Wright look like the second coming of Fred Biletnikoff

Also, Ronde Barber is the greatest nickel corner in the history of the game. Period

IMO he’s the last Buccaneer from that great run that deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Dungy and Lynch don’t deserve it. If Jimmy Johnson isn’t in the HOF then Dungy doesn’t deserve it. If Steve Atwater isn’t in the HOF then Lynch doesn’t deserve it

But when you’re the greatest ever at anything in the NFL then you belong in the HOF. Ronde is the best ever at the inside corner, and IMO one of the best corners ever 10 yards and out from the line of scrimmage

    Ronde for HOF

Changing out both corners has been huge thus far… We’ll see if it continues? It’s like night and day… Now we can bring more, mix it up with different blitz packages.. Great move

It might be the shortest call in history, ” are you a hall of fame talent?? verner – no. They you cannot do what I did!!!!

Rhonde Barber should be in the Hall of Fame on the first Ballot!!!!!

  5. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Funny, because Verner said in the past that he refused to play nickle.

Amazing how things can change once he’s benched.

LOL! Real Talk! Going from the likes of Leonard Johnson to Aterraun Verner has been NIGHT AND DAY! Great move by the coaching staff and great execution by Verner!

Agree that Barber was better than Dungy or Lynch, and that Lynch was better than Dungy.

Hats off to Verner. He could be Lesean McCoy-like whining right now but instead is trying to do what is asked of him as best as he can. I respect that.

    cmurda I’m w you.

Now maybe this guy’s agent is saying smile and shut up otherwise u don’t get paid a lot of moola, but I think this is more than that.

You’re the man Verner, true team player. Overpaid. But solely interested in helping us win, love it.
