“This Is Important For Us, For Our Team Morale”

October 8th, 2015

NormanWords can be powerful, especially when they’re uttered by the franchise quarterback, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Young Jameis told Casey Phillips on Buccaneers.com that Sunday’s game against Jacksonville “is important for us, for our team morale, so we can go into this bye week on the up and ups.”

This really made Joe take pause. Is the Bucs’ morale suffering already?

Joe ran to the dictionary for a deeper look at the word “morale.”

a :  the mental and emotional condition (as of enthusiasm, confidence, or loyalty) of an individual or group with regard to the function or tasks at hand
b :  a sense of common purpose with respect to a group: the level of individual psychological well-being based on such factors as a sense of purpose and confidence in the future
Losing takes it’s toll, and the Bucs have done a lot of losing. Joe gets that.
Remember Lavonte David’s mental breakdown after the first snap against the Titans, and how he said it wasn’t just him? That was a telling sign of just how fragile this Bucs team is.
A loss to Jacksonville just can’t happen. It can’t. Jacksonville is a bad team riding an 11-game road losing streak, a team playing a back-to-back road game after an ugly overtime loss.
There is a lot on the line. A loss to the Jags (please, please win, Bucs) would not only be demoralizing, but something that should drive immediate changes.

Joe, please allow me to reiterate with emphasis: Please, Please, PRETTY PLEASE win, Bucs

  2. OklahomaBucFan Says:

I’m actually hoping we get blown out so that Lovie will get blown out…out of the building and into the basement where he should have stayed.

Dirk Koetter should be interim Head Coach and let Frazier run defense…for now.

  3. Tom Edrington Says:

Joe(s), please as Ybor City’s Quarterback to sign the following pledge:

“I, Jaboo, promise to NOT throw any pick-sixes in the Jacksonville game”

    Simple as that….

  4. Tom Edrington Says:

    please ask

  5. BigMacAttack Says:

Florio’s take: The Bucs haven’t won a home game in a long, long time. If they don’t win this one against Jacksonville, they may never win another home game again. Ever.

    Florio’s pick: Buccaneers 20, Jaguars 17.

Did you use a dictionary or Google?

  7. DB55 Says:

Sounds a lot like the tenn Titan “must win” articles. Acceptance, the fifth stage of grief, can be elusive.

  8. BrianBucs Says:

I am the only person on here that confidently predicted that the Bucs would beat the Saints.
Now I will do the same and predict the Bucs will beat the Jags on Sunday.
With some of the injuries the Jags have and plus not a lot of talent, the Bucs will win by more than one score.

  9. Cat Says:

Hopefully America’s QB doesn’t welcome the with a pick 6

  10. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Something has to give.
So I’m taking the Bucs money line this weekend.
Its a win win type situation.

We beat the Jags at home – Cha-Ching!!

We lose, pretty good chance Lovie hits the bricks 🙂

  11. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    My bad

  12. Ernest T Bass Says:

Part of the problem was Jameis coming in acting like it was his team. If you have a coach like Bill Parcells or a player like Ray Lewis, Winston would have been put in his place. Lovie or Gerald will not speak up. Guys play half speed, because they are turned off by someone who predicted greatness, that hasn’t earned anything yet.

  13. Clodhopper Says:

GMC is not a leader. That’s the problem. He’s had time and time and time again to get this out of funk after funk but this teams morale and mettle is the weakest in the league. Jameis needs to be the foreman and GMC needs to be the laborer and be quiet and do what he’s told. As far as I’m concerned rookies Jameis and Kwon are better leaders than him.

  14. Phil Says:

I would think the morale of a Lovie coached team would be very low. Has anyone ever seen Lovie get a player fired up? I haven’t.

  15. BlogTalkFootball Says:

Jags are also riding a 4 game winning streak against the Bucs… So the advantage may be on the visiting team.

  16. Tim S Says:

Clodhopper – I couldn’t agree more. Current leadership on this team has failed miserably. It’s time for new leaders and the two rookies you named fit the bill perfectly. There are plenty of McCoy apologists on here though that will adamantly deny he has anything to do with our inept defense.

Dude you say some of the most off the wall shyte about our”rookie” QB all the time.

Joe did you get that impression of Jameis when he came to Tampa? From what I was reading it was the exact opposite. He was humble, and acknowledged he was a only rookie and there were other players on this team that were great leaders already on and on all summer long.

Why do people just make stuff up instead of just keeping it plain and simple? Just come right out and say it. I’m rooting against JW because I effin HATE him or I wanted Mariota and I know I’m right.

    See how hard that was?

  18. rayjay1122 Says:

The players morale? How about the morale of the fan base? The players have the power to change their situation. All fans can do is either continue to suffer or pull the plug. Player morale, whatever!!!

  19. mike Johnson Says:

Lookayear fellow Buc fans…..If we do not win against Jville, I am predicting a lost of another 25% of our fan base. What am I sayin? This is..all hands on deck..Mayday for Mayham….Going all out like Lawrence Taylor References…..”Wild Dogs”. A Jville defeat signifies we are the worst team in the NFl. No..not Detroit. I see us running the ball a lot more and limiting Winstons throws in the 1st half. Lets see if our Bucs can/will..Man Up!!

  20. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m predicting a Bucs win, and Jameis launching it downfield from the start. Let’s take the out-route on 3rd down out of the playbook for a while. If they run it, at least run it with Evans or VJax.

  21. bucsbedabest Says:

If the Bucs win or lose at home, this weekend, it will depend on how well Winston plays. He can not turn the ball over. No INT, no fumbles. This will be one of his best chances to throw the ball at the Jag CB. This game could define which QB Jameis is, or is not? On defense, the Bucs have to stop TJ Yeldon, who broke out last week with 105 yards on 22 carries. The Jags have a very good run blocking OL. The most difficult assignment will be for Mike Jenkins to cover Allen Hurns. Blake Bortles has only given up 3 INT this year and nearly threw for 300 yards last week. With the Skins, Falcons, Giants and Cowboys up next for Tampa, they may not win another game this year. So yes, this is a must win game, the Super Bowl if you like, because if they lose again, at home, to the Jags, moral won’t be the issue. Directions to the unemployment office will be…

  22. Johnny Dejay Says:

The Bucs absolutely COULD lose to Jax this weekend, the Jags have a tough run defense and a more seasoned young and talented QB.

The Bucs SHOULD win the game if the turnover margin is equal or in TB’s favor; however, Winston has the power to give this game away with his sloppy play and poor decision making.

Let’s not forget that Jax sees this as an opportunity to get a win, too. They will be amped up for this game and the Bucs will get the Jags’ best effort.

The team whose young QB plays the best will get the win, and that’s a bit scary with Tallahassee’s QB behind center for the Bucs.

  23. James Marlow Says:

JOE’s QB not America’s! And right now hardly the Bucs QB. If he has issues this week, we need to play Glennon, like we should have game 1. Winston should have a clipboard in year 1. This would have been a better decision instead of rushing JW’s development, or lack thereof.
