The sweet smell of a home victory! It’s been nearly 23 months!

It wasn’t always pretty against the shaky Jaguars, but Joe couldn’t give a damn.

That warm, unusual October feeling in your groin? It’s something called hope.

George Johnson shook the apparent curse of Michael Johnson and came up with the big strip of the day, which was recovered for a game-winning touchdown by Jacquies Smith late in the third quarter.

New defensive lineman Howard Jones with two sacks! Who?

Doug Martin with an impressive 123-yard day and three touchdowns.

Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, settled in for an efficient performance, 13-of-19 for 209 yards and a touchdown. No interceptions.

And Lavonte David awakened from his coma with eight solo tackles and a sack.

Then there was that glorious tonic known as the Jaguars, now losers of 12 consecutive road games.

Next stop, the Washington Redskins after the bye week.

Savor it, Bucs fans.

Stick with Joe for so much more this afternoon from the happy Buccaneers locker room.

JOE!! I expect to see a video of you doing cartwheels 🙂

A win is a win. But context please, it was a very bad team we beat and they still made the defense look very bad at times. Team is still a long ways away from competing for the playoffs. Lovie is still not good enough but hopefully the next coach is.

  3. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

No context. Great scheme by our special teams coordinator! Bucs win! Well coached and well played game. Equaled our win total last year by week five. THAT’s improvement.

  4. DB55 Says:

Good win! See what happens when your captain steps up in crunch time. Wins! That’s what happens. Big ups to Martin for a HUGE game and to me smith for his first home win as TB HC!

  5. WalkdaPlank Says:

Finally! A home win! Doesn’t save Lovie’s job but you certainly can’t complain much!

So much for “Doug Martin being Doug Martin” right Joe? 😉

  6. Mo_Downs Says:

    Great T.E.A.M. win..!!

    LOVIE BALL…ALL THE WAY..!!!

    GO Bucs…!!!

  7. Tampa Tony Says:

Can celebrate a win for two weeks!!!!

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Now all you Mccoy haters can’t say sh!t about him not getting any sacks late.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No turnovers…..broke a very long streak of them……congrats Bucs!!!

  10. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Meanwhile, Mariota is 1 – 4. We 2 – 3 xP

  11. DB55 Says:

    @hb

See what happens when your captain steps up in crunch time. Wins!

  12. Oahubuc Says:

Great to see a home win. Might want to manage those expectations, though. We only beat a bad team by one score, and were unable to contain them in the 2-minute in both halves. They’re using Doug Martin like James Wilder and he’s not near as resilient. We got wins like this back then, too, and that’s just the beginning of the commonalities between this regime and Culverhouse/Perkins.

  13. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

The no wins at home streak is busted!

Martin is on pace for 1296 yards this season…averaging 81 rushing yards per game! Had 158 total yards this game!

Gerald McCoy is averaging 1 sack per game, which puts him on pace for 16 sacks this season!

Charles Sims had 136 total yards this game!

All of our receivers averaged more than 12 yards per catch today!

Connor Barth made all three field goals AND put kickoffs deep into the end zone every time!

Rainey almost took one to the house on a return!

Lots of positives to build off of in this game.

The offense is getting better and better. Defense was blah in my opinion, but that’s because it still needs to be addressed. Building hte offense first was the smart move.

  14. Buccfan37 Says:

Finally, a home win. Game balls a plenty.

  15. Trubucfan22 Says:

Buc football has NEVER been pretty. But the team did what it needed to win. All 3 phases performed well enough to win. And thats all that matters. Winston did enough to manage the game and put us in scoring position. And if anyone had doubts, doug martin is back!

  16. Phred Says:

Yes. But have they ever won a home game when it’s less than 42 degrees?

  17. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Yeah, the McCoy criticism is really silly. He’s the best DT in football.

  18. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

This win shut the Mariota dick riders up for a while

  19. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @Oahubuc

OR…you could try being happy with a win. A win that builds confidence. A win that broke a streak.

It doesn’t matter if the JAGs are a good team…we were a worse team. We were last in the league last year!!! So it is still improvement.

Not to mention, the Jags always seem to beat us in recent years. That’s another streak that busted today!

  20. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Oh, and there really is no comparison between Jaboo and DinkandDunkiota. The Titans’ coaching staff is really trying hard to protect him. They did not let him throw the ball downfield today. The one time they did he was picked off. We are going to be very glad next year that Koetter stretched Jameis this year.

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Phred Says
“Yes. But have they ever won a home game when it’s less than 42 degrees?”

Not a lot of opportunities for that in Tampa, lol.

  22. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Hallelujah…the home win drought is over! Great job by Doug…the man looks like he’s playing for a contract. I’m still not sure if I can sleep easy with the defense giving up some big plays (to the Jags!), but it was nice to see a good game plan on offense get executed well by the players.

  23. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I said 2 wins within the first half of the season, so they’ve met my expectations. From here on in, everything else is bonus 🙂

  24. Brent Says:

Great job by offense. Simms showing up. Defense still looks real shaky.

  25. rayjay1122 Says:

A win is a win. I will certainly take it. If we can use the extra week to get ready for our next game maybe we can get back to .500.

  26. tmaxcon Says:

Nice win for Jameis and offense. Defense still blows. Thanks for the gift on the fumble / td jville.

Keeping lovie around just ensures a slow painful death with a roster full of injury prone heartless choirboys and another decade without the possibility of a playoff win.

  27. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @tmaxcon

How many draft picks has Lovie blown on defense here? NONE.

And that fumble was not a gift…it was due to defensive pressure.

Keeping Lovie around ensures a good defensive draft next year. Replacing him ensures another delay in developing the team.

How many times do we have to fire coaches too soon before some people see the pattern that is causing the losing?

  28. Tim S. Says:

A win feels better than a loss any day of the week but I agree with those tempering their enthusiasm. This was a very bad Jags team and it was hard to watch at times.

Nice to finally get a win at home? Absolutely. A signature win signaling the beginning of greatness? Absolutely not.

Put a few convincing wins together and I’ll start believing. Until then I’ll remain cautiously optimistic. Go Bucs.

  29. Big Irish Says:

    BYE WEEK……HEAL UP
    DC……BEAT THE DEAD SKINS
    WE’RE 3-3

  30. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Tim S.

You don’t need to believe we’re suddenly great.

You just need to believe that the team is moving in the right direction…and know that eventually, that means greatness will come.

Until then? We wait. We look for small improvements in each player. Each position. And then we look for enough of those improvements to join together a little more often. And then we look for the greatness to develop.

    One step at a time.

So be optimistic over this win. It broke a losing streak. We had improvements all over. GMC is on pace for 16 sacks. Martin is on pace for nearly 1300 yards rushing. Sims is on pace for nearly 900 yards total.

Finally winning a home game can trigger a growth spurt. Losing them all, it becomes hard to have confidence.

    That’s what this win was.

    A confidence builder.

What about Winston’s 122 passer rating?

  32. Clint Says:

Americas QB just dumped the ball off all day. Wish they let him play the position.

  33. bucsbedabest Says:

Great win for Buccaneer fans everywhere. Great win for Lovie Smith and his coaching staff. Great win for the players. See what happens when you don’t turn the ball over. Koetter kept Winston under 20 attempts. Very impressed with the running game. Both Martin and Sims. Great job by the OL with my hats off to Kevin Pamphile who played a new position and did not miss a beat. Even though the defense struggled, there were signs of promise. Where in the name of Captain Bligh did Howard Jones come from? Two sacks? George Johnson made his presence felt and GMC came on strong with 2 minutes to go. Lavonte David made a bunch of tackles and had a sack. The problem with the defense is the CB. Jenkins and Jennings are just past there prime and it shows. With both Keith Tandy and Chris Conte leaving the game with injuries the Safety position is very thin. Enjoy the bye week break!

  34. MadMax Says:

Good job Bucs……continue and prove its not a fluke…(doubtful)

2 wins last year got us a 1st overall….whatever it takes to get Bosa or Taylor! No way we’re about to make some kind of playoff run now…. @myhopesneverdashed

“That warm, unusual October feeling in your groin? It’s something called hope.”

joe that is called an erection, not hope.

  36. BucFanInTokyo Says:

The Bucs played well in all 3 phases of the game. Was it always perfect? No… That does not matter though. A solid defensive push in the 2nd half and take aways when needed. Being opportunistic is what winners do.

The running backs played great. Running, catching, and not going down on the first hit. That Jag defender the Dougernaut juked in the open field is still in Ray J looking for his jock.

Winston did what the great QBs are supposed to do. Put your team in a position to win.

I was up at 2 AM (Tokyo) to watch this one. Really glad I did. Go Bucs!!!
