Evans Not Expecting Double Teams

October 29th, 2015

Evans2

With Vincent Jackson out, one would think Mike Evans is sure to see a steady diet of double teams.

Not so, Evans told Joe this week.

Evans said his film study shows the Falcons like to play straight up and they rarely double receivers.

Joe asked Evans if the Bucs might double up Evans in practice, in effort to have him practice against it — for example, have a safety committed to his side. No, Evans said.

Joe listned to Dan Quinn’s news conference in Atlanta yesterday, and Quinn noted how his cornerbacks practicing against a big physical receiver like Julio Jones (remember Falcons’ starters, unlike the Bucs’, actually practice live against each other) make them much better equipped to deal with Evans.

After Evans on the depth chart will be Russell Shepard and Donteea Dye on Sunday. You can count their combined career catches on two hands — with fingers to spare.

It’s hard to believe the Bucs won’t need a superstar effort from Evans to beat the Falcons, unless Doug Martin goes all 2012 Raiders.

ATL will play a lot of single high..Donte or russel will get a chance to stretch the field an go up top, one of them will have reception of 60 plus this week

  2. Tampa Tony Says:

Dude is unprepared then, just like most of Lovie’s Losers

Safety will shade towards mike all day,run a deep cross with mike the safety will jump an jamies will hit one of them deep..mark my words.. Oh our defense will hold ATL under 30 lol I kno that’s not saying much but damnit that’s an improvement.. sigh

    I wouldn’t bet on it.

  5. Tom Edrington Says:

Think again Mike, just because Lovie would single cover doesn’t mean a real defensive coach is gonna let you run all over the place in single coverage…

  6. Brett Says:

Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Bucs not prepared again. Thanks, Lee and Steve, for pointing this out b4 the game. it will be a nice reference point after the impending doom.

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo was double-teamed once…..while table dancing…..Pablo had 87 on one side and the Realist on the other……the Realist isn’t a very generous tipper. Pablo thinks that if Evans is double-teamed……Jeff Garcia……Pablo means Jameis….will connect with ASJ all day. ASJ….Pablo’s favorite TE since Aaron Hernandez”

I shudder to think of what Freeman does to this Defense! Over/ under- 200 yds?

I shudder to think of what will happen do our defense if we stop Freeman…..

400 passing yards and 5 TDs for Ryan…..

I really want to have faith that we at least put up a good fight this week, but I just don’t see it. Atlanta has been embarrassed the last 2 weeks, they are going to rebound sooner or later with a monstrous offensive game.

We are always the team that seems to cure what ales opposing teams.

I agree. ATL doesn’t double. They are more inclined, or at least should be, to put 8 in the box and focus on the Dougenator.
    It’s what I would do.

The thing the Bucs have going further is JW has hit a ton of receivers. He will pass it all over, even though he has locked in on Evans recently, but I think that was by design to get him going, and it worked.

No way we win this one. The only question is how bad the score will be. I’ll be happy if it’s still a game at halftime. IF JW plays like he has the last 2 weeks, we may stay close. If not, turn out the lights, the party’s over!
