Austin Who?

Bucs fans have been slamming their pints of beer on the bar, spilling good brew and p!ssing off the hot chick next to them, all because Austin Seferian-Jenkins can’t get on the field.

To be fair, ASJ must have some major, major shoulder injury. He cannot get clearance from the team’s medical staff to play. Joe understands part of the reason is his shoulder is not yet strong enough to withstand the rigors of NFL violence.

That’s not ASJ’s fault, but it is Lovie Smith’s fault for letting the kid twist in the wind of public opinion by playing these Mickey Mouse high school gamesmanship stunts, using ASJ as some kind of cheap decoy to try to fool opposing teams.

In the meantime, Joe will go on record that the play of an Ivy League economics major is making folks forget ASJ. That would be Cameron Brate. The tight end from Harvard is quickly becoming one of the most reliable targets of America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.

Brate today had another solid game. He was targeted six times and caught five passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. For some reason, NFL.com does not have Brate listed among tight ends in yards per catch, but Brate’s 14.6 yards a reception would put him ninth overall for NFL tight ends this season.

While ASJ continues to try to nurse his shoulder back to playing health, Brate, who has three touchdowns in the past five games, is quickly making Bucs fans forget about last year’s Round 2 draft pick.

Asj who? Brate is better because he’s on the field

  2. Buccfan37 Says:

ASJ probably sees himself as too good a talent to be playing for the Bucs.

  3. Lou. Says:

Is there any real difference between the play of Brate and of Tim Wright?

  4. BackHomeBuc Says:

You won’t see my name much or at all but all this ASJ hate from you fans is ridiculous. Same dumb folk that called GMC a bust because he was hurt his first 2 years, now sing his praise because he is a pro bowler.Same fools who gave up on #22 because he was hurt the past 2 yrs, now you ride his jock talking about how great he is. We don’t know what we have or don’t have yet with ASJ until we can see him for a full year. He’s not a bust for lack of talent so shut up, even Gronk was hurt for a lot of his first few years.you same goons will be the ones on ASJ bandwagon when he’s healthy ang catching the ball.

    Brate can block.

  6. BucTrooper Says:

I am all for keeping Brate on the field when ASJ is healthy.

  7. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Half of life is just showing up. ASJ doestn’t even do that. Cut him and save the money. 84 is a keeper.

    @Buc Trooper:

ASJ healthy? Watch out for those flying pigs!

Also, ASJ can’t block, and drops the football……hunch here is he’s able to play but can’t beat out the guys in front of him….

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs should have placed ASJ on IR. Whether true or not, the perception of him not wanting to give it a go is way past question now. I think bucs staff thought he would be back by now. Lovie protects him quite well during press
conferences. But he’s disappointed as well. Brate is a keeper/

So Brate isnt even listed on nfl.com with his TE stats….what a bunch of bull! But I expect it. We never get any respect. Im surprised we had a little air time today by the talking heads of nfl network before the game.

I dont know, but I kinda like it he’s ignored right now….flying under the radar. Just so long as WE KEEP HIM! I swear, if we let him go, IM DONE!

  11. cometowin2 Says:

He’s becoming a fantasy sleeper on Draft Kings at the TE minimum. He’s much better then the 2nd TE’s you usually get at that price. 3 TDs in 5 weeks are more the you can expect from any TE not named Gronk.

  12. tnew Says:

Brate has better hands than Wright too. Doesn’t run as well. Ive been yelling for a new tight end and I am done with that. Now if we had some speed on the outside.

  13. Warren Says:

Couple of his catches were tough too..at least one was behind him. Really liking what Brate’s bringing, the least of which is a little consistency at TE

  14. BuccoBill Says:

They don’t have Brate in the voting for the pro bowl either. They still have ASJ.

  15. BlogTalkFootball Says:

We should get rid of Stocker who showed off his stone hands again yesterday!
